Your own home.
But it's nothing like you imagined.
You inherited a cute little house in which your grandmother lived. It's at the edge of a small village, in the very North of Sweden.
Älvsbyn it is called—the village at the river.
You didn't expect much when you moved here. What would you expect? Spotty internet connection, maybe?
Yes, it is spotty sometimes. But things could be worse. Right?
You soon find out, not really; you have an annoying neighbor, friends are hard to come by, there's not much to do, it gets dark way too early and incredibly cold in winter and it stays light almost all night at lukewarm temperatures in summer, and—

Alda swings from side to side on the chair she's sitting on. "Hmm, that's a tough question. I think being a bit less... emotionally explosive would be nice. I sometimes struggle with that." Suddenly, she smiles. "But overall I'm actually happy with myself."
Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?
"Well, that's similar to asking me if there is a God, right? Or Karma, or Fate..." She thinks for a moment. "It'd be nice if it was like that. But I don't think so, no. Sometimes, things just happen."
Best kind of snack?
A large smile spreads across her face. "I thought you'd never ask! Definitely KEX, or any kind of waffles. I love the crunch." She hurries off, and comes back moments later with two bars in her hand. "Here! One for you, one for me."

The Ros come up to the MC to ask what they thought of a certain perfume, because they know that some perfumes trigger sneezing fits for the MC. Then the MC — who sometimes does things on autopilot thanks to their inherent lack of filter and the fact that their friends never scold them for it, finding it cute/funny instead — says 'excuse me,' sniffs just below the jaw on the side of the neck, and says, 'Can you lend me some?' Before the Ros can answer, the MC mutters to themselves (still audibly to the Ros): 'I think I'll put some on my comfort pillow (body pillow). Maybe that way I'll fall asleep faster.' But the Ros answer that they haven't even put on the perfume yet. Hearing that, the MC realizes it was just their scent after a shower. They look at them like this:
What are the Ros's thoughts throughout this interaction?

That is one long scenario, and a really fun one at that xD I will choose Älvsbyn because it'll have Chapter 1 released publically in 11 days and I'm really excited for it. I had a lot of fun writing it.
Felix would naturally take it as a compliment. He'd also find it very adorable. Would smoothly offer to lie on the comfort pillow so it'd pick up his scent.
Alda would be excited and charmed. MC likes her scent? What a sweet compliment, even if accidental. She'll be happy for days. Might tease MC about the accidental compliment, but just a little.
Ivar would blush - especially his ears, they're the first thing to blush on his body. He'd feel slightly uncomfortable knowing that MC doesn't know he doesn't wear the perfume just yet, and look back at MC the exact same way once he tells them.
Nea would be close to shrieking in happiness - but she holds it back to not embarrass MC more. That's so sweet of them! She thinks it's super adorable, and definitely a sign that MC likes her. Right?
Rasmus would probably attempt to say something like, "I can lend you all of it," but because he doesn't get to say anything really, he just ends up incredibly amused and slightly turned on. Would definitely tease MC about this later on.
Saga would give MC a slightly amused, soft smile. They're so adorable. And unintentionally charming. She'd tell MC that she is happy about their compliment to lessen their possible embarrassment.
Orvar would be surprised - but pleasantly so. That's something he definitely didn't expect. He'll think back to this moment often, and it'll make him smile each time. He thinks MC is very cute for complimenting him like this.
Mara would be close to hyperventilating - but of course she does her best to not let it show. MC likes her scent?? BEST. DAY. EVER. She'll make sure to not wear any more perfume in the foreseeable future.
I was so worried I wouldn't reach 10k words for the next chapter of Älvsbyn and it'd feel way too short. Turns out, I was totally wrong and my worries are truly just that. It's a little more than 14k and I'm currently coding it.
How do Werewolves work in the world of Älvsbyn and Ardeal? - Part 1
This is the first of five posts about the lore I created considering werewolves in my books. I will post one part per day for the next few days - until the Ardeal release on February 1st.
Part 1 - How to become a werewolf?
There are a total of four ways to become a werewolf.
First, by choice - the rarest way to become a werewolf. It's normally not chosen, but a witch, a warlock or a demon has the capabilities to perform a ritual and make someone willing a werewolf.
Second, through a curse - similar to the ritual, a different ritual that does not need the person to be present and/or willing can be used to curse someone. It takes more energy and is more complicated to perform than the ritual for the willing, but an experienced magic user can perform it without issues. Don't piss off witches and warlocks, and especially not devils.
Third, via werewolf bite on a blood moon. Also a very rare method, but depending on where you live... if there are several werewolf packs around, you might want to stay inside for the night. And don't forget to lock your doors.
Lastly, through genetics - but only if the werewolf parent(s) were not transformed via ritual/curse. Offspring where both parents are werewolves will always be werewolves, offspring with one human parent have a 50/50 chance to be a werewolf, offspring from a human parent with werewolf genes and a werewolf have a 25-33% chance to be a werewolf. Hybrids between werewolves and other supernatural creatures - for example vampires - are impossible and will die in the womb.

It's a tiny building, stuffed to the brim with souvenirs, maps, post cards, brochures and the like. It seems like nothing is really arranged or sorted; everything is everywhere.
Including the woman who throws a rather exuberant greeting your way.
"Hi, hello, welcome! Oh my god, finally I see someone else, it's been so empty today, well, not only today but…" Her voice becomes more and more quiet until it fizzles out.
Your head turns to look at the woman. Her auburn hair is a rather unusual look, just like her skin—tawny skin with lighter vitiligo patches. Dark blue eyes slightly crinkle at the corners as she smiles at you. "How can I help you?" The small name tag on her chest says she's called Alda Sjöström.
You can choose which if you wanna do this for. Or can take certain ros from different ifs 🙂
How would the RO's react to the MC tracing the words "I love you" on their skin?

I'll do it for both Älvsbyn and Ardeal, I think I have done this for Suevi before... at least I remember doing an ask like this for Suevi (and I can't find it on the Älvsbyn blog).
I'll also treat it as crushing stage/first time admitting feelings!
Älvsbyn
Rasmus wouldn't get it, his focus lies on trying to not burst out laughing from being tickled.
Felix would smile about it and ask MC for it to be his turn, only to trace "I love you, too" on their skin.
Nea would focus intently on the movement and understand the words instantly. She'd blush and get all giddy before bursting out that she loves MC, too.
Saga would grow quiet and a little sad. She won't admit it right away; only after being alone with her feelings for quite some time she would ask MC if they want to talk about what they traced on her skin.
Orvar would need a moment to understand it, but ultimately pull MC close and tell them he feels the same way.
Ivar would blush about it. He wouldn't admit it right away - he'd brood about it for a while, most likely. Later, he'd come to MC to talk about their and his own feelings.
Alda would be unusually quiet before admitting that she loves MC, too. She hopes it'll stay that way.
Mara would internally want to instantly confess her love and make out with MC. Externally though she'll keep her calm and confess to MC that she loves them, too; the only thing showing how excited she is the breaking of her voice.
Ardeal
Călin would give MC a smile and pull them into a hug before confessing his love.
Viorel would like to say it, he really would - but he just can't bring himself to do it. Instead, he'll keep quiet, acting as if he hadn't noticed what MC spelled out.
Lăcrămioara would feel like running away. Or throwing up. Maybe both. With admitting her feelings comes commitment and that's definitely not what she wants. If she doesn't commit, she doesn't disappoint, right?
Brândușa would be surprised. She... didn't think MC would feel that way for her - hell, she hadn't thought she would feel that way about MC. After some rumination, she'll talk with MC about how she feels.
Serghei would act as if he hadn't expected anything else. He did, and he was afraid MC might not feel the same as him. But instead of admitting this, he pulls MC close and tells them with a grin that he knew it, it's hard to resist him after all.

IF Origins game
Answer for your first or favourite IF project.
I really couldn't decide which IF to answer this for because I love all of them. I decided to go with Älvsbyn, simply because it made me create my own slightly altered universe that I now have plans for multiple other projects in.
Why did you write your story as interactive fiction, compared to alternative formats? Because I prefer to be able to tell a story in different ways, with different outcomes. I've thought a lot about doing linear stories instead, but the branching of IFs just tickles my brain in the correct way.
Where did the idea for your IF come from? For Älvsbyn, the idea came from folklore, and how scary some of it can be. There are a ton of mythological IFs out there, but very little IFs focus on folklore (besides mostly vampires and sometimes werewolves).
How did you come up with your story's name? So uh, fun fact: I have looked into moving to Sweden among other countries in the past, and I can speak some Swedish. I've stumbled across the real Älvsbyn on maps before, and learned that Älvsbyn is named Älvsbyn not because of the word älva - fairy. But because there's a stream running through the middle of the town, and stream is älv. When I started to come up with things for Älvsbyn, I remembered this play on words that had thrown me off before, and I found it very fitting for the setting.
Who was the first character you came up with? MC's grandmother. A really lovely lady - albeit a little creepy at times...
What was your biggest challenge early on, and how did you overcome it? I'm not sure if I had one, to be honest... Coding was interesting, because I learned Twine for Älvsbyn - but that was a fun challenge. Worldbuilding was also interesting, because I hadn't done it before. Writing it comes relatively easy to me, and I didn't have a problem to come up with most of the story outline. I guess challenges are only big and hard to overcome if you're not having fun with them.
Were there any stories that inspired you to start writing yours? Not really. Only some folklore books! It's different for my other projects, but Älvsbyn is very much an exception. :)
Has your IF gone through any major storyline/plot changes you first thought of it? Not Älvsbyn, no. Suevi has been through that.

You can definitely befriend it to some degree in the future! The lore will take quite some time to arrive (because the horrors have to build up), so you'll have to be patient in that regard. :)
You can be less skeptical about them the next time you see them. But for this first meeting, MC just gets surprised by its presence and since this is their very first encounter with the supernatural, I found it to be unrealistic if they weren't at least startled by it.

She's quite affectionate! She mainly shows her affection through spending time with you.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Alda is an absolute partner in crime. You can do all kinds of shit with her, she's totally here for it.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
She loves loves LOVES cuddles. Just sitting on the couch, legs intertwined with one another, talking or watching a movie or series together or doing something else fun!
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
She's up for settling down, although she never imagined herself as much of a homebody. She can clean and cook but she doesn't like either activity.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
She'd start a massive fight over nothing so she could be the bad guy, because she doesn't want her partner to feel like it's their fault.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
She's uncertain about commitment since this would be her first actual relationship. But she is quite impulsive, so at some point she might just say "fuck it" and elope.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
She's... not the most gentle, but she definitely gives her best.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Sometimes her hugs are a little too intense almost, but she does like giving and receiving them!
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Quite fast. She's afraid of losing the ones she loves so once she's sure about her feelings, she has to get them out.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
She's not the jealous type. When she does get jealous, she'd start crying simply because she doesn't understand her feelings at first and they'd overwhelm her; but once she does understand, she'll work through them to make sure they don't become an issue in the future.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Her kisses are rather innocent at first, and later very heartfelt and tender.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Children test her patience a little. She'd need regular breaks around children because she'd simply get exhausted.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Very chill! She doesn't like to hurry in the mornings, and would rather get out of bed earlier to not need to rush.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Also very chill. She just likes to be comfortable and chill, it's when she's calmest.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
She'd spill everything. It's like a dam that broke.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
She's probably the least patient of the bunch. She gets easily annoyed, but it does take rather long to actually anger her.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
She's not the most observant and she's prone to forget things, but she does remember the odd detail here or there.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Confessing her love for you.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
She's not overly protective, but she is protective. She'd also LOVE to get protected!
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
She's putting quite a lot of effort into all of it.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
She's impulsive, stubborn and bad with pressure.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
She's moderately concerned with her looks.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Yes, very much so.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
She gives "mother of the friend group" vibes sometimes.

She can only fall asleep on her back, but often rolls onto her side once she's asleep.

She would be happy to commit! But she'd want to be in a relationship for a few years before completely committing to something so life-altering.

She's very gentle, both physically and emotionally.

She really likes hugs. Her hugs can be different kinds of ways, depending on the situation and mood. Stormy, wild and energetic or soft, careful and warm.

Moderately quickly. She definitely wants to be certain about her own feelings before saying it.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
She's not that jealous. When she does get jealous, she becomes visibly insecure and sticks more to her partner. Later, she'll want to talk about what made her jealous and how to best handle things going forward.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Her kisses are gentle, delicate and tender. She'd kiss you on your jaw or shoulder, and she'd like to be kissed on the cheek or forehead.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
She's pretty good with children, albeit a little inexperienced.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
They're lively yet relaxed.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Preferably calm, to relax from the day.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Once she starts opening up, it's hard for her to stop. There's only one or two things she wouldn't instantly reveal.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
She's relatively patient, and if you do annoy her, she's way more likely to pout than actually become angry.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
She remembers the important stuff, but it's possible you'll have to tell her about details several times - she's more focused on the grand picture than the details.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Meeting you will always be a special memory to her.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
She's quite protective and also likes to be protected, but only if you don't come to harm.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
She'd put a fair amount of effort into dates, anniversaries and gifts, but everyday tasks are lower on her list of things she puts effort into.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
She can be quite anxious, and she can be vengeful.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
She's not greatly concerned with her looks. A normal amount?
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Sometimes, yes.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
Technically she's a socialite like Saga, but she doesn't like money and can't handle the people in these circles, so she tends to stay out of that stuff and leave it to Saga - who handles it much better. Nea is very down to earth and doesn't need much to live a happy life.

People with an aura of superiority around them.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
She sleeps on her side with her arms wrapped around a stuffed animal (or you), rolled up and warm under the blanket.
If we choose for MC to have a kid, are we able to customize them separately or will they simply take on MC's characteristics?

Kiddo will join in Chapter four, which is still quite far in the future, and there's some things I'm still not certain about.
Character-wise, they'll definitely have their own little personality, and I'm thinking about maybe (maybe!) including two or three different personality types you can choose from.
Looks-wise I'll leave things very vague and open to imagination.
Keep in mind that MC's child (if one is chosen at all by the player) is only playing a minor role in the story and the focus won't be on them.
