She nodded, looking around the stone that inhabited all of the walls. “It does seem as if its a dungeon, doesn’t it?”

He smiled, softly. “I have a tendency to disappear…and it is a grant castle…” he joked, only lightly for he did not wish for her to think that he does not take the situation in her home country seriously; it was not his home and he had no blood ties, but he felt obligated to them, for they had accepted him right away, welcomed him in their court and throne as their King and ruler, they never once doubted him because of what he was, a bastard son, but rather judged his abilities as a King.

“Let you go back alone?” His eyes widened slightly, eyebrows drawing in together. It was too risky, he knew that, and even if the love he held for her was not romantic, he cared about her and her well-being. “Surely, you understand the risks…” He mused, sat down and allowed his gaze to drift over the bushes of flowers, the fountain that had long ago frozen.

She bit her lip and could only look to him. Did he make her out to be a fool? Did he not think she heard the gossip of her maids and her own ladies? She was more than offended he thought her to be that ill educated. She just let out a rather annoyed sigh and closed her eyes. Country before all, she reminded herself. And her country needed her now. She would more than rise to the occasion.

“I do but right now Hungary needs me, their Queen. And maybe for your sake I’ll die on the journey and you will be free of me,” Dorothea said, keeping her eyes level with him.

It leaves him confused and somewhat dazed as to what is he supposed to do about what happened; he reread the letters in his hands, trying to understand the cause of the blood spilled, the reasons behind such a savage crime. They arose many questions, however;  have the responsible ones been captured and await to be judged, dealt with properly for the families of those mourning their lost ones to find some form of justice, peace? Was it, clearly, a matter of religion? For Hungary is mainly a country that is Catholic, like France and often times fanatics of the religion take it upon them to cut down those who do not share their faith. Her words distracted him and he looked at her, a slight frown adorned his features.

“But I was never lost, Dorothea…” he told her, his voice softer now, his stance less stiff. He sighed. “Those people are dead, and whatever family of theirs remain surely will demand justice for their lives. We must do something.” But what exactly, he does not know. For he is French and he cannot bring himself to even think he will need to leave his country, even if it is his duty and he is very much well aware of this.

“But you left lost to me,” she whispered before she could stop herself or even think of what weight her words held. She was a Queen and he was her King but that did not mean anything. She knew he did not housed feelings for her and he more than likely did not start to have feelings for her. “I-I never know where to find you and I-” she just stopped and shook her head.

She took the letters from him and scanned them before she looked up to him again, “Let me go home,” she whispered blinking up to him. “Please they need their Queen... to see that I have not turned into a French women, to see they do have a true and loyal Hungarian Queen.”

His eyes remain on her and he frowns a little. He takes the letter from her hands and opens it, reluctantly. His eyes scan the lines on the paper, informing the King and Queen about a massacre, but to her respectful country, but in Hungary. There is a faint sigh that leaves his lips, a weight on his shoulder. For he is responsible for people that are not his own, people that should look at him as a King. 

“Why are we only being informed of this now?” he inquires, slightly annoyed with those that have been left back, in charge of their Kingdom. For such a matter is of importance, crucial, and they should have heard of it immediately, without any delay. A war breaking out back at Hungary is the least they need right now; the least he needs to worry about when his own country is still a mess.

“I do not know Sebastian,” she whispered, still for some reason unable to call him Bash as everyone else did. Maybe it was the feeling of knowing they would never love each other so why try? She only did what she needed to keep Hungary alive and soon she knew the people in government would like an heir from them. She just bit her lip and kept her eyes on the letter before she looked up to her husband. “How do you think.. their loved ones? I can’t imagine how they must feel. I knew how I felt when it was you and I couldn’t find you.”

She blinked surprised at her own words, a blush coming to her cheeks. She again kept her eyes on the letters, housing the most important news they had gotten since being crowned King and Queen.

“Well, where have you looked, your majesty?” Emone said, setting aside her sewing. The royal socks would have to wait for their repairs. “He can’t have gone far.”

“Everywhere within the castle,” she said and sighed, rubbing her head with her head. “I don’t understand how one person is so hard to find.”

—he has been consumed by duties, more than he ever had in his entire life and he feels trapped into this life; a life that he never asked for, that was forced on him. he steps outside for some fresh air, finds himself in the gardens and due to the cold weather, there are barely any other royals or nobles around. a sigh falls from his lips and he hangs his head for a moment, draws in a breath. but the sound of footsteps approaching, attracts his attention and he lifts his head, stands when his gaze meets the figure of his wife. “Dorothea…” he exclaims as if in a form to great her. “what brings you here in such a weather?” and he can admit to himself that he had almost forgot about her, so it is not a surprise if she was just looking for him.

Why was it whenever she wanted to speak with Bash he was never around? The letters came in hundreds in seems but in reality it was only two. It was more of the words of the letters that made it seem like hundreds. She almost dropped them both when she read their worth. She tightened her grip on the letters found her warmest cloak and was out of their room looking for him.

He was never in the castle she had learned that fast, she went out to the land surrounding the castle and found him near were she wasn’t sure were. She just tightened her hand around around the letter and went up to him offering the letters to him. “T-there’s been..” She stopped and took a moment. “There’s been a massacre.” She didn’t know how or what to say next. All she could think of was the mass that happened here and the plague before that and all the pain it had caused and now that pain was to her people.

She should be there and not here.

“What do you mean, you have no idea where my husband is?” It was amazing how no one in this whole castle seemed to know where he was. “Well he couldn’t have disappeared into thin air.”

She smiled and nodded. “That is good to hear.” she let her eyes go around them before landing on her again. “I’m sure you will, just give it time.” she smiled softly. Though inside she couldn’t help the true feelings from blossom as she mentioned her husband. If it wasn’t for who she was married to maybe they could have gotten along quite well as they both was from native countries. “I was headed out for a walk in the garden… if you want to, you could join me?”

“Maybe Bash and I will return to m- our court soon,” Dorothea said shrugging, it would be nice but it was a man’s world and she knew he would like to stay in France. Dorothea looked from the lady and then out to the gardens and then back to Kenna. “Isn’t that a bit boring?” she asked raising her eyebrow. “We walk those same paths everyday, does anything really ever change?”

“That we do. Watching from afar is… different. I know from experience. But, playing a game is always more enjoyable than watching it.“ Thomas smiled lightly. The company of non-French royalty was a little unsettling. "So, a toast to having fun with this intricate game of lords, ladies, and the occasional execution. Shall we?” He raised his chalice.

Dorothea laughed and nodded raising her own glass to the duke. “And how is your time fairing at French Court?” Dorothea asked, raising her eyebrows as she took a drink from her glass. “Keeping your affairs professional?”

She slowly raised an eyebrow, not being entirely sure about if the queen actually meant it or just said it. But then again, she actually didn’t really care. So she didn’t even bother thinking more about it. She smiled a little at her question. “Of course I do…. but then, I’ve been here for quite some time now and I guess the homesickness kind of… fades eventually. France is home to now.” it was a genuine answer. She had her Queen here and as long as she was, Kenna wouldn’t think of leaving. But most important, her best friends is here in France and the thought of leaving them, after all they had been through since they came to France. Kenna wouldn’t probably last long without them.

Her eyebrows raised, how could one forget their true homeland so quick? Dorothea shed a tear everyday for her beloved country when her husband was not looking. He tried very hard to keep her happy and she loved him for that. She nodded and then shrugged. “My husband has made the transition easier but maybe if I spend more time here I will be am to think of France as a second home.”

“The court is all politics, and certainly not the professional sort.” Thomas eyed the other with a hint of unease. “How you manage this day in and day out is beyond me. I suppose one must learn to embrace it.” He raised a silver goblet to his lips and took a long sip. “But, like all things, it is easier accomplished with a little bit of wine.”

“The French currently do know how to make things messy,” Dorothea agreed thinking back to all the rumors of the late French king. She turned her head looking to the Duke. “But it is funny to watch from afar, with a nice wine in your hand. Wine makes for a better time.”

Dorothea smiled once finished taking up Balazs leading him out to the women. “My father thought it very important we learn the basic skills of taking care of our horses,” she said petting her horse’s neck. “Thank you, he’s very special to me. Maybe you can teach me more of that language as we ride?”

Dorothea almost corrected her that her title was Majesty not highness. But she as in no mood, she later maybe would speak to the Scottish Queen about keeping her lady’s in check with addressing people after all they would be sister in laws in a weird way. She just nodded, she wondered what it had felt like being in the church when that had happened, she wondered what Bash would have done. Maybe she would ask him later. “French court is nice, I suppose,” she shrugged. “But one misses their own court. Do you not miss Scotland?”

Dorothea could only smile. She had a very soft spot for horses any and all. She bent forward kissing the blaze on the horse before stepping back and shook her head. "No," she said still smiling. "I enjoy tacking up my horse it's nice quality time but thank you." She gave her horse one more pat before going over to her own offering him carrot.

Born to the King and Queen of Hungary, Dorothea was doted on and spoiled since she was young. She was the apple of her father’s eye and she was the pride and joy of her mother. But despite everything that she wanted, she was never bratty, ungrateful or rude to anyone. If anything she showed great capability of a ruler, having taken after her father and mother who were both beloved by their people and well-respected. Her world shattered and everything changed when her parents passed away in a storm, while travelling to a neighbouring country to attend a wedding. After that she was left under the care of her older brother who had ascended the thrown. Dorothea was soon forced to face reality when her brother would press the matter of a union for her. For years she managed to get away with it, and hoping she will manage to evade longer, she travelled to France under her brother’s command to negotiate an alliance. However, little did she know that her sick brother and the maddening King of France would soon arrange a marriage between her and the King’s illegitimate son, Sebastian de Poitiers. Her brother then wrote to her to let her know that he was dying and he had no choices but to force her into a marriage in hopes of securing her reign. Now wed, Dorothea has visited her country for many months but has returned to the French court since her husband remained here.
