The action takes place in a remote small town, in the 70s.
Niles is the silent, intimidating son of the local sheriff. A man of few words. Yet he secretly hosts his own night radio show dealing with supernatural phenomena, conspiracy theories and other topics based on his observations of the town. The show is an outlet which reveals his brilliance and his sharp mind, the anonymity overcoming his natural shyness.
Meanwhile, Gavin is a wandering man, newly arrived in town. An ex-detective investigating the mysterious disappearance of his half-brother. Indeed, after months of research, the only clue he has found leads him there : it is piddly at best, but somehow someone in this forsaken place has seen something and broadcasted about it on his little radio show without realising what it really was about. The host has the most beautiful voice Gavin has ever heard, and a knack for narration. Now, if only Gavin could find this person in real life...
Bonus details under the cut :
- In this AU Niles has a secret stack of paranormal magazines which he hides from his family (especially from his nosy older brother).
- "RK900" is his radio host pseudo. It has something to do with technology and wavelengths.
- Connor is the popular, sweet-looking brother that everyone prefers but he is actually involved in several shady businesses. How lucky he is to have this angelic face. He would actually be the most dangerous member of his family if it weren't for his twin brother Silas who left the town in unclear circumstances after a deal gone wrong. Connor was there that day, and still won't tell what happened. He doesn't believe in the paranormal despite having witnessed some inexplicable phenomena first hand: to him, there is simply a logical explanation he isn't aware of. It was actually his retellings of the strange things he saw that got Niles interested in the paranormal in the first place.
- Gavin has always felt haunted by the heavy past of his family, but since Elijah disappeared, he sometimes feels this haunting literally. He is not sure he believes in the paranormal, and is not sure whether he wants to believe in it either. It is frustrating not to close a mysterious case, yes, but thinking about the kind of creatures/phenomena that would explain some murders... now that opens the door to some existential terrors he would rather not think about, thank you.
Fantasy AU in which Nines lives in a clan by the sea. Following several months of food scarcity due to a desastrous fishing season, Nines gets picked to be sacrificed to the local sea deity. Gavin is the disgruntled sea monster that wakes up one day to find a drugged human in a boat at the entry of his cave.
I headcanon Gavin as half-octopus in this. Nines is terrified of him in the beginning, but cannot go back to his clan or else they'll end him. He tries to flee using the boat and almost drowns in a storm. Gavin reluctantly accepts that this human is his responsability now, especially when he realises why Nines was sent there in the first place. As Gavin himself was kicked out of his mer-tribe years ago for his unsocial behaviour, he cannot help but sympathise with Nines' pain, whether he wants it or not.
After a while, when he is confident that he won't get eaten, Nines takes it upon himself to improve the cave they're living in. If he's going to be stuck here, at least he wants the place to be comfortable. Gavin doesn't show it, but he's secretly happy to help Nines gather material, to see him build furniture. He won't admit it, but he was terribly bored all alone, almost never leaving his hibernating state: Nines gave him a purpose in life. And somehow the two of them form their own tribe.
Pirates and noblemen!AU: an aesthetic for my and @ygreczed-3 's AU, featuring pirate!Gavin, kidnapped nobleman!Nines, adventures at sea, ancient ruins, a mystical oracle, and many more fun things!
A different beginning: a Reed900 AU in which no one found Nines at Cyberlife after the android revolution
It has been a few weeks since the revolution, and Hank and Connor are working on a new case: there have been several attacks on YK models, leaving them with corrupted memories and in various states of damage.
Neither Connor nor Jericho found the RK900 prototype lying in stasis in Cyberlife’s building. When androids became fully recognized as sentient beings, electromagnetic waves were broadcast to transmit deviancy, as it is now illegal to control an android. They must have free will. Which results in the RK900 prototype being suddenly awakened.
Up until now, RK900’s life has been as such: subjected to cruel and brutal anti-deviancy experiments, exposed to explicit situations, forced to destroy other androids, and other simulations and tests to make sure that no situation could ever make him waver and deviate. There is a red wall in front of him each time he tries to escape this hell or refuse an order. He is yelling inside his mind, but he cannot do anything.
Yet suddenly he is free. Deviancy awakens him as Cyberlife technicians are about to definitely deactivate him, scared by the revolution. RK900 has no choice but to kill them. He then flees Cyberlife’s building, completely lost. For the first time in his life he has no instructions. No red wall. No one to hurt him, yes, but no goal either. What is he supposed to do now? What is he?
His stress levels skyrocket. As he wanders through the streets of a devastated and still unstable Detroit, he is jumped by scavengers who try to attack him. Once again in his short life, despite being free, he is forced to hurt people. Afterwards he walks around aimlessly, sometimes stopping in his tracks, waiting for… what exactly? He doesn’t know. For a reason to keep walking, maybe. But there is no reason to stay still either, so… His stress levels keep getting higher and higher, as deviancy messed up his reaction to external events. He is close to self-destruction, with no way of exteriorizing his pain. There is no way out, he was never supposed to be brought to this point.
Until one day he crosses path with a YK500. Physically, RK900 cannot cry, he is not equipped for it. But he knows that YK androids can. So, in a desperate attempt to reduce his stress levels, he forces an interface with the YK model, transfers all of his pain to her, until she is wailing and crying RK900’s pain by proxy. His programming is stronger than hers, with superior abilities, YK models cannot keep up. When it is over, he feels a little bit better. Except that now he is overcome by guilt as he sees the glitching, spasming android body on the ground. Yet the pain and the stress are still there. He is still lost. So he keeps walking, until he can find someone else to cry for him.
Enters Gavin.
He is working on a totally different case, actually, but due to a conjunction of circumstances he stumbles upon RK900, lying in the ground, LED spinning red, exhausted because he hasn’t entered stasis since he left Cyberlife, terrified to do so in this hostile environment.
Gavin finds the implications of the existence of another RK model very upsetting. Not knowing what to do, Gavin takes RK900 home. The next few days, Gavin goes to work normally, confused but refusing to talk to anyone about this, as he himself is not sure whether it was a good idea to bring the RK900 model home. But the android does not attack him. He stays inside his flat all this time, stroking his cat and not doing much. He is clearly traumatized and Gavin is not cruel enough to kick him out.
A few days later, one the YK models of Hank’s case has a panic attack upon seeing Connor. Connor and Hank are confused by her reaction, but Gavin connects the dots. He is now faced with a dilemma. Moreover, it becomes harder and harder to keep his secret, as Hank and Connor become suspicious. Gavin may be a good detective but he is not a great liar (his usual reaction is to simply insult anyone who gets too close, he is not a great bluffer). He knows that he cannot ignore what RK900 did, but he developed an attachment to him, even though this was never part of the plan.
Anyway, Hank and Connor end up discovering the truth. It takes a while for things to settle (Connor in particular is quite upset that Gavin has basically been hiding the criminal he was hunting down), but finally they sort it out when they understand what the RK900 went through. Hank and Connor are very surprised when RK900 (now named Nines by Gavin) expresses the desire to stay with Gavin and not go with them, or go to Jericho. Gavin takes Nines to Elijah so that he can give him the ability to cry and de-stress in a healthier way. Ironically, the first time Gavin sees Nines properly cry is after their first kiss, and Nines has to reassure Gavin that he did not hurt him: he just had his first taste of happiness.
(In this AU, once he overcomes his past, Nines becomes a fireman to help the people around him. Also, he prefers non-verbal means of communication when he is stressed out.)
Big thanks to @aesahamyr for bringing this pirates and noblemen AU ! The aesthetic bring me back to when I was imagining my fantasy AU... Speaking of that, Aesahamyr and I had an exciting conversation and we came up with a whole scenario in this universe. A Reed900 story mostly, with some Hankcon, and I'm so hyped by everything we created so far ! I'm still pondering the pros and cons of making a comic of the story we came up with... It's pretty ambitious, a little bit less than the fantasy AU, but... I don"t know if I'm able to draw it. I'll keep thinking about it !
PIRATES AND NOBLEMEN AU CONCEPT ART
Just to explain the artworks, Nines and Connor are princes. Nines is kidnapped by Gavin, who is the number two of a great pirate. He takes Nines to his boss so they can claim a ransom. In the journey, Nines and Gavin get closer...
On the other hand, Connor goes after Gavin to save his brother, helped by Hank, his sword instructor and private security guard.
Also, I tried to make an animatic of Gavin and Nines' first meeting. It looks pretty okay for a first try ! I may make more of these in the future !
By the way, if anyone is interested, here is my main blog @aesahamyr-reblogs where I reblog things and ramble about other things, all mainly related to Hank, Gavin, Nines and Connor^^.
AU in which Niles is an introverted bookstore owner and Gavin is a tattooed biker who keeps coming to Niles' store in hope of getting his attention.
Gavin keeps pestering his "gang" (they call themselves a gang, but they're not actual criminals) into helping him to find excuses to buy books. "C'mon guys, we're not savages! Who wants to learn something new?" He secretly fantasizes about lending his leather jacket to Niles and taking him for a ride through the city.
He also cleans his act when he's with Niles because he thinks his coarse manners will scare Niles away. He doesn't know that 1. Niles is perfectly aware of what he is, and 2. Niles is actually very weak for his rugged charm.
Niles is having an existential crisis every time Gavin enters his shop, because for a good boy, he's waaay too attracted to his opposite and he doesn't know what to do about it. Connor, who has to hear his brother gush about his crush each time this happens, is not amused.
I just wanted to write more of Nines wearing nothing but Gavin's t-shirt. It's both sweet and suggestive. Again, I apologize in advance for any grammar mistake, English is not my first language. Enjoy^^.
For a model designed for warfare, Nines spent quite a lot of time doing chores. Connor teased him by saying that he was coddling his disaster of a human, but Nines didn’t see it this way: to him, taking care of the flat he and Gavin shared had a soothing effect. It was nice, to see the laundry neatly folded in the wardrobe and not throw haphazardly across the bedroom. It was calming to see the sink empty for once, and the plates drying on the rack. This was not to say that Gavin was a slob before, but his job clearly didn’t leave a lot of time for household maintenance. He still did most of it, arguing that an android who didn’t eat or dirty anything shouldn’t have to lift a finger, but Nines insisted on doing his part. After all, it would be awkward otherwise. Moreover, Nines loved the gratifying feeling that came with seeing all the little check marks and arrows indicating his complete missions.
New mission: cook for Gavin. Mission complete.
He was good.
Clean the bathroom. Mission complete.
He was useful.
Vacuum the flat. Mission complete.
He helped Gavin.
He pleased Gavin.
And, if he could tease Gavin at the same time, well, he would not refrain from doing so.
Which was why he was currently dusting the kitchen counter, wearing nothing but a loose t-shirt that Gavin had given him a while ago. The fabric had lost its shape, but Nines loved how comfortable it made him feel. In fact, he loved it even more because of its used state: it meant that it had traces of Gavin’s existence, Gavin’s imprint on it. And that was more than enough, to be reminded that he had been deemed worthy of sharing Gavin’s life.
Nines was almost done with the kitchen when he heard Gavin open the door and put the grocery bags on the floor.
“No no Princess, you stay there. Let me close the door. Good girl. Nines?”
“In here,” the android said, registering Gavin’s footsteps getting closer.
Although he didn’t have a heart per se, Nines could have sworn his thirium pump accelerated with anticipation, but he didn’t let it show. When he heard Gavin’s steps stop, he forced himself to keep dusting the already pristine counter and not look at his human. His auditory processors could tell the change in Gavin’s breathing, which sent a spike of stimulation right through him. Nevertheless, he made an effort to act as if everything were normal.
“Have you found the brand of flour I wanted?” Nines asked, hoping that Gavin would understand that – Yessss!
When he felt Gavin put his hands on his hips and press himself against him from behind, it was as if all his circuits, already on edge, had been set aflame. A hot wave of gratitude and arousal coursed through his body, and he thanked whichever deity watching over him to have given him this wonderful man.
“I did. I also bought some of that jam you love to sample.”
“The strawberry one?” Nines felt Gavin’s warm hand slowly creep up his back.
“Hum. Yes. The one you like best.”
Gavin’s hand went up to Nines’ neck and the android shivered, knowing what was coming. As Gavin slowly guided him down, Nines abandoned any pretense of cleaning the counter in favor of following his human’s implicit orders. Letting go of the towel, he put his hands in front of him and let himself be bent. The coolness of the ceramic was a nice contrast against his cheek, his synthetic skin getting hotter with each passing second.
“You deserve it,” Gavin said, holding Nines’ neck against the counter with one hand, the other lightly caressing Nines’ naked thigh. He pressed himself against the android harder, and Nines let out a small moan when he felt the clothed stiffness against his bare bottom. His fans kicked in, and Gavin bent down to whisper in his ear.
“Do you want me to give you the best?”
And if that didn’t send Nines’ circuits reeling…
“Please…” he sighed, his voice already fizzling with statics.
Gavin’s left hand squeezed Nines’ thigh before going up and slowly approaching the area that Nines desperately wanted him to touch, teasing but not going in. It was tantalizing.
“It’s what you were made for, after all,” he added, grinding against Nines playfully.
Yes I’ll do anything you want, I’ll clean your house, make you breakfast, get on my knees for you, let you use me, I’d do anything for you Gavin please use me I love you
Panting, Nines realized that he had unconsciously activated his hand screen which was currently glitching, trying to keep up with his scrambled thoughts in a feeble attempt to express the incredible range of emotions and sensations caused by the familiar weight of his human on top of him, the loving restraint that was Gavin’s privilege, and Gavin’s alone. Gavin noticed it too and chuckled.
“Don’t worry Nines,” he said, his fingers finally entering him and making him startle with pleasure. “I’ll give it to you.”
Hello everyone! I felt inspired to write some softness today (it has angst, but it's all very soft in the end). I apologize in advance for any mistakes, English is not my first language. Enjoy^^.
Summary: Gavin Reed reflects on his life on a Sunday morning and realises he is allowed to love.
That much he knows. He has heard it from his father, while trying to avoid another punch.
“You’re pathetic.”
He has heard it from his mother, when she was crying on the floor.
“It’s your fault your father left. It’s all your fault!”
But that’s okay. That’s fine. Gavin is a grown-up now, and he can find other people to love him. Except that life itself has declared that Gavin Reed is indeed a piece of trash who doesn’t deserve anything good. At least that’s the lesson he got from his first three boyfriends. They were very clear, all of them, that dating Gavin had been a waste of their time, an awful experience, something that they were ashamed of retrospectively.
As Gavin puts some ice on his cheek and hopes the bruises won’t be too obvious tomorrow, the irony of the situation is not lost on him: he has chosen a career in which he can protect victims from abuse, but can’t even defend himself.
In the night of his life, the only star he can see is Tina, who, bless her, will never fully understand how much she saved him when she brought a kitten to his flat one day and suggested he take care of it. With Princess in his life, Gavin finally decides that he has enough of this “feelings” crap, and settles for one-night stands in seedy bars. But the empty beds immediately after business is done are a constant reminder that, in spite of all his efforts to give his partners a good time, he is still, to his core, unlovable.
The other stars he has found in his life slowly fade away.
Anderson is not the same man anymore after the accident, and who could blame him? But it hurts so damn much to see Hank, his model, his mentor, his… friend (?) rant about how much of a scumbag he is when he tries to take his bottle away. A few years later, it’s his job, his last reason to live, that threatens to slip through his fingers.
Gavin thinks that this is the end. That there is no point, no point in trying, no point in hoping. One day, Connor, recently deviated, brings from the depth of Cyberlife to the DPD a being somehow even more lost than Gavin. And the detective may not know it yet, but it is not a star, but the entire sun that has just entered his life.
Gavin could smell the bacon and fried eggs before even opening his eyes. He could also picture in his mind the face that just said those words, and he smiled in return.
“ ‘Morning, Nines,” he said, sitting up and rubbing his eyes before actually paying attention to what was in front of him. Standing next to the bed, wearing nothing but his pajama shirt, Nines had just brought him a tray full of toasts, jam, bacon, egg, and a glass of orange juice to top it all off.
“Well, tincan, spoiling me much?”
“I am the spoiled one and you know it,” Nines answered with a small smile, climbing on the bed and putting the tray on front of Gavin.
“You didn’t have to do all that.”
“I know, but I wanted to. It’s Sunday, I don’t sleep in and I wanted this morning to be…” Nines hesitated and sat on his knees.
“Perfect?” Gavin suggested. They both knew how loaded this word could be, with Nines’ insecurities, but they had chosen to deal with the problem rather than avoid it, aware that it would not simply disappear. “All right, but this breakfast cannot be legally qualified as perfect until a hot piece of android is with me to eat it,” he added, gesturing Nines to come closer.
The android obeyed and lied down next to Gavin, while he sat in tailor, the tray on his knees. He let out a sigh of contentment when he took the first bite from his toast. Delicious.
“They’re great, as always,” Gavin said, and his heart missed a beat when Nines’ face lit up at the compliment. He had gotten much better at deciphering the android’s subtle expressions.
“Here, open,” he said, dipping the tip of two fingers in the jam, before gently putting them in Nines’ mouth. The android let out a small moan and couldn’t help but twitch at the wonderful mix of fruit, sugar and his human on his delicate sensors. Gavin looked down at the military grade, state of the art android whose little blue tongue was happily cleaning his fingers, his eyelids fluttering with pleasure, his LED a calming blue that let Gavin know he was doing a good job.
“How do you want to spend the day?” Gavin asked, pulling out his fingers and taking a sip of orange juice.
Nines gave him a half-coy, half-embarrassed look, and Gavin chuckled.
“Again?” he said, bending down to kiss Nines’ hair.
Nines nodded, and stretched himself even though he has no need to, just to showcase his long legs and give Gavin a teasing glimpse of his backside, checking out of the corner of his eye that Gavin was not missing the show. Not being fooled by what was going on, Gavin took its time savoring his breakfast, pretending he couldn’t see Nines not-so-discreetly displaying himself, rubbing his legs against his through the cover, playing with the hem of his pajamas.
Nines was about to leave the bed when Gavin put the tray aside, firmly but gently grabbed his wrist and pulled him down so that he fell back on the bed, on his stomach.
“You naughty, naughty tin can…” Gavin said, and gave him a good smack on the butt.
Nines let out a little yelp and laughed.
“What have we learned yesterday, Nines? Pain…” (another smack on his butt) “… is always followed by pleasure,” Gavin said, peppering kisses on his lower back.
Nines started squirming, his loins heating up.
“Gavin… Please…?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll take care of you, you insatiable little-“
He was silenced when Nines turned his head to look at him with his soft, soft blue eyes that always reminded Gavin of a clear summer sky. There was arousal in those eyes, of course, and playfulness, but also, indubitably, certainly and irrevocably, love. Gavin’s heart soared and he leaned down to kiss Nines, not wanting to do something embarrassing. And as the android called his name with this voice, and looked at him with those eyes, Gavin was faced with the truth that he was finally not alone anymore.
@asset35-maya said: Completely agree! After the Revolution, the only war that Nines has to fight is with himself. He struggles with integration. His superior processing power makes him overthink everything tenfold, and his reputation and demeanour make him out to be more intimidating than he really is. The person who sees through it all, is Gavin, and Nines becomes devoted to him in every way.
Exactly! I like to think that at the beginning of their professional relationship, things were not exactly paradisiacal between them, due to Nines' difficulties with communication, and Gavin being, well, Gavin. But Nines doesn't take any of Gavin's crap, and therefore quickly earns his respect. Nines actually shows kindness to Gavin, who is used to all his coworkers (except Tina) hating him (or at least he thinks so, but that's another story). And so they become friends. And then they see through each other's façades, all the little cracks of hurt and suffering, Gavin needing to feel needed (the reason he was so scared of androids is that he feared he wouldn't be useful anymore), and Nines needing to feel wanted (he feels really undesirable due to his stunted social programming, and the fact that he was literally discarded in Cyberlife's buildings, where he could have spent his whole "life" "asleep"). So yes, naturally they fall in love, and Nines is more than happy when Gavin shows him all the little ways he can make him stop thinking so hard.
Anyway, I'm not saying that Nines has a huge praise kink because he needs to feel reassured that he has value even if he doesn't act the way Cyberlife wanted their best android to act, but I'm totally saying this.
I agree with the popular premise that Nines was awakened with deviancy imposed on him, despite it being inherently contradictory to his core programming. So being a deviant, especially in a post-revolution world that has become so complicated, is nearly painful to him.
Yet he is still "Cyberlife's best creation", and therefore must go on. He and Gavin start a relationship, and at first Nines thinks that Gavin will expect him to behave a certain way in the bedroom, due to his appearance, his initial goal, his reputation, etc.
Except that no. Not only does Gavin understand and perfectly handle Nines' feeling stressed out and overwhelmed by his deviancy, he also comes up with a solution to help him calm down. And that's when Nines learn that Gavin is a dom, and a damn good one.
Gavin gives him simple instructions to follow, and Nines never feels better than when he serves Gavin. Seeing his internal screen displaying all his complete missions when he bottoms for Gavin has both a grounding and exhilarating effect, especially since he trusts Gavin to take care of him. And Gavin does, always.
I'm seriously considering making a reed900 blog to share all the AUs and short stories I've thought about. This ship just won't leave my head^^. It would be with bottom/sub!Nines, in case it might interest other people.
