Magic was not something a lot of parents tried to hide from their children, especially not those who had come from a pure blood line like Adrian’s mother had, but it was always a subject in the Jamison household that had to be touched upon carefully. His mother had a complicated past, she had grown up in the heart of the magical world, in a blossoming pure blood family with ties in both Quidditch and potion brewing, she was a happy child and going into her school years was quite a talented young witch, someone who had her whole life ahead of her. She was barely out of school when the Second Wizarding War struck and her family took a firm stance against Voldemort, they didn’t believe in the world he was trying to create and through their business helped supply resistance groups with magical supplies. She was in her early twenties when her father was tortured and killed by Death Eaters in the war, she was very close to her father and was devastated by the situation, and when the war was over she left the magical world behind. She met her future wife not long after and once they were married and settled the two of them brought Adrian into their lives, while she was happy and was starting to feel safe again it was a long time before she could talk about magic at all. Growing up it was something Adrian knew not to ask about, although not his biological parents his mothers were both very welcoming and doting when he came to live them- only a toddler at the time with very few memories of his own parents- and while they were open with him about his adoption there was always an unspoken rule about magic as a topic of conversation. It wasn’t always easy, Adrian learnt with time that if he didn’t mention the subject his mother would occasionally tell him something about the world she grew up in and he would be undoubtedly amazed by whatever she told him, but if he asked or pressed for more when she wasn’t ready she’d grow upset and avoid the subject, tell him that world wasn’t safe and it was better for all of them they stayed away. It was a part of his childhood he wasn’t always certain about, but even so Adrian was happy, he felt incredibly lucky to be adopted by two wonderful women who loved him dearly and provided him with a stable, supportive home environment. It was even alright that they couldn’t openly talk about magic, he showed no signs of being magical anyway and he was happy at his muggle school, he had a lot of dreams when he was growing up and all of them required a good education. He liked school, he liked classes and he had always been good at making friends, life for Adrian was as pleasant as any child would want their childhood to be. He was happy, looked after and supported, he couldn’t ask for anything more.
When adopting Adrian there was no signs of magical history from his biological parents, it was part of the reason his pure blood mother had been so eager to adopt him, less chance of having a magical child if there were no signs of it in their recent history, so when his letter from Hogwarts arrived it stirred mixed feelings within the family. Adrian, of course, was rather ecstatic to think he had magic too and would have the opportunity to be part of the world he’d only heard brief snippets about but loved all the same. He wanted to celebrate, he was filled with excitement, but he saw the look on his mother’s face when his invitation arrived. That night he lay awake in bed and listened to his mother sob downstairs, complain to her wife that none of this was fair, that she’d worked so hard to keep him safe and magic had found it’s way to him anyway, and Adrian was slightly confused. Magic had always been a touchy subject in their family, yes, but it was also a subject they barely talked about and so the brief and few stories his mother had told him were all positive. All about her childhood, her days at school, parts of her life before the war and before his grandfather- who Adrian still didn’t know had been killed- had died in such a way to scare her so much. She tried to convince Adrian to stay at home, to go to a muggle high school and continue his life the way it had been so far, but Adrian didn’t want that and in the end it was a majority vote that allowed him to attend the school. The weeks leading up to Hogwarts only had one mother’s approval and involvement, it fell to his muggle mother to take him to Diagon Alley and prepare him for his education at Hogwarts, but when it came time for him to actually leave both parents took him to the train station and saw him off- even though the idea scared her, his mother didn’t want him to leave without her being there. Upon arriving, Adrian was sorted into Slytherin house and he was rather impressed when he sat down among his housemates. They were a welcoming enough bunch, all introducing themselves and cheering each time another student was added to their ranks. He was excited to start his life at Hogwarts, he settled in quickly to his new environment and was eager to make friends and start working, things were going so well and he really didn’t understand what his mother was so worried about. Only through years of learning magic and about magical history did Adrian begin to understand what scared his mother so much about the magical world, it was a beautiful and enchanting place but magic was dangerous and in the wrong hands it could be lethal. He came to know of the terrible things that had once taken place, and with this knowledge he grew determined to show his mother the magical world had changed- it was becoming a better place and one they could both be proud to be a part of.
Flirty, confident and ambitious, Adrian is well-suited to Slytherin house. He’s undeniably a bit of a charmer, he’s bright and funny, with a warm energy about him that people of all ages and houses are drawn to. Perhaps the best thing about Adrian is his complete joy in being part of the magical world, most students over time grow rather used to Hogwarts and can start to take all they can do for granted, but Adrian seems as excited and amazed by magic today as he always has been. He has a somewhat cheeky attitude, he’s always the one answering Professors back and trying to flirt his way out of trouble, but somehow he makes the whole thing endearing- that may be because in reality he really does care and really does try hard as a student to be a good and safe wizard. One thing about Adrian that most people don’t suspect is his temper, he actually takes after his mother quite a lot, if people press him on matters he doesn’t like to talk about or wind him up he gets easily irritated, he can be childish and choose to ignore people and hold grudges or he’ll snap at people and then regret it later. His heart is in the right place, he really wants to prove to his mother that things in the magical world have changed and because of that he wants to be a safe and great wizard, to be able to show her that he’s living proof the magical world is getting better, but it’s an on-going struggle and one that can wear him down- not that he’d ever show it.
Adrian accidentally sent home a howler in 3rd year after Slytherin won the House Cup. “MOM! MA! WE WON THE HOUSE CUP!! YES! SLYTHERIN WON THE HOUSE CUP! OI, MATE SHUT IT! I’M SENDING HOME AN OWL!” -muffled voice in the background- “WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS HOWLER PAPER? OH SH–” and received one in return. “WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE! Oh, but honey, we’re so proud. See you at home!”
Adrian has a pet puffskein that torments his roommates when they’re sleeping.
Adrian once tried enchanting a pocket watch however things went terribly wrong when the watch started to become sentient. It’s a pain in the ass but it gets Adrian to class on time. He’s tried enchanting other muggle objects with pretty much the same result.
