Li thought he figured out what Alyssa and Alek meant by "Time of the month.", He really did.
But he did not. 😔
Apparently it is NOT reference to the lunar cycle and were-wolf shifting. Doesn't mean Alek has to bitw his head off, YEESH.
I will not stop with the jokes and werewolf/period analogy. Our poor IBS/Period/Werewolf having trans boy must suffer as I have suffered. (And Li too. Because it's funny. :) )
Alek is just like your every day, normal teenage boy. He goes to school, he eats way too much food, he plays games and sports with his friends, and once a month he becomes a hormonal beast full of rage and fury. Yes, he's trans, but that has nothing to do with it. When the moon is full and the sky is clear, Alek becomes a beast of the night: a werewolf. How did he contract such a ferocious curse? He won't tell you, but even if he did, you wouldn't believe it. Surely it couldn't have been by drinking a 'potion' at the 'Ren Faire' that was 'sure to put some hair on his chest.' Surely not.
It's a re-draw of a screenshot from Escaflowne of Dryden. :) I liked it a lot.
It's Erik and his mermaid wife, Lily. u U u/
They're Li's parents. (And yes. She DOES look like the Watery from Cardcaptor Sakura.)
Leviathan Book 3 spoilers!! You have been warned!!
Alternate Title: "My Literal Nightmare as a trans person."
(I am not even joking. Wake up feeling startled, miserable, and sad because my friends are mad at me for lying to them. :( )
Anywho, book spoilers under the cut!!!
Deryn's nerves twitched a bit. There was something odd about the way Alek was looking at her, not just exhaustion and nerves. He'd been tense all night, but now there was something stormy in his eyes.
"What do you mean, you can't tell me?" She asked.
"What's wrong, Alek?"
"I need to ask you a simple question," he said slowly.
"Will you listen to every word? And answer me truthfully?"
She nodded. "Just ask."
"All right then." He let out a slow breath.
"Can I trust you, Deryn? Really trust you?"
"Aye. Of course you can."
Alek breathed out a sigh as he stood up. He turned without another word and walked from the room.
Deryn frowned. What in blazes was he-
"Can I trust you, Deryn?" Repeated Bovril, then it sprawled across the table, chuckling to itself.
Something coiled tight and hard in her chest.
Alek had called her Deryn.
He knew.
Some creative liberties: I didnt wanna draw the mess hall. So here is a hallway. The background is by Satoshi Takabatake!
Transmasc. Deryn. Transmasc. Deryn. I'll die on this hill.
“Deryn remembered after Da’s accident, her mother and the aunties trying to turn her back into a proper girl— skirts, tea parties, all the rest. As if they wanted to erase the old Deryn and everything she’d been. She’d had to fight like mad to stay who she was.
That was the trick—to keep punching, no matter what.”
