• I’m just gonna say it. The first 10-15 minutes dragged me in. Between that time and Over The Moon the scenes felt mediocre at best.
• I’m not the biggest fan of the pre-recorded parts but I understand they unfortunately had to use those.
• Jordan Fisher, Vanessa Hudgens, Keala Settle, Kiersey Clemons, and Brennin Hunt were amazing in every respect.
• For performing such a legacy of a show the cast did amazing. Everyone has their favorite cast and this cast had large shoes to fill, yet they did it.
• I understand that Fox had to change some lines to remove “foul” language and to meet time constraints but many of the line changes were unnecessary.
• “Take Me or Leave Me” will always be a bop.
• Angels and Mimi’s death scenes. I have watched the movie and musicals and listened to the albums hundreds of times. Tonight was the first time in four years that I cried at both death scenes. Like ugly sobs. The raw emotion the actors brought coupled with the realness of the scenes set off the waterfalls of emotions.
• The set was gorgeous. Whoever designed that did a wonderful job.
• The vocals could’ve been better, there were a lot of flats in there but honestly it was good.
• I wasn’t a fan of the prerecorded bits and I think they should’ve carried on the show with Brennin in a wheelchair.
• “Santa Fe”’s choreography.
• The choral parts. Turning such powerful songs into choral movements was one of my favorite things.
• Adam Pascal has always been my favorite Roger but after tonight Brennin has wormed himself into being another of my favorite Rogers.
• I have always hated the song “Contact” in the Broadway version but tonight gave me a new respect for it.
• Also every time the audience screamed I wanted to pay Angel to kill them too....
• Also the dig at Mark’s sweater from the broadway version gave me a good chuckle.
Honestly when I first started watching Rent:Live I was very disappointed but as it went on it was amazing. The message is still so important even 22 years later and it’s so nice to see it finally getting the recognition it deserves.
