No fry!
So no fry came out of this lovely experience, but I'm okay with that. Both bettas came out unharmed and are still happy! Everyone says Sebastian ate the eggs, but I watched him put them in his nest. It's okay though, I'm just glad I got to experience the process and I'm sure I'll try it again sometime!
The embrace! Sebastian embracing Kagome!
Sebastian and Kagome's love nest! (I ultimately changed the decoration in the tank because Kagome was able to hide too easily) These pictures are from Saturday night to present! Very minimal injuries sustained if any!
Betta Mating
So, I've decided to try my hand at mating bettas! I have lots of people lined up in the event that the spawning actually produces fry. So far everything has gone really well. I'll give you all a play by play as to what's happened thus far! Saturday nignt: I put a male (Sebastian) and a female (Kagome) together in a 5 gal tank with a divider. Sunday morning: there was a bubble nest that Sebastian had made. So I introduced the 2 and they chased for a little while and he ultimately kept working on his nest. At the end of the night, I put Kagome in a cup and floated her in the tank with Sebastian. And gave him a cup to anchor his nest to. Monday morning: no improved bubble nest, but Sebastian wouldn't leave the cup alone that Kagome was in. So I introduced the 2 again. Within the hour they were performing a beautiful fancy dance! It's been about 1 hr and 30 minutes and they're still dancing. I'll upload some pictures after this post of what's happened so far. And when I get internet again I'll upload the videos!
Beautiful Long Tentacle Anemone

"I mustache you to bring me home with you"... yes I'm that awesome :)
New betta lady. She's in temporary housing right now, but her colours are so pretty!
Working with Fish is what I love!
Working with animals in general is always fun. It's a lot of hard work, but I feel like it's more rewarding, and people seem more grateful when their animals are happy. Sometimes I think people take better care of their animals than they do themselves. Working with dogs, cats, and birds is great and all, but I like fish and aquatic life the most. A lot of people ask, "Why fish? They're so boring they just swim around and do nothing." It's simple though, fish are a challenge to take care of. They need a lot of attention in different ways than most house pets. Sometimes people can get away with putting a fish in a bowl and it lives for years, but I've never had such luck nor is it really good for the fish. Setting up a tank and having it be the life of a party is an awesome feeling. Giving tours at an aquarium where you help clean the tanks and the guests acknowledge your hard work is very satisfying. It never fails to put a smile on my face when I see how happy people are looking at my aquariums. It's also a nice feeling of relief to know I did my job the best I could and people appreciate it.
Created this plant tunnel at work today. The Koi fish really love it! :D
