As most of you know, I am a fairly new witch and I have accumulated a lot of information on the types of witches that are out there. This list is a combination of @thecuriousviolet‘s, @baesilic’s, and @rainy-day-witchcraft‘s posts/masterposts on all of the types of witches. If I have any missing information or if some of the information down below is incorrect, please let me know, because I know I simplified a lot of it; I will update this list with any new/corrected/missing information. Thank you :)
Air: Variation of Elemental. Focuses on the air element. Uses air, wind, air-related tools such as the wand. Air symbols are used as well.
Artistic: A witch that incorporates arts and crafts in their practice. This includes painting, drawing, building, cutting, creating, dancing, singing, sewing, etc.
Asatru: A branch of Heathen. Worships major Norse pantheon.
Blood/Sanguine: A branch of Chaos. A witch that incorporates blood or other life-giving fluids in their practice.
Bone: Witches who use animal bones in their practice.
Canis: A witch whose focus is on protection magic.
Celtic: A witch that incorporates Celtic culture, magic, deities, and/or language and symbols in their practice.
Ceremonial/Ritualistic/Traditional: Witches that practice magic formally.
Chaos/Chaotic: A witch that prefers new unorthodox magic over traditional magic. This type of witch is usually independent. This witch is also commonly incorrectly called a “dark” or “black” witch.
Copulta: A witch whose focus is on love magic.
Cottage/Hearth: A branch of Kitchen. This is a witch that incorporates magic into simple everyday things such as cleaning and cooking and other related activities.
Creature: A branch of Green combined with Hedge and Spirit Worker. This witch works with magical and astral beings and spirits.
Christian: A witch that recognizes the Christian god as the one and only deity and may use their magic to work with or worship him.
Crystal: A branch of Green. A witch that mainly uses crystals and stones in their practice. These crystals and stones may be used for spellwork, rituals, healing, chakra balance, meditation, etc.
Cultus: A witch whose focus is on deities, the worship of deities, and ceremonial magic.
Dance: A branch of Artistic. A witch that incorporates dance in their practice.
Demonic: A witch that works with demons.
Discero: A witch whose focus is on knowledge and learning.
Draconic: A witch who incorporates dragons in their practice. This can include imagery, astral communication, and spellwork.
Dream: Variation of Hedge and Oracle/Diviner. A witch that uses magical means to interpret and control dreams.
Earth: Variation of Elemental. Focuses on the earth element. Uses grounding exercises, rock/soil collecting, strong appreciation of the natural world, creates and uses symbols associated with earth.
Eclectic: A witch whose practice incorporates different types of magic.
Elemental/Elementum: A witch that uses the elements (water, earth, fire, air, spirit) in her magical practice.
Energy/Intrinsic: A witch that uses energy practices and manipulation by way of the mind and body’s natural energy rather than using physical tools and materials.
Equo: An aggressive witch who uses their magic for energy manipulation and spiritual vampirism.
Exorcist: A variation of Spirit Worker. These witches practice the banishment of dark or foul entities, called exorcism. Sometimes raised into the practice.
Fae: These witches communicate and work with fae. Must leave offerings as to not upset or disrespect the fae. Usually only work with one type or court of faeries.
Fire: Variation of Elemental. Focuses on the fire element. Uses anything fire-related (bonfires, candles, burning objects) in most spellwork, creates and uses symbols associated with fire.
Flora: Variation of Green and Garden. Largely incorporate floral materials and flowers into their practice.
Garden: Variation of Green. A witch that uses mostly herbal and botanical magic.
Gaulish: Worshippers of Gaulish deities.
Green: A witch that utilizes greenery, plants, herbs, and/or flowers in herbal and natural magic. May focus on holistic medicine and healing.
Grey: This witch is neutral, meaning that they either don’t benefit or harm others, or that they benefit and harm others; never one or the other.
Heathen: A witch who follows, works with, and/or worships the Norse deities.
Hedge/Astral: A witch that mostly utilizes spiritual work: astral travel/projection, lucid dreaming, spirit-work, healing, out-of-body experiences, etc.
Hereditary: A witch that is born into the practice and continues to follow the path. Magical knowledge may be passed down through generations. May be brought up learning about traditional and folk magic.
Kitchen: A witch that uses magic in herbal mixtures, brewing, baking, and cooking. This witch shows respect for all aspects of the natural world, such as herbs, crystals, fae, and the elements.
Kemetic: A witch that works with and/or worships the Egyptian pantheon.
Laveyan Satanic: A witch that accepts Satan as a concept rather than an entity. Also known as secular Satanic witches.
Literary: A witch that uses books to practice magic. May often use bibliomancy.
Lokean: A witch who worships and/or works with the Norse deity Loki and others associated with him.
Lunar: A witch who worships/works with/draws power from the moon. Usually favors practicing after the sun has set.
Lunos: A witch whose focus is on healing.
Medicus: A witch whose focus is on health, healing, and medicine.
Melodic/Music: A variation of Artistic. A witch that uses music in their magic. This includes musical chimes, rhythm, humming/singing, clapping, singing chants during spells, playing instruments, and/or playing music during spellwork, magic, or during energy exercises.
Necromancer/Death: A variation of Chaos, Bone, Spirit Worker, and/or Blood. This witch uses spirits to empower themselves, hoards bones, uses graveyards, graves, the spirits of them, as well as the dirt (or even plants) that are found in/on them. May also honor the dead and/or deities who work with the dead.
Nuntis: A witch whose focus is on divination.
Nymphatic: A witch who focuses their magic on Hellenistic and nymph-related deities, spells, etc.
Odinic: A witch that works mostly with Odin, Thor, Freyjr, Freyja, Frigga, and Heimdall.
Omni: A witch who studies and practices all fields of magic.
Oracle/Diviner: A variation of Spirit Worker. A witch whose focus is primarily on divination. Tarot, runes, pendulums, spirit boards, scrying, crystal gazing, aeromancy, stichomancy, sea gazing, animal gazing, bird watching, lychnomancy, ceromancy, astrology, numerology, amathomancy, dream interpretation, shufflemancy, tea leaf reading, people watching, palm reading, and face reading are common divination practices used by these witches.
Otherkin: A witch who relates to an non-human or animal in personality or spirit or believe they are a reincarnation of such. May worship deities of a related non-human or animal.
Paper: A witch who uses paper in their magic.
Poison Path: A variation of Chaos, Green, and Garden. A witch that uses plants, herbs, and materials that may be poisonous, deadly, cause hallucinogenic effects, or affect the mind or body in some way.
Pop Culture: A variation of Urban. A witch that uses pop culture as a main focus or inspiration for the craft, such as using movie lines or song lyrics in chants.
Practical: A variation of Kitchen. Use magic for everyday things. Often use sigils.
Satanic: A witch who worships/works with Satan in their practice.
Scientific: A form of magic in which both metaphysical ideas and scientific facts/theories are mixed in together by the individual practicer.
Sea: A witch who incorporates aspects of the ocean in their practice and often draw their power from the sea. Sea witches without immediate access to a body of water are called ‘land-locked’.
Seasonal: A witch that draws energy for their magic from the seasons.
Secular: A witch that does not incorporate religion into their practice.
Shadow Worker: A variation of Hedge and Energy. This witch uses the “shadows” of their own past to work with them.
Sigil: A witch working majorly with sigils and the intent that can be put into them to activate their power.
Solitary: A witch that works independently.
Space/Stellar/Star/Astronomy: A variation of Lunar. A witch focuses mainly on astronomy in their practice.
Spirit Worker/Medium: A witch who performs spellwork in with/with the help of spirits. These witches may use Ouija, demon spirits, spiritual contact, etc.
Stitch/Embroidery/Sewing/Knit: A variation of Cottage and Kitchen. A witch that either uses string hobbies for the purpose of magic or incorporates magic into their string hobbies. These hobbies include but are not limited to embroidery, sewing, knitting, stringing, and knotting.
Storm/Weather: A witch that uses the weather for magical purposes.
Subtle: A witch that is in the “broom closet” and therefore cannot be openly witchy due to their family, friends or environment.
Sun: A witch who draws their power from the sun.
Swamp/Bog: A witch who works in freshwater bodies of water. Heavy use of water and moisture, rich wet soil/mud, and sometimes incorporate the use of bones, animals, and insects, especially the local plants. May incorporate Southern witchcraft and Hoodoo as well as the healing powers of mud and potion-mixing.
Tea: A variation of Kitchen and Cottage. Use tea for many magical things, especially tasseography.
Tech: A variation of Urban. A witch that incorporates technology into most of their magical practice.
Tesserae: A variation of Green. A witch that focuses mainly on animals and uses animal materials in their practice such as furs, antlers, etc.
Theatrical: Variation of Artistic. A witch that performs for spellwork, rituals, for deities, etc.
Urban: A witch who prefers the city and more unorthodox, simple witchcraft.
Vampiric: A witch that feeds off the energy or emotions of others and use it to power their magic. May use blood in their magic.
Waste/Desert: A witch that utilizes the desert environment. Works with desert plants such as cacti and succulents. Uses the moon, desert earth, fire, rainwater, wind, local plants and herbs, as well as animals/creatures of the desert, such as snakes, spiders, scorpions, etc. These witches are very skilled at working minimally.
Water: A variation of Elemental. A witch that works with water scrying, collecting sea/storm/snow/river/spring water, swimming/bath spells, creates and uses symbols associated with water, and other water-related magic.
Winter: A witch that works best in the cold. These witches draw their power from the clouds.
