"Then I suppose I'd be interested in hearing your price," gold was easy to come by, often for someone like Casimir it was felt to have lost its true value, but it was never without its meaning. How often it could obtain something he truly wanted; knowledge, relics, artifacts.
Casimir huffed out a breath of dead air as Aegean, likely out of precise calculation, dangled this bit of information in front of him. "You've mastered your ability to change faces so fast, hm?" He wouldn't forget the first time he met the thief, posing as some mere, helpless beggar, but Casimir had always seen right through them.
"Oh, am I like all the other dhampirs you've met out there?" Of course, the hunger was insistent, this cruel itch at the back of his throat, but he never found himself to be barbaric nor mindless, feeding on whatever came his way. "No, I haven't fed on Kay in quite some time, thank you. Though he has a rather colorful way with words regardless," he'd leave out the fact that the witch was likely on his own substances to warp reality and wouldn't need the venom of a dhampir anyhow.
Aegean was greedy, and he made sure everyone knew that fact. It was true, which meant it was an easy exploit. Most assumed he was greedy for gold, and he was, but he also believed value was circumstantial. A perceived attachment to gold meant detachment could be presented as an opportunity.
"Things are chaotic which means business is good. Taking more gold now while it's so abundant wouldn't be smart. Plus I'm in a good mood, so I guess you can start a tab with me and defer payment until later. Since it was Kay who referred you."
See? Aegean was doing Casimir a favor propped up by his half-truths and self-spread rumors. Sometimes, in order to operate in the shadows, a witch like him had to be savvy enough to create more. "Between you and me, the Spider values no one's work above mine, so needless to say, I've honed my technique. Collaborating with me will get you exactly what you're after. I don't fail contracts," he says matter-of-factly, opting to drop any pretense of downplaying his talents now that a potential price point was on the table. Aegean stood on business. "Considering you're not tonguing one of my holes and drinking me dry, you are entirely different than the vampires I know. But we could probably work together. Or rather, if you're asking for my help you've likely realized you can't get what you're after without me. Do you think I'm like the other witches you know?"
"I can't like watching you work?" It's honeyed but it's genuine, with his lower lip jutting out in a pout that only lasts seconds before it's replaced by a smirk of amusement. The proximity might have been something he should have done a better risk assessment on the situation; he was close which meant that Aegean was just as close, they were evenly matched. Kay's free hand rested flat on the front of the other thief's chest as his eyes glanced behind him to look into the open lid of the box. His attention snaps back to the other witch as their noses brush and the hairs on the back of his neck stand up as if he's been shocked. Briefly his brow furrows and the hand going for the box abandons it's task to instead cup the side of a stubbled jaw. It's new, it's nice, he definitely wants to mouth along it. "What if I told you I found this one already pretty fuckable?" Canting his head just a little, he turns Aegean's face this way and that gently, his thumb along his cheekbone. "Be a damn shame if I couldn't see it." His eyes are green, even in the lowlight they're striking and even with the fresh stubble, there's something so endearingly boyish about him. Risk assessment shoots up in his head, but Kay doesn't move from the warmth of the other's body against his, he keeps Aegean between him and the vanity and all the lightning in the air around them. They're still sharing air, and because he is not one to be outdone and not one to cave first, he bumps his nose gently to his fellow thief's, forehead resting against his.
Aegean was now Harmonium trained. Liking how he worked was the default. His struggle was that his best work was meant to go unnoticed. The spectacle of Aegean's personhood was always a distraction from his true intent. This concept played out in real time as his body invited Kay's advance while a weave to take control of the other witch's mind brimmed undetectably beneath his skin.
His operation was time sensitive, and Kay had already learned too much from their brief exchange. Removing him as a player in tonight's game was what Aegean typically would've done, but yearning compelled him to enjoy Kay's hands on his face and body. "These days, I really only fuck when I'm wearing a different face," he admits, slipping his hand beneath Kay's collar to cradle the side of his neck. His other hand bunched at Kay's clothes, pulling him even closer to eliminate all the space between them.
The anticipation was starting to burn, yet every time Aegean's lips ventured closer to Kay's, he hesitated. Temptation kept him from letting their foreheads part but reason prevented him from going further. He even bites his lips to reaffirm his restraint, though it's futile. Aegean is the one to give in, craning his neck to lightly peck Kay a few times. At least that was the plan until he felt the hairs of Kay's beard brush his face. He needed to give at least one deep, bottom lip-sucking kiss to Kay before being done for real. "We're never meeting like this again. You're a liability and I doubt I'll ever be able to work with you," he said after he did, however Aegean didn't stop like he planned to. Instead, he tilted Kay's chin up and began kissing down the length of his Adam's apple, heading towards the tuft of chest hair that was speaking to him. "Go away and forget you saw me tonight," Aegean says with a mouthful of Kay's neck. If he'd been using his magic, the command would've been sufficient. At least he can lie to himself later and say he tried to stay away from Kay, despite the heavy breathing and the rougher way he started gripping the other.
Person: @aegeanxcalla Location: Yeah it's another heist attempt "You know, I'd say we should stop meeting like this, but I kind of like it." Because it's impossible for him to go to a gathering of people without poking around in their valuables and apparently Aegean has the same urge. It's a considerably smaller house than the last one, no sprawling mansion, but it is still a noble's house and he's there to rub elbows. Because if Belladonna never set foot in Lysara again, someone was going to have to take care of that bar. And that someone was going to be him. Which meant he was going to need considerably more gold than he had at the moment. Which meant he really hoped Aegean hadn't beat him to the jewelry box on the vanity in the corner of the room. That Aegean is very close to, and so Kay keeps walking into the room, let's the door close behind him, and abandons all sense of personal space. "What am I late for this time?" They're practically chest to chest despite his casual tone, as Kay reaches behind him to tip the lid of the jewelry box open.
He intended to avoid Kay, spotting him earlier while beneath a veil of invisibility. He couldn't afford to get hot and bothered tonight of all nights. Then again, Aegean wouldn't give Kay a second thought if he wasn't a witch after his own heart. Breaking into a room he shouldn't have been in to take something that belonged to another? Yeah, Aegean was white-knuckling the edge of the vanity from the tension before Kay got close.
"It'd be cool if you actually heisted a site before I did for once, but I kind of like it this way too. You must really enjoy watching me steal circles around you," he teased back, doing his best to not be unnerved by the idea that Kay entered the room out of lust and not business. Of course, Aegean could see Kay reaching for his true objective in his periphery, which admittedly was a turn on. Kay being hot and distracting but still prioritizing his steal? Yeah, he had to lick his lips because he was beginning to feel a little thirsty. "I'd be careful if I were you. You were really late so I've finished up here already. I wouldn't touch the rings in the box, I added them myself." Aegean wasn't at this noble's party for a thieving contract, on this night he wore the mask of an assassin. He simply needed to put it on. "Puppeteering the fall of an entire house is hard work, so you should plan to make yourself scarce when you've got what you're after. Tonight will get … messy, but until then I could really use you, Kay," Aegean says, his voice soft as he cranes his face closer into the other witch's. Their noses brushed and he could practically taste the heat flowing off of Kay's lips, but even as his eyes shimmered with longing Aegean broke into a grin. "I'm in the middle of crafting a new face and I need you to tell me which is the most fuckable."
"I think need is a bit of an exaggeration," but he'd allow the thief this lapse of gloating, it wasn't every decade where a thief climbed the guild with ease and made a comfortable spoil for themselves. Aegean's talents were clear, beyond simple sleight of hands and the starts of a street urchin, his mind spoke for itself within the craft; he was no simple con artist nor thief. "I'm curious to what you're hiding, why you're hiding it," the gloating came from the other easy enough, with one mild accusation, one bit of the mask Aegean had curated seemed to effortlessly slip away.
Casimir was here with little expectations but he always reveled in surprises. His eyes scanned the little corner of Mercurys' Abode; the dhampir didn't often spend time within the sanctuary of the Thieves Guild, and he was indeed surprised by how this one seemed to lord over even a mere corner of it.
"We have a mutual acquaintance," if Kay wasn't to say anything, Juneau had explained a bizarre enough depiction of an adventure not too long ago and her description of some certainly was enough for Casimir to piece together a picture.
"Well, I prefer people who need things. Wants can be so fickle," he says, a sly smile stretching across his face. "For instance, if you needed to know what I'm hiding, there'd be a price to negotiate with hardly any cap. For enough gold, I could be convinced to be extremely forth coming..."
However, Aegean had his own curiosities currently going unattended. For instance, what someone could've possibly had to say about him to spark the dhampir's interest. "I know a lot of people, especially now that I'm on an infiltration assignment."
Just then Aegean's eyes flicked to the opposite corner of the storeroom behind Casimir and a barrel overflowing with gold and jewels appeared out of thin air. He nodded his head towards it before continuing, "Though I bet whoever ran their mouth about me while you fed them hardly painted the most flattering picture."
@aegeanxcalla location: Mojo Dojo Casa de Kalamar's place in the Cisterns notes: worried dad stayed up late waiting for his daughter to come home from her expedition in the desert.
"You stink of sand and blood," Kalamar addressed, voice smooth but neatly edges as he appraised the Olympian from outside the ritual chamber. His arms were crossed, one shoulder propped against the dark stone wall as Calla stepped back into his sphere. "At least that means you weren’t taken."
His gaze trailed over her and took inventory: no visible limp, no obvious injuries, and no a'dam. Relief followed, though the only evidence was in the slight sack that came from his shoulders - relaxing, only just.
"You were reckless," he added, not cruelly - just true. "But you came back." He pushed off the wall and approached Calla to scrutinize the witch a bit further. "Well, what did you find?"
Kalamar had a point. Calla didn't take big risks like volunteering for a desert excursion, but even though she was still chugging water to recover from her exhaustion, she didn't harbor a hint of regret. "I'll admit, I overextended beyond what I planned, but it was worth it. The desert was … eye-opening."
Considering the current state of the queendom and the number of Scholars getting killed, Calla was incredibly fortunate despite how things went south in the desert. She was alive, free, and currently had every excuse to remain near Eterna while other witches fought the various dangers that surrounded Lysara.
"I got to see inside a dragon's heart Kalamar. His most intimate treasures. My only regret was not witnessing his wrath in full force, but alas…" By all accounts, their mission was a failure, but Calla's faint smile carried a glint of triumph. Perhaps the mind spike still gripped her a bit, or perhaps she found clarity in the madness. "…I shouldn't be greedy. Lysara will struggle for a little while longer, I have a new story to record, and given all I've endured, few will question my desire to research within the Tower's walls as the Olympians wage their wars. The risk was well worth it, but my luck must be running out by now, right? I'll be careful for now. I promise."

It was impossible to keep tabs upon someone who didn't prefer to be found, and though Casimir had his own sense of pride at the ability of being undetectable, this one proved to give him a run for his coin. Playing the demure and clueless card but charting their way through the guild that Casimir had been a part of for nearly a century; it'd be easier to fool him if he was a mere mortal, but he was not. Thankfully, Kay seemed to have tethered himself to the other thief, which made this easier for Casimir.
As Aventia was claimed, those he cared for taken, the dhampir sought for those credible enough to be undetectable, those who were only found out when they were long gone. They couldn't free Aventia from the hold placed upon it, but Casimir vied to believe he'd the acumen to at least liberate those within. A suicide mission, but his life was nearly halfway over and there'd always been surprise he'd made it as long as he thus had within his exile, without his mother calling him back sooner.
He wasted little time when approaching Aegean, amusement on his face as his arms crossed; Casimir had collected a large scope of more human inclinations - wearing emotions on his face, crossing his arms, or scrunching his nose. "I'm hoping we can cut past you still holding onto your novice bit this time around." Amusing, but a waste of time for the dhampir currently to entertain.
If Aegean was breathing, then he was lying. It didn't matter if he had a reason or not, existing in total obscurity was his advantage in life. And he used it well. Who in the Guild knew a single truth about him besides the fact that he was liar? How often did knowing that fact do nothing to stop them from being played like fools?
Aegean preferred to be underestimated because it was much harder to remain invisible when people had expectations. To the naked eye, his storeroom in Mercury's Abode appeared nearly empty. To the trained or enchanted eye, it'd still look nearly empty. As Aegean turned, apparently done fiddling with a shelf holding a single antique vase, his expression of bewildered confusion slowly morphed into something more layered: smugness, irritation, and approval all wrapped up into one. Was Casimir aware or simply suspecting that Aegean had taken full advantage of the queendom's chaos to fill his coffers?
"You know, it'd be a lot easier to maintain if I didn't clear more contracts than just about anyone. I really tried, but it's so hard pretending to be mediocre," he pouts, currently more interested in who else has reason to question his slacker reputation than what Casimir has to say. "So you need me then? Me specifically and not just any talented thief? For a job? For something a bit more fun?" Aegean had been playing the part of vapid bard during his deep cover enrollment at The Harmonium so well that he could easily slip into a whimsical, flirty state. But here in the Thieves' Guild where he considered everyone both a rival and potential mark, his eyes were incredibly pointed despite his words. "How long have you had your eye on me? I'm honestly flattered to have an admirer."
It's not that the please isn't pretty enough, it's that Kay can't let him off the hook that easily. And also this was probably the most fun he'd had in the last six months aside from the whole goose heist situation. Because Aegean doesn't fluster, each time he opens his mouth is an attempt to one up him and he is more than willing to meet the challenge. Most importantly, it's a distraction, one with a boyish grin and long lashes. Not bothering to back away from Aegean being up close and personal, Kay turns his head to take another drag from his cigarette. When he exhales, it's only slightly off to the side of that grin. And with the acceptance that the only thing that mattered was the two of them in that room. No missing roommate, no missing boss, just two thieves and tension that he could cut with the knife in his pocket. "You know I'm flattered you think so highly of me, but I still don't know why you need a fall guy at all," Shifting his weight, he's well aware he reaches with his free hand to cup the side of Aegean's face, turning it slightly as if appraising it. That smile really was something, went all the way up to his eyes. "unless you're planning on failing. In which case, I'd be quite disappointed in you."
"Not need, want. Any two-bit thief can sneak off with some loot they swiped. True artistry is all about the performance and follow-through. When I've finished a job and pointed all the evidence at someone innocent, I didn't just get away with it. I created something beautiful to watch from the best seat."
Aegean was loyal to no member of the Trio more than the other, but his contracts for the Spider have increased his proficiency with sabotage. When people were cornered by a mountain of fabricated evidence, Aegean could witness firsthand what people were truly made of. Either they toil until they go down or they someone beat his game, proving that they're worthy of being exploited by the witch in the future. He liked Kay, so was it any surprise he wanted to see firsthand how the other danced amidst chaos and accusations?
While Kay played with his face, Aegean's deft fingers opened his shirt a bit until his fingertip stroked between the other's collarbones. As opportunistic as he was, he wouldn't miss this chance. "You know, you couldn't stop me if I want you to go down for my fun tonight. What if I'm buying time and waiting to spring a trap? You ever think about that? You could already be my mark," he throws out cheekily, his voice low while his grin remained cheshire and bright. "The fact that you think I could ever disappoint is insulting. When are you going to learn I'm very good?"
"'Friend' is putting it lightly, she's family." He says it as if it'll earn him some kind of sympathy point, though he doubts it. But that's part of the reason he likes Aegean, he doesn't seem to have such ties. It's probably not fair to the other man to have this image of him in his head that is the ideal thief. In Kay's defense, he thinks it has to do with the fact that he has seen Aegean on the job more often than not. So he likes to dream, sue him. Making a point to sprawl some more on the surface of the large oak desk, he leans back, an elbow resting on the wood as he takes a second to bring his cigarette to his mouth. Exhaling smoke, he takes his sweet time in lolling his head to look to Aegean behind the desk. "Are you telling me you're going to fail and therefore need a scapegoat?" The pout that graces his lips is playful, just the tiniest bit condescending. "And here I thought you couldn't possibly need my help considering you're so sneaky." He makes good use of those damn doe eyes his father gave him as a smirk settles across his lips. "You'll have to make that please a little prettier."
Again, Aegean has to refrain from rolling his eyes. Except this time, his stiff jaw and slightly narrowed eyes convey more genuine emotion regarding the implication of Kay's words than intended. Beyond the fact that "family" was a concept he placed no stock in, Aegean had a particular bone to pick with the queendom's privileged class.
Something dark flashes across his eyes as his palms slide apart on the desk's surface, slowly leaning him down. "It's not enough to take from these people. You've got to either fuck with their wealth, fuck up their spaces, or fucking take their lives otherwise what's the point?"
No one was perfect, though, and not even Aegean could begrudge Kay for his poorly nurtured connections. The moment of candor passed but he didn't pull back, close enough now to pull Kay's smoke through his nose and blow it back at him in a little poof. "I can't keep doing all that if I take unnecessary risks. I don't accept blame for things I can place on another's shoulders, and I treat my fall guys very well. Plus, you're much better with your tongue than I am. Use that. Pretty please? For me? It'll be worth your while..." Aegean could do adorable too, a grin worth a million gold plastered on his lips.
"I'm here as a favor to a friend." He points out, eyes following the notebook disappearing into Aegean's bag with interest. "It's more fun to sneak in." It's something he figures the other man gets, considering he hadn't glimpsed him downstairs earlier. Striding across the room, Kay perches himself on the edge of the desk and pulls a fancy cigarette case from inside his jacket pocket. It's gold and flowers are etched on the outside of it, he'd swiped it from someone earlier and hadn't gotten much a chance to look at it yet.
He was Araceli's disgraced date, that was his title now, not a noble or even a noble's son. Away from all of that, he could breathe, which was why he leaned back just a bit as he popped open the cigarette case. "Well when you put it like that, it sounds like I was late for our date." Kay muses as he plucks one of the cigarettes out of the case. Fancy, expensive, he's quick to weave a flame between his fingers to light the end of it before he's raising a brow at his fellow thief. "In which case, I am terribly sorry dear, whatever will I do to make it up to you?" The feigned hurt pout is brief, he's too relieved to be out of the crowd to be anything but playful.
Aegean had to physically force himself not to roll his eyes at the word "friend". It was unsurprising; Kay was charming and had the kind of connections that could make someone as antisocial as Aegean enviable. However, words like "favors" and "friends" made him want to gag when spoken with sincerity. "Sneaking? Sure, that works too. But the real fun comes from walking into places you're not wanted without a single protest. You're the first person tonight who's laid eyes on me and actually seen me. Count yourself lucky."
Because Aegean was a delight, even when he utilized one of his many tricks against people. Especially then. He didn't care what others had to say on the matter. "Standing me up to hang with a "friend"? You couldn't afford what it'll cost to make up for that. Why are all the men in this queendom so awful?" he jests in response, his improvisation and wit as sharp as ever thanks to his Harmonium education. Though, Aegean was weighing Kay's utility against the jackpot potential. He would've had to work much harder to get it alone, but if he could rope in another, then maybe… "What did you come up here to look for anyway? I mean, there are a few valuables, but the big ticket items are all locked away in a vault somewhere." Baiting, fishing, and tempting all in a few breaths, even someone like Kay who knew him well enough was subjected to Aegean's dishonest nature. Trust was a fool's game. "You look good tonight. Good enough to be my fall guy in case things get hairy," he says, leaning closer across the desk, unfazed by the wafting smoke. Not that things ever got hairy when Aegean was working a job. Despite what he may have seemed, he was a professional. "You're the one with friends here, they'd vouch for you anyway. Do me a favor and level the playing field by taking the heat. Pretty please?"
who? @aegeanxcalla where? Captain Tullia’s Boat when? After the Drowned King’s Quest
“What do you make of the rings?” The question is not necessarily a good conversation starter, but she had seen the witch’s abilities in combat, so she wanted to talk to her. If nothing else, she wanted to figure out if she was Tower trained, and if so, for which specialty. With her entrance to the Tower coming up, she needed to figure out if she wanted to become a Warrior of Mars or something else entirely. “You seemed to be looking at them intently back in the island, and I would love to know what mess I was stuck in.”
Calla wondered if any of the castaways besides Celaya and Nyla noticed her at all. She tried to not have much of a presence on the ship or the underwater temple, but the inquisitive gleam in her eye was the same as the one she had when she turned to face Valdís. Calla's inquisitive mind was taking in everything. "It's hard to say, I don't know anything about rings causing messes in the queendom. How are you feeling?" Calla had no reason or desire to withhold what she knew about the rings. Quite the opposite, in fact. "Rings that bind themselves to others have been a very popular subject in the library, though. I've basically started keeping the reference materials together at this point."
Person: @aegeanxcalla Location: Some Unfortunate Souls Progress Day Party Araceli should know better than to leave him to his own devices and yet he kind of thought that's why she brought him along. And so in turn he made a point to pick her up something nice if his fingers got sticky. There was a very nice bracelet that looked Sinarian in design in his pocket for her, the noblewoman he'd nicked it from wouldn't miss it for more than a day. Progress Day brought out even the richest recluses and so the room before him he is surveying is but a buffet of pockets.
But there's an entire grand home to peek around and so peek he does, slipping from the crowd and upstairs to the hall and he pops open the first door on the right. It's some darkened bedroom but the fireplace in the corner is lit and he makes a note to put that out. He can make out what has to be the master bedroom, the kind that he envies that seems to double as some kind of study. He silently closes the door behind him and goes through the motion of mumbling something to detect magic within the room. "Find anything fun?" He had expected objects, not a person, but he can make out someone sitting behind the desk off to the side in the low light. Too casually Kay leans against the door, arms crossed over his chest, more amused than annoyed that somebody had beat him to the room.
Gold and jewels were nice—Aegean would always be a material girl at heart—but he's always had a particular affinity for the Spider's craft. Dealing in secrets had its own, unique appeal, one that net a greater profit for Aegean in the long term.
The privileged were so easy to take from. It would've been comical how little Aegean had to try to get into this party and sneak away to peer over documents if it weren't so sad. Well, he was smiling at the desk so it was funny he supposed. "Just this and that. My reward for being swift as a hare," he says casually, not bothering to weave a forgery as he slips the notebook he found into his bottomless bag.
"Not surprised you got yourself an invite to this party too. Like wow, you're so well connected." Aegean's tone wavered, remaining pretty indiscernible. He had something to hide, but he also felt a little jealous and gloat-y all at once. Kay was an actual guest, so he looked better than Aegean. A lot better. Irritatingly hot, but… "It just seems so boring to be invited in everywhere, you know? I could never, but if it works for you, that's great," he pokes, failing to deliver a proper stare down due to his own bemusement. "You finally made it to the jackpot. What took you so long?"

"You were incredibly impressive. It shouldn't be long before your ring as its stone laid within," Calla praises gently as she approaches Alessia's solitary place on the ship. Though the natural progression of a witch was hardly news. Calla kept up with other happenings within the Tower, such as what people researched in the library. Scholars had to stay informed after all, which is how Calla knew that three more of the same rings that had sparked numerous inquiries had found new fingers. Whatever could be happening in the queendom? "Even with your … condition, you still managed to fight as ruthlessly as any Warrior. You should be proud."
who?: @nylathriasoulseer where?: the ship back when?: soon after the temple when they're completely safe :)
"I'm really glad you're alright, Nyla," she said softly, letting her shoulder brush against the elvhen's. It was rare to find someone outside of the Tower's brown robes who could match her intellect. Not to mention that Nyla possessed an earnestness that drew Calla in. She wanted to nurture this friendship, so of course she had been worried about Nyla during the fight and more so after the ring chose her. "Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that we saved those three and I know you're not walking away completely unscathed, but you're alive. That's a blessing in my book."

It wasn't much, just a torn piece of Calla's dress folded and tucked to resemble a flower. She knew it meant nothing in the grand scheme, but she still offered it to Celaya as they sailed back from the underwater temple. "There's no way that I could ever repay the debt I owe you, but I hope this will help to demonstrate what your sacrifice means to me." Calla moves in close to Celaya, hesitant to bring up the ring that attached itself to her finger, yet showing concern for her regardless. "Thank you, for keeping me safe on the raft. I felt safe underneath your shield and I still feel safe now, here with you."
