No Title Here
May, 13 2018 Cloudy dawn here in Paris. Insomnia. Contrasting feelings. Last night another attack. One innocent died, other people severely injured. In the meantime, we AA are living the surreal situation I’ve only read about on magazines. I can’t write details right now, but we basically made it. The first step, I mean. Rock is about rebellion. Me and Estelle and thousands guys are the living proof. So why not embracing a guitar or a couple of sticks and screaming into a microphone instead of fucking killing people? Yesterday’s killer was 20. Why no one told him he could have a rock band to unleash his anger?
Take 1
May, 7 2018 This afternoon we recorded our 7th song, a very slow, maybe out-of-the-genre thing but we liked it, so why not. My usual super-beloved, super-dry Roland CR-78 samples appearing after a minute or so, my silly-sounding Californian-customized Chinese guitar playing single notes, a deep long NI Massive synth bass. Our music. Well, we met at 3pm as usual, had some chat about yesterday’s exciting new contacts we had then, around 4.15pm I turned our 66€ german-chinese condenser mike on. At 4.50 we were listening to a good song. Completed. Take 1, basically. And it’s no news. I have to get used to it. I’ve never worked with such a well prepared, always in time, perfectly tuned (even here, in this apt, in front of a 2 meters high window), kind and wise musician like Estelle in all my life. Estelle bless us all.
Bandcamp or Democracy on the Internet
Sunday, May, 6 2018 After a week we have published our Demotape I on Bandcamp, we went top10 (!) and today we are #8 (!!). If you put a video on YouTube no one finds you (because google search algorithms are heavily driven by paying people, companies, famous idiots, etc), and you do zero views forever (more or less like the South Park kid in the “You Have Zero Friends” episode), if you say something - even public - on Facebook that is seen just by your friends (and they already know your music) because of the huge background noise out there. The same on SoundCloud: no one sees you even if you put online your tracks 10 seconds ago. But if you publish a demo on Bandcamp, it works. Because Bandcamp hashtags work. Because if you publish something, people find you. You appear on top of the new arrivals page for some hours and people see there’s a new coldwave thing out. And, if your music is good for them, they support you. It’s amazing, in a world ruled by idiots making selfies even if they are already over-exposed by media and making millions only because they’re dumb like their “audience”. I don’t know Bandcamp guys and we are not sponsored by them, but I learned these days Bandcamp works a lot for unsigned bands. And that’s has a name: Democracy.
Radios!
Friday 4, May 2018 Our first week online has been very exciting! Four radios in Europe and USA played our songs. I’ve always loved the radio and I still today listen to the news or music or people talking live, in real time, because I am a fan of real life.
April, 27 2018 After Absence: Estelle, singer/guitarist, and me, Adriano. First photo shooting courtesy by our remote control :) Basically a zero budget official image: Canon camera from a friend, an empty art gallery from another friend. Uhm... no, yeah, the tripod is mine. 23€.
Ok, let’s start.
May, 1st, 2018 Exactly nine days ago my new band, After Absence, appeared online. We play that very alternative genre called Darkwave, and we live in Paris. It was a very exciting week, the dream of any musician. I will post here what I do and what the band is doing in form of a diary. If there’s anybody out there.
