I’ve been playing Wildstar since the closed beta, I’ve seen the ups and downs, I was there for the good news and the bad news. I had good times, bad times, awful times, and great times in the game. And I wouldn’t trade a single second of it.
Wildstar was not a perfect game, but the stuff it did well it did really damn well. The combat was fluid and fun without being too overwhelming, the holo-wardrobe costume system was intuitive, easy to use, and most important of all, shared across all characters. The housing was second to none, the music was incredible, the art style was unique, the writing could be serious and silly, the lore was easy to find, I could go on and on. At a time where MMOs struggle to stay alive, and where the successful ones all seem to share the same high-fantasy world and tab targeting combat, Wildstar stood out from the rest. Not always in a good way, but usually in a memorable way, if nothing else.
I’ve met tons of people through this game, plenty of kind and imaginative people who made the game even more fun, people who helped me run dungeons and gear up, people who built gorgeous plots, wrote beautiful stories, drew amazing art, crushed vicious foes, and so on and so on. What made Wildstar really great were all of you: the players. It’s rare to find such a passionate bunch of people, but I wouldn’t have been playing for as long as I did if it weren’t for you.
While my interest in playing Wildstar had waned for the last year or two, and I do have some regrets (I never saw the inside of a raid!), I always kept the game in my mind because of how unique and fun it was. Even now, about an hour after shutdown, I know I’ll never forget Nexus and the people I met there.
I want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who played this game, the people who created, the people who raided, the people who were content to just participate, and everyone in between. Because of people like you, Wildstar lives on in our hearts and minds.
