your very own pokémon legend is about to unfold! a world of dreams and adventures with pokémon awaits! — seoul, south korea, present day. current event!
In case you haven't been able to tell, yet (and i'm sorry for clogging the dash) I'm now the sole admin
That being said, I'm still going to do my best to keep this place alive! I'll do my best to plan a March event in a timely manner (so it's not late again), but please bear with me!
I know this is a little late for Valentine's Day, but February in Adventurous is dedicated to the Sweet Heart Festival! This festival includes battle tournaments with first evolutions, contests with cute Pokemon, and -- most important -- the Sweet Heart Cooking Competition! This year's Sweet Heart Event will revolve mainly around the cooking competition! NOTE: this event will technically take place as a flashback, since I've been horrible about arranging this.
Tag: #advxsweetheart
Representative Legendary: Mesprit
Objective: pair up with someone else and cook the best dessert you can!
Judges: Lee "Rose" Hayi, ???, ???
Winners: first place (15 heart scales), second place (10 heart scales), third place (5 heat scales), best creative use of chocolate (3 heart scales), most hearts on one dessert (3 heart scales), best tribute to Mesprit (3 heart scales)
Sign-up Ends: 2/28/15
These pair-ups will be done with the use of a random number generator! To sign up for the Sweet Heart Event, please send a message to the main and I'll get you down on the list! Please note, if we don't get enough sign-ups, the event might be cancelled. ;; Also, if you'd like to volunteer your muse as another judge instead, feel free! Please just specify that when you message the main! To note here, I'll only be accepting two more judges, bringing it up to three judges in total!
in adventurous, heart scales are earned through events and traded for prizes! the top three winners of each event will be awarded with heart scales along with the members who win an honorable mention! these heart scales can then be turned in once a month for items, tickets, and even pokemon! make sure you save up your heart scales if you want to get the best prizes!
this being said, i would like to ask that everyone add a heart scale counter to their description. it doesn't have to be fancy, it's just to make sure that you and i can remember how many heart scales you have! but don't think you can fudge it, either, to some extent, i'll be keeping my own list!
please note that italic links denote voluntary withdrawals, while unstyled names have been removed due to inactivity (two weeks or longer)!
let us know if there are any mistakes. messages will be sent to all cleared muses with instructions on how to rejoin!
THE FOLLOWING FACE CLAIMS SHOULD NOW BE UNFOLLOWED AND ARE NOW FREE TO BE ROLEPLAYED:
Hello. I hope that you are feeling well? I am new to tumblr and that is why i am wondering how to roleplay on tumblr? Or how you are doing it? Can you help me please?
I’m doing well, yes thank you, cutie.
Ah, I remember my first days rping on Tumblr. /gets nostalgic;
As for how to roleplay on Tumblr, the writing aspect is literally the same as if you would rp anywhere else! Although I do believe it’s far more wordy than twitter or facebook rp (anyone who’s done those like to weigh in? I have not). I think if I had to compare it to another type of rp, it’s most like forum rp, except without the fancy layouts some sites use (instead that’s on your blog).
While it’s sometimes not easy to get used to how tumblr works, I’m sure everyone here would be more than willing to be patient and to help answer any questions you might have! For now, however, I’m gonna try to give you as much of a rundown as I can! If I miss anything, feel free to ask off anon here or to advxhayi or to add me on aim at hayi.rose and I’ll definitely answer any questions you have!
This goes for our future members as well! And you’re also welcome to contact admin mars at any of (his/her????) rp accounts and on aim.
Read more for long explanations and shizz~
The rping itself!!!
Like I said, it’s a lot like forum rp. You plot with someone or start a random meeting (this is less like forum rp since that relies heavily on plotting out what you want to do). The biggest difference between forum rp and tumblr rp is that you stick to one faceclaim (unless you’re a multimuse blog in which case you have numerous faceclaims you stick to, but that’s mostly in open rp). The threads (interactions) you write can be absolutely anything you can come up with with another person, but they have to fit the scope of our rp! AUs are totally allowed, but we’d ask that they be limited and if they were Pokemon oriented, that would be totally allowed! AU threads (or alternate universe threads) are basically threads that take place somewhere else other than the scope of adventurous (or whatever rp you happen to be in). In the case of adv, that could consist of your muses being Pokemon, your muses existing in one of the game realms rather than Seoul, your muses meeting in a different circumstance with different personalities, or anything you can come up with that lies outside the “canon” scope of adv!
For the threading itself, you’ll be using text posts! This is a little more confusing since Tumblr’s recent update, but since you’re new to tumblr, it shouldn’t be all too confusing for you! At the top of your dashboard (the collection of posts from the people you follow) there’s a bar with little symbols and post types. Text is the first type! Just click on that if you’re starting off a new thread! The title goes in the top section, the thread itself goes in the middle, and the tags go in the bottom. I’ll explain tags more next! When it comes to writing, the people here at adv tend to prefer para (Hayi made her way over to N and tapped him on the shoulder. “Excuse me, could you point me to the nearest Pokemon center?”) or script ( (/she made her way over to him and tapped his shoulder.’) could you point me towards a pokemon center? ) Style normally depends on where you/your rp partner (the person you’re writing with) are most comfortable and sometimes what type of thread it is. If it’s a really detailed thread, para is more likely whereas if it’s more of a short thread, script more than suffices. How you format it, how much you write, etc depends on personal preference.
For formatting, I mean:
regular text vs small text
spaces before your paragraphs
(/actions.’) vs *actions* vs -actions- vs [-actions’] vs (&*={actions}\;-] ((i think you get the point, yes?)
some words in italics (like thoughts or words that are foreign in relation to the language you’re typing in like umma or unnie) vs some words in bold like speech in general or speech where your character is speaking a language other than the default (which in the case of adv is korean)
blockquoting text like text messages, tiny flashbacks, npc speech, etc
Now, for tags! Tags are basically how you want someone/yourself to be able to find things on your blog later. If you look at my tags page (although mine doubles as a navigation page—) I tag images of my muse, images of my pokemon, info about my pokemon, etc. most people have a general tag for their threads (mine is just .th) and messages (mine is .em). These are totally based on preference and some people tag threads and messages the same! (having threads and messages tagged .th in my case). When it comes to threads themselves, people normally tag the url of the person they’re rping with (if I were rping with N, I’d tag advxn along with .th) along with something indicating which thread it is so their partner can find that thread seperately or so others can go back and read if they’d like (say N and I have a thread named “contest catastrophe”, my tags would end up being “advxn” “.th” and “.th*contestcatastrophe”). As for how you tag these, it’s totally up to you and personal preference or what you think looks nice! I will advise that you do not use tags with dashes since tumblr freaks out, since it reads spaces as dashes, and can’t find your posts. If you’d like some ideas, feel free to check out any of our members tags by going on their blogs and scrolling through their posts to look at their tags! When shown, all tags are preceded by #, much like twitter, but unlike twitter, you don’t have to add the # and you can include spaces in your tags!
When it comes to sending/receiving messages, make sure your inbox is open! (this’ll be found under the settings (gear) under the little drop down menu by the little icon that looks like a face at the top of the dashboard) I’d also recommend while you’re in there that you open your submit and allow replies, at least for the people you follow! When it comes to sending messages, you have to navigate to the other person’s inbox. This can be easily done by typing their url in the navigation bar on your browser and adding /ask to the end (ex: http://advxn.tumblr.com/ask) or hovering over their icon on the dashboard, clicking the drop down arrow, and clicking “ask a question”. In most cases, ooc messages are indicated by adding “ooc:” to the beginning or surrounding it in brackets “(( ))/[[ ]]/{{ }}”. Again, this is mostly personal preference, but I would make sure you find a way to specify you’re approaching ooc versus ic! When it comes to answering asks, there’s an envelope icon at the top of your dashboard. Normally, Tumblr is really good about telling you if you have a message, but sometimes it forgets to tell you, so just make sure to check it periodically when you log in! There are options to answer it publicly (most ic asks) and privately (ooc asks). If you have XKit installed (10/10 would recommend, but i can explain this more in private if you’d like) or if you hit alt (option on mac) you can pull up options to save an ask as a draft or to queue it. This is great if you want to edit the html of an ask (like if you want small text with the newest tumblr update) or if you don’t have time to fully answer it right away/you plan to answer it but you want to make sure you see it with your other replies or if you answer an ask but don’t want it to post right away!
Before talking about drafts, lemme go over reblogging!
When it comes to later replies in a thread or your first reply (in the case that the other person writes the starter) you need to reblog the post! On the dashboard (or on the blog) you’ll see a little symbol that looks like a square of arrows (on the blog it usually says reblog) if you click that, it’ll bring up the post to add your reply to it! If it formats as a link (aka has that ugly green bar at the top and you can only see part of the reply) move to the top of the reply and click the little box that says “link” and change it to text! now, you want to erase your last reply (you don’t have to do it right away, just make sure you do it before you post) by highlighting from the end of your reply to the top of the text box (make sure you don’t erase their url tho!) and hitting backspace. Now, you can type your reply, tag it, and post just like you normally would! Reblogging is also useful for photos when it comes to faceclaim visuals, etc.
As for drafts, sometimes you don’t have muse for a thread/you’re busy/you’re lazy etc. But wait, you don’t wanna forget about that reply you need to do! No problem! Just hit the reblog button but instead of typing your reply right away and posting it, just click the little drop down by “post now” (on the bottom of the post editor) and click “save as draft” then click the “save now” button and you’re good to go! there will be a link under your activity bar to show the drafts you have saved!
Alternatively, you could just like the reply (click the lil heart) and find it easily later!
When it comes to your activity bar, Tumblr shows you all the likes, follows, replies, asks, answers, reblogs you’ve gotten within the past forever! sometimes it layers them together (like if you’re followed by 13 people within the past hour) which can be annoying, but you can just click “see more” to see the rest! But be warned, it’s not always accurate! sometimes, to be safe, you’ll want to go through your threads and click the notes section to see if your partner has replied or not! Never a bad idea to do every month or so just to make sure you didn’t accidentally keep that person waiting!
Phew, I think that’s all you need to know for now, but if you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask!
