In 1982, Vincent Chin was murdered in Detroit by two white autoworkers at the height of anti-Japanese sentiment. For the first time, Asian Americans around the country were galvanized to form a real community and movement. This documentary, inspired by a series of town halls organized by Asian Pacific Americans for Progress on the 25th anniversary of the case, features interviews with the key players at the time, as well as a whole new generation of activists. "Vincent Who?" asks how far Asian Americans have come since then and how far we have yet to go. FEATURED INTERVIEWS (alphabetically): Tanzila Ahmed, Angelo Ancheta, Jay Chen, Curtis Chin, Judy Chu, Philip Chung, Ben De Guzman, Kelly Hu, Roland Hwang, Lillian Ileto, Jon Jang, Hamid Khan, Michelle Ko, Stewart Kwoh, Corky Lee, Eun Sook Lee, Lisa Ling, Dale Minami, Eric Nakamura, Yun-Sook Kim Navarre, Angela Oh, Sejal Patel, Sumun Pendakur, James Shimoura, Renee Tajima-Peña, Doua Thor, Robin Toma, Nhung Truong, Francis Wong, Frank Wu, Phil Yu, Helen Zia, and a group of young APA activists whose lives were impacted by Vincent Chin. Presented by Asian Pacific Americans for Progress in Association with Q & A Films and Tony Lam Films.

We're stoked to get press coverage over at Director Justin Lin's blog YOMYOMF about our work. This is a milestone because it is the first ever Asian press we've ever gotten. Thanks, YOMYOMF for getting the message out there on what's happening and coming down the pipe for AET.

Journey to the West is a remake of a Japanese tv series based on an ancient Chinese fable, but none of the actors are Asian! (7816 signatures on petition)
Seeing this petition becoming viral across every continent raises the specter that global citizens reject the misappropriation of Asian cultures and erasures of Asians from our own stories. Join us in putting Netflix on notice that world citizens are not happy with their whitewashing and yellowfacing practices in their movies and TV shows.
Netflix needs to be held accountable for being the perpetrators of white supremacy via their whitewashing and yellowfacing of Asian stories for their own selfish monetary gain. Netflix needs to stop engaging in neo-emotional and neo-psychological colonialism against Asian cultures and identities.
Here's a quote from the Petitioner:
"You can’t embrace an identity that you always see represented as the perpetual Other,” Asian-American Lucy Linai, who created the petition, said. “Media producers who replace Asian characters with white actors reinforce the idea that whiteness is the standard and European features are the epitome of beauty, thereby convincing non-white children to loathe their own appearances and develop self-hate. Distributors like Netflix need to hold producers accountable so we can end the practice of whitewashing.”
