People are forgetting what it's like to be a young teen girl & the awkwardness of puberty with chapter 1184 lol
Reminder, Shuri is a child trying to get the attention of an adult she has a crush on. She's being inappropriate in an attempt to act more mature so that Brook would see her as a "woman". Obviously, Brook calls her out & tries correcting her behavior.
Oda also parallels Shuri's crush on Brook with Brook's crush on Candelle, who's also had a crush on an adult since he was a child.
Clearly, both situations are very much one-sided.
Girls this age are also typically obsessed with their chest in one way or another. Either they completely hate the idea of growing breasts or they are desperate to get them and have big ones.
Girls & Women have always had a bit of a fixation on this topic. Oda even gets questions about it from them in the sbs.
Not only is it an age old staple in animanga for younger female characters to complain about not being "grown" in the chest department, but this really isn't much different than what is shown in coming of age movies over in the west. This is just said in a very Japanese manner of speaking.
"But Oda has daughters! Isn't that inappropriate!?"
IDK man, It might actually be because he has daughters Oda gave Shuri that dialogue. His own daughter literally made fun of his love of boobage & doesn't seem to have an issue speaking on such topics.
I hate to sound like a bit of a boomer, but could this perhaps be a case of people being "too sensitive"? 🙃
None of the adults in the story entertained Shuri's nonsense. Brook strictly hits on grown women. Oda has Shuri covered up and no weird angled drawing of her body afoot. Just a child being too eager to grow up. I hate to break it you, but young teens do in fact have sexual thoughts sometimes. I don't see the need for any pearl clutching.
In my opinion, this is just another example of the fandom's overexaggeration of Oda's less savory qualities making them interpret the story in an incorrect manner. Because they've already decided Oda is the grossest man alive, literally everything looks completely sinister.
At the same time, the small group of people trying to push Brook & Shuri as a couple in the future "because she's old now" need to die. What is wrong with you? He's practically helped raise her! Oda would literally never do that tf. 😭
