The use of science and engineering to the production, processing, and distribution of food is known as agricultural technology. Agricultural technologies are frequently created with an emphasis on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. About 70% of agricultural production globally, according to an estimate from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 2016, is based on “improved” or high-yielding varieties. The FAO also noted that 64% of the food produced globally, or 80%, originates from just 10 nations, or “irrigated regions.”
