It was a warm late-summer afternoon on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, the kind of day when everything felt soft and careless. You’d been working in the Memorial Library all morning, grinding through spreadsheets and notes, trying to drown out the ache in your body for something less abstract.
You saw him when you stepped out—blond hair damp from a workout, loose tank top hanging off his shoulders, sweat-darkened gray gym shorts clinging to thick quads. His white ankle socks were pulled halfway down his calves, and when he bent to tie the laces of his running shoes, you caught the ripe, warm scent rising off them in the heat.
He looked up and caught you watching. For a second, you almost turned away, ashamed at your hunger. But you didn’t.
Instead, you walked over, feeling the thud of your heartbeat in your neck.
“Hey,” you said, your voice coming out steadier than you expected. “You, uh—have a minute?”
He looked at you with that relaxed Midwestern smirk, the one that told you he’d been handsome his whole life and didn’t have much to prove. “Sure. What’s up?”
You hesitated. “This is going to sound weird. But…you mind if I smell your feet?”
He raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t flinch. He glanced around the quiet corner of the quad, then shrugged. “You serious?”
He let out a short laugh. “Alright, man. Whatever. You wanna? Go ahead.”
He sat back on the low concrete ledge, stretched out his legs, and planted both socked feet flat in front of you. The fabric was stained dark at the toes and heels. The heat of the day had brought out everything: salt, tang, that thick, raw funk of a body working hard.
You dropped to your knees without thinking. The moment your face hovered above the damp cotton, the smell flooded you—sharp, musky, intoxicating. You closed your eyes, breathing it in like it was a sacrament.
He watched you, one corner of his mouth curling up. “Damn, you really like that, huh?”
You nodded, unable to speak, pressing your nose against the arch of his foot. The warmth seeped into your skin. The weight of his casual permission pressed deeper into your chest than any shame could.
“Take your time,” he said, voice low, almost amused. “I’m just chillin’.”
And you did. You stayed there, letting the world disappear, while he leaned back in the sun, letting you have what you needed.
