Why We Need More Hispanic Heroes in Video Games

I started writing this video way back in March/April, but I was too nervous to actually record it. I worried that I wouldn’t do the subject justice, that I would just look and sound stupid, or that nobody would care.

But then I thought fuck it.

So here it is. This is a tense subject that’s very important to a lot of people, and while I may not be saying anything groundbreaking here, it still bears repeating: Video games need more diversity. We need heroes and heroines of all colors and types, who can be inspirations to everyone - not just a target demographic.

There are some great hispanic and latino characters out there, but the fact that I had to dig so hard to make up a decent roster just serves to show that we’ve still got a lot of work to do.

I wan to start a new series on my channel dedicated to diversity in video games, so I want to know - who are some of YOUR favorite racially diverse characters? I’ll probably start with hispanic/latino characters, but who knows where I’ll go from there!

(And before anybody asks - no I didn’t forget about Guacamelee or Reaper! Guacamelee is awesome, but it’s also very specifically a tribute to Mexican culture, and I’m trying to focus on AAA titles meant for a general audience. Also Overwatch hadn’t come out when I wrote this, and I forgot to add in Reaper!)
