This is a reminder that you can support our military service members and veterans yet still fight against unjust wars and the dismantling of the Military Industrial Complex (MIC). The sad fact is that, by and large, our service members aren’t being harmed by outside forces but by our own. Military sexual trauma affects so many in service and other harms of isolation and PTSD leave our soldiers vulnerable, hurting and facing chemical/alcohol dependency and suicidal ideation. Supporting our troops means actively fighting for our service members to have access to lifesaving resources and treatment. It means allowing marijuana to be administered to veterans experiencing PTSD across the board. It means holding perpetrators of sexual assault accountable and working to ultimately end military sexual trauma. It means recognizing the effects combat has on soldiers and helping treat them properly. It means ending unjust and unethical wars built around imperialist self interest. Instead of mobilizing our military to stoke racialized fears of refugees at the boarder we should be utilizing them to fight the wildfires in California. Our trans soldiers still face uncertainty in their careers. We still send our people to serve in conflicts that we should have never initiated. Supporting our troops means bringing them home and stopping these wars. I am proud to be a member of About Face: Veterans Against the War. I’m proud to be part of a national movement to curtail military spending and end the wars that have defined an entire generation of American lives. Honor our veterans today and tomorrow work toward a more perfect union deserving of our brave people in uniform.
