I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything

my friend just had an art show and they were communicating with the gallerist over email. They could clearly tell that the gallerist was using AI to respond to their emails, but just rolled their eyes and moved on.

and then on the day of the show, my friend asks, "where is the camera I requested?"

gallerist: "you didn't request a camera"

my friend: "I did, and you confirmed that you would have one here."

gallerist: "that isn't true."

and then she proceeded to pull up the email thread, and my friend could see that every single email they had sent had been summarized by AI, and that the gallerist had then had AI write a response to them based on the AI summary, and that the AI had detected that they needed a camera, and confirmed on behalf of the gallerist that they would bring a camera, but because the gallerist had offloaded the work of actually reading and responding, she simply hadn't actually made any note of it herself, therefore didn't bring it, nor did she even know one was needed.

so my friend had done all of this communication about their needs and expectations to be able to make the show possible, and the person whose job it was to read that information and get it done had simply.... not read the information and not done it. because AI.

I am here to predict that pansmp!Legundo is actually a Norseman, not Greek.

Looking at his announcement art, I was struck by how thoroughly *not Greek* he looks, more so bringing to mind ancient Norse & Celtic cultures for me. The emphasis on furred clothing, the tattoos…

But what really cinches it for me are his axes.

That style of axe, with the long, hooked blade edge & proportionally narrow base, is known as a bearded axe, & it is most strongly associated with Iron Age Viking cultures. To be totally honest, trying to find trustworthy sources for Bronze & Iron Age battle axes in Europe has been a nightmare for me this morning, don’t know if my search engine skills are on the fritz or what, but I unfortunately I don’t have the level of well sourced detail I prefer to have. Still, this style of axe was not seen in classical Greece, which is more known for styles such as the labrys, which had a broad, rounded shape & two blade edges.

Tbf, bearded axes didn’t show up much for at very least a few centuries past Ancient Greece, but like, we’ve got a bird girl in this series, I think historical accuracy isn’t gonna be dead on. The clothing & tattoos still read closer to ancient Norse than Ancient Greek, so I think the axes can be assumed to be playing into that.

So yeah, definitely suspecting some Zeus-Thor line blurring fuckery there.

Rooks suggested maybe we're looking at a Zeus-Odin confusion, which was an interesting idea to me, both being King of the Gods in their respective pantheons. So I did a little more digging into Norse gods as I have slightly less knowledge there than about the Greek ones.

I came across the concept of interpretatio graeca, interpretatio romana, & interpretatio germanica, the processes of Greeks, Romans, & Germanic people, respectively, interpreting the gods of other cultures as other aspects of their own gods. These concepts were discussed by various early historians, Herodetus being one of the first to write about interpretatio graeca, & Tacitus being the first to use the term interpretatio romana. Interpretatio germanica is a newer concept from what I can tell & seems to have some controversy around it, especial whether it was really a thing or the correlations seen to appear are a result of interpretatio romana instead, but, uh, don't feel like getting more lost in the weeds there!

Anyway, in interpretation romana (& maybe interpretatio germanica if it is actually a thing?), Thor is typically an aspect of Zeus or Hercules. This link is even seen in various European words for days of the week. For instance, in English, we have Thursday which gets its name from being Thor/Thunor's Day, while in many more latin derived languages the same day of the week was seen as Jupiter/Jove's Day, giving us the Spanish jeuves, French jeudi, & Italian giovedi.

While Jupiter/Jove is the Roman counterpart to the Greek's Zeus, & Apo did specify that pansmp is specifically ancient Greek, the first record of Thor is from the Roman historian Tacitus around 100CE. Greece was conquered by the Roman Empire around 150BCE, so a good two & a half centuries earlier, so there was not a chance for overlap between the Greek Zeus & Norse Thor really.

But also, as I said before, those bearded axes became prominent about a millennium later than ancient Greek culture, give or take a few centuries, so like, we're already hand waving some timeline stuff.

Point is there were definite historic links from Zeus to Jove to Thor & my theory continues to potentially hold water.
