Rose speed-walked as fast as she could to the selected meeting location. She was really glad someone had found Bix, he’d been gone for a week, and she had worried herself sick searching for him. As she approached the spot, she spotted a young-looking man who appeared to be holding what looked to be her dog by his collar. “Excuse me, are you Yggdrasil?”

The young man nodded along as he explained himself, “Yeah, I definitely would be up for something a little calmer and more manageable. If I’m going to get any dog, I’d prefer to be able to keep them calmed down as much as possible. I’d rather not have them chasing after every small animal or mail man they see or barking all of the time..”

Rose let out a laugh, “Yeah, I hear you, the more energetic dogs are definitely less manageable. It’s very hard to predict a dog’s mannerisms before you get one, but most of them aren’t too bad. It really depends on the age you get one at, or how they were raised before you got it.”

The young man shrugged. “I’d like for them to be energetic to some degree. After all, I’d be taking on a walk every morning and again in the evening. Those walks may as well become jogs with me because I love to jog.”

Rose nodded, “Yeah, that’s true. I don’t know, I guess it really depends on the dog. Especially as they get to know you and familiarize themselves with their surroundings, the more they get used to you after you get one.”

The young man pondered Rose’s words a little. “Isn’t it true dogs often take after their masters or something like that? Is that what you’re getting at?”

Rose thought on this for a moment, before hesitantly responding. “I… I guess? I don’t know, it’s hard to explain. Some dogs are very impressionable, it’s true, but a lot of them, much like humans, think and act like their own selves.”

I’ve stayed with relatives who had them. Their barks can get annoying sometimes.“ The young man paused for a moment as he leaned back slightly, resting his head against his hands. “Ah, it’s alright.“

Rose shrugged, “Yeah, it really depends on one’s view. I know I personally prefer larger dogs, but that, of course, is because of my bias due to only ever having larger dogs.” She glanced down to Bix, who at this point was sitting next to her and really just looking around.

“Well, given what I had to put up with, I think I can deal with a larger dog. Aside from their downsides, they seem all the more tolerable compared to small dogs.“ The young man’s eyes glanced down at Bix as well before lifting back up to Rose.

The brunette rubbed his head, earning herself a glance up at her, before looking back up as well. "Yeah, most of them are at least a little calmer, and they definitely more manageable."

Having a dog could also make my daily jog or hike more exciting. Maybe, I was wrong for wanting something limited to an aquarium or a bird cage.“

“Ah, it depends on what kind of fence you have. They usually can’t climb the stereotypical wooden fences, but fences that either have gaps under them or slits between them might require mesh, or something of the sort.” Rose heard him out, before laughing a little bit, “That’s good to hear! I hope I don’t make it sound like you have to get a dog, or anything…”

“Well… I only have a chain-linked fence. Will that be a problem? I haven’t thought to replace it just yet. Even if I wanted to, I’m still currently on a lease. I don’t think I can build on my property right now.“ Yggdrasil thought to himself a little. Hearing her remark, he shook his head. “Oh… no… I get it. A dog isn’t something I… have to have. I understand that.“

"That should be alright, then, as long as you're planning to at least get a medium sized dog. Otherwise, I suggest waiting until you can at least put mesh over part of it, since I know some dogs can find their way under those kinds of fences." Rose let out a small sigh of relief, "That's good. I know I tend to get a little... overenthusiastic sometimes, so I wanted to make sure. "

“I guess it really depends on your living situation - do you have a living space big enough? Is there a large outdoor area near where you live? Could you afford the needs to care for one? There’s a lot to consider.”

Yggdrasil thought about Rose’s questions for a moment then shrugged his shoulders.

“Well, my place is pretty big. My salary more than covers the expenses I incur. Sure, I could have had an apartment but I opted for a two bedroom house instead, just in case I’d like to take on a roommate someday. Besides, I needed the extra room to store my stuff. Although the one thing I might be lacking is an outdoor area. This place is likely a little further from my home than it is for you.”

Rose listened to his response, then glanced out to the park. There were a few children and parents around the playground area, but otherwise, the area was empty. “Probably. Of course, if you lack a good outdoor area, there’s always just taking the dog on a daily walk - with all of the clustered cities nowadays, it’s a bit simpler for pet owners than to just drive to some park a few times a day. I had to move to my current house because with my current job and such, I needed him to have a constantly accessible backyard. My hours are pretty unreliable.”

Yet, he often thought of them being more on the unruly side, being easily led astray by the mere appearance of small woodland creatures or cats. “Well, it is a possibility. May, I had it all wrong about dogs. Although I’d still prefer something I could keep in a tank or cage most of the time.“

“Pretty much. He’s a bit more clingy than the average dog, I think,” Rose huffed with amusement, taking a glance down at him, and found him looking back up at her. She ruffled his head before continuing, “Nah, I get it, dogs aren’t for everybody, it’s fine.”

“Ah… I heard dogs have a tendency to pick up traits of their own. Then again, I’ve heard the same for other pets, even some kinds of fish.“ The young man glanced down at the dog about the same time as Rose did. As much as he didn’t want to, Yggdrasil found it hard not to smirk as she ruffled the dog’s head.

“Yeah… I just prefer something that can’t run freely through the house and… get into stuff they’re not supposed to get into. Then again, I’ll likely have a child someday and well… from what I’ve heard, they’re quite similar in that regard.“

“Yeah, they’re a bit like us in that regard, don’t you think?” She questioned. Rose then proceeded to grin at his next statement, “Yeah... Kids and large pets definitely seem like a double-edged sword. I don’t know about the kids, but I know dogs are absolutely worth it, at least for me.”

I’d tried to find someone else to take them off my hands.“ The Urseus stood there as he heard the rest of her statement then added, “Well, he must have gotten lost because he showed at my doorstep a couple days later looking worn out.”

“I completely understand, I used to be the same way. Then a little puppy showed up on my family’s doorstep about.. jeez, maybe ten or fifteen years ago, and the rest is history.” Rose glanced down to the dog in question, “It’s really wierd, usually he’s super attached to me and refuses to leave my side. I wonder what made him run out? I guess that doesn’t matter, as long as he’s back now. I don’t think I can thank you enough.”

The large man playfully rolled his eyes. He didn’t want to believe it but there was a possibility. He had found a little attachment to the dog, despite how annoying he often was. Yggdrasil glanced down at the dog for a moment and sighed, “Don’t dogs often chase squirrels, cats, and other smaller animals?”
