Flower Thief

Just like all the other times it happened, his desire to visit the cemetery came unplanned. It had been over a year since that tombstone was erected there, yet Grant Ward was no closer to accepting its existence. But every once in a while, there came a time when the past was just too fast to run from, and he found it catching up to him, the darkness engulfing him whole. When times like this came, the urge to visit Karaâs grave was just too strong to resist. It was too strong that he knew if he didnât succumb to it, the pain will eat him up from the inside. Â
He really didnât mean to do it. Stealing flowers wasnât his thing, but on the way to the graveyard, there really werenât any flower shops he could slip into and buy a bouquet from. That, and the flowers were really beautiful. Whoever tended to them obviously had green thumbs. The garden wasnât the only one in the neighbourhood but it certainly had the most beautiful flowers among all the othersâ, so he just thought that him taking the flowers was some form of compliment.
Head looking up through the windows, then to the left, and lastly to the right, to make sure that he would not be found, he carefully picked some daisies, making sure the spots he took them from were far apart so as to not make it obvious that some had been stolen. He had been too distracted with the task and the thoughts running through his mind that he didnât notice someone close by, someone whoâd seen him, someone whoâd found out what he had done quite a few times in the past.
Skye needed a break from everything. Over the past year, she had helped Coulson build a team of anonymous Inhumans- people with special abilities beyond anything the human mind could comprehend. The training was going well, everyone seemed happy. Too happy. They had all bounced back from trauma of the attack quickly, and no one seemed to have given it a second thought. Skye, on the other hand, felt as if the weight on her shoulders only grew heavier as time passed. Throwing herself into the new program and her work had helped for a while, but it wasnât going to last forever and she knew it.
Recognizing that truth was what led her here. To a safe house set up by Coulson for Skye to take a âvacationâ. The small house was beautiful, cozy, and tucked away from the crazy world. It was calming, but she also found herself alone with her thoughts far more often then she had intended. It was still a SHIELD facility, and there were small reminders everywhere, especially in the garden. Some SHIELD agent must have tried to be thoughtful when they had planted up the large bed of beautiful daisies, but to Skye it was just a bitter reminder of everything she had lost.
Staring out the window of the door, lost in the shadows of the house, she glared at the flowers. She wasnât Daisy anymore. Â The time she had spent with her parents seemed like a dream, the flowers were just a symbol of a time that had slipped away too quickly. Lost in her thoughts, she didnât see the pedestrian approaching her garden, until daisies started to shake and move. Blinking, she moved to the screen and stared at the man who was breaking the flowers from their stems as if he were a ghost.
When her mind finally registered the face across the yard from her, her body flew into flight mode. Panic flooded her system, as she slammed the door and bolted it shut. It couldnât be. Not there. Not now. The panic faded to anger. How dare he, of all people, ruin the peace she was trying to find. Stealing the daisies... it was as if he was trying to steal every last shred of her identity and that infuriated her.
