battle over home (default) screen
-FB has kicked off the mobile version of the default page battle -0.0 : default program on desktop (e.g. word processor, browser, etc. -1.0 : default browser page (e.g. google, yahoo, etc.) -2.0 : default home screen (i.e. custom launcher turned FB app) .expected impact -home screen to act as (intermediary) interface between user and the mobile app environment -apps and the whole app ecosystem may well be moved one level back or further away from the user -apps will fight to be integrated into the most used default home screen -platforms (i.e. android, ios, ubuntu, etc.) to be less important, as home screens can be created for each platform (that is if all platforms allow for that to happen) -most mobile ad revenue to pass through home screens (that is if a viable mobile ad proposition is found ever) .to consider -will google allow others to create such a threat on google’s own platform -> transition to a more controlled partially closed platform? -what service really provides most value to the user on mobile home screens? FB is trying to force its service on to the user, but are users ok with that? -can default home screens shift the power balance within the current mobile content vs. app vs. platform vs. device manufacture ecosystem (value network)? .what to do -get into the mix: create your default home screen, you might become the mobile version of google -open source project proposition: customizable default home screen launcher -as always: find a way to monetize
