“Every time I visit #DRC I’m amazed by the Congolese people. Their hard work and commitment to improving their country is truly inspiring. Last week, I was back in Goma visiting with coffee cooperatives and community-based organizations supported by my org Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI). It was very exciting to see that hard work, coupled with sustainable investment, is paying off. A special thank you to Starbucks for their commitment to socially conscious investment in Congo, and Heal Africa for providing these communities with essential health care services”. - Ben Affleck facebook.com/benaffleck

Ben Affleck Lends His Batman to Red Nose Day — but Says His Kids May Not Be Impressed As part of NBC’s star-studded Red Nose Day Special, which benefits charities fighting child poverty around the world, the Oscar winner will appear as a “stripped-down” version of the famous DC superhero — the first time Affleck is doing so outside of the Batman v Superman and Justice League films. “I’m doing my Batman voice,” Affleck tells PEOPLE about his involvement in the special. “No cowl — just the stripped-down, unplugged version.” Might that be the same version that the father of three occasionally performs for his kids? “Unfortunately they are too smart for that and they require actually dressing up to be impressed,” Affleck says with a laugh. The actor admits that he enjoys being able to have a bit of fun with the character, since the Dark Knight is not particularly known for having a sense of humor. “It’s a lot of fun,” says Affleck. “Batman is such a serious, heavy character, there is the temptation to be funny about it, or at least self-aware. I really enjoy it. Obviously it is a character that means a lot to a lot of people and I’m having fun playing it.” Affleck was in the middle of playing the role in the upcoming film Justice League when he befriended Red Nose Day executive producer Richard Curtis. Affleck’s ex Jennifer Garner and their kids joined him in London, and the family rented Curtis’s house, “totally coincidentally,” Affleck says. “He made friends with Jennifer [Garner] and I, and it was a soft spot for me because we had the whole family in his house there in Notting Hill, which was really wonderful and beautiful. We had a great time and traveled throughout Europe from there as a base, so it was pure serendipitous good fortune.” The Red Nose Day Special airs May 25 on NBC as part of a three-hour block of programming that begins with Celebrity Ninja Warrior for Red Nose Day at 8 p.m., followed by Running Wild with Bear Grylls for Red Nose Day featuring Julia Roberts at 9 p.m. and the Red Nose Day Special — with the U.S. premiere of the highly anticipated Love Actually mini-sequel — hosted by Chris Hardwick on NBC at 10 p.m. http://people.com/movies/ben-affleck-batman-red-nose-day/
I would love to, are you kidding me? I think that would be great. I’ve often said that I want to direct a movie that Jennifer was in because I think she’s so great and she could do something really cool. The problem that gets in the way is that one of us has to be looking after the kids at home. I’ve got another however many years until college. We’re lockin’ it down for the next 13 years.
