dean never got rid of his dad’s leather jacket. he doesn’t wear it, no, he stopped doing that around the time he realised that he only used it as a reminder of what john wanted him to be, and he doesn’t want to be that guy anymore. it just hangs out in his trunk for a while. he can’t quite bear to throw it out or box it up. old habits die hard.

And then claire forgets a coat for a hunt he’s helping her out on, and he starts to channel every good dad in the world: “are you kidding me claire?? we’re hunting a ghoul in the middle of the night in MARCH in minnESOTA but you’re gonna get ganked by friggin hypothermia?? HERE.” and he just shoves it at her. It’s not meant to mean anything at all, but it feels right, because it’s not like when it was handed to him. It’s not being handed over with the burden of responsibility and ridiculous expectations, there’s no looming threat of disappointment. it’s just love. And it looks good on her, a bit too long in the arms. Perfect to hide a blade. she looks like him.

for a second, dean has to close his eyes. then he leans back against the impala, and they go over the plan for tonight. she’s good. when she’s not looking, he takes a picture to send to cas. he’d like this.

i still can’t believe spn writers had the option to make the show phenomenal and beyond what we’d usually expect of them with a good and well-deserved ending for ALL the characters but they instead decided to go down in history as a clown show and join star wars and game of thrones in the bad endings bucket.
