When Hope is Lost

When discouragement hits you,

And your soul gets so weak,

Heavy is the burden inside,

Which makes you want to quit.

“I wanna give up, “ says the soul.

“Press on. I’m not done with you yet.

A Cup of Coffee with GOD

Conversation with GOD over coffee…

Me: So God, what was it all about?

GOD (getting a sip of His coffee): Do you have to know everything?

Me: I know it was part of Your plan, and You have a purpose for everything that has happened… ummm.. but I just wanna know why it had to be that way?

GOD: For my thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, and My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. (Getting another sip of His coffee)

Me: But why? (My attitude again of being persistent)

GOD: You said you trust Me. Do you really trust Me?

Me: Yes (responding with a childlike heart).

GOD: You know what I was trying to teach you, right?

Me: Yes… but not all. What I know is that You used me as an instrument, but at the same time molding me. Revealing things about myself which I didn’t discover before.

GOD: If I tell you everything now, would life still be meaningful?

Me: No (again responding with a childlike heart).

GOD: Then be at rest. And wait until you see what I want to accomplish.

Me: Awww, c’mon God. Please? Can you give me just a little hint?

GOD: You are very persistent indeed.

Me: (smiling at Him) Ok, GOD. :-) I’ll wait on You. But I’m still gonna ask You about this one day.

GOD: Haha! I know you will. But for now just wait and watch Me do the amazing thing you have been waiting for. (With a big smile and a wink) ;-)

His Promise Today Set for the Future

GOD gave Abraham a promise. - a son. - many descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. - and a promise that He will give his descendants the land which the Lord showed Him.

GOD gave him not just a single promise, but many promises.

The Lord even promised Abraham this,

“Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.” - Genesis 15:1

And GOD made a covenant with Abraham that He will fulfill His promise.

“The Lord made a covenant with Abraham, saying, ‘To your descendants I HAVE GIVEN this land..’” - Genesis 15:18 TAKE notice…

"I WILL GIVE THIS LAND” - this is what GOD said to Abraham in Genesis 12:7

“I HAVE GIVEN THIS LAND” - this is what GOD said when He made a covenant to Abraham in Genesis 15:18

What do these verses say about His promise?

GOD already knows the BIGGER PICTURE. It was already in His plan. He sees everything. He sees the beginning and the end. He knows the FUTURE.

Seeking GOD

Do I seek GOD simply because I want to know His plan for my life? Or do I seek Him because I want to deepen my relationship with Him more.

Do I seek Him simply because I want answers to all my prayers? Or do I seek Him because I want to know the desires of His heart.

Do I seek Him simply to refocus my life, and to know which path or road to take? Or do I seek Him because I want to know Him more and His character, And fulfill His purpose.

Do I seek Him to simply understand my pursuits in life or to know my higher calling? Or do I seek Him because I want to know the greatness of GOD or His awesome wonder.

Do I seek Him simply to accomplish my agenda in life? Or do I seek Him because I want Him to show me great and mighty things which I do not know (Jeremiah 33:3), which is far more awesome than my own agenda and pursuit.

Do I seek Him simply because of my needs? Or do I seek Him because I want to know more about my Jehovah Jireh.

Do I seek Him simply because I feel empty inside? Or do I seek Him because I long for Him, and I long for His presence more than any other.

Do I seek Him simply because I want Him to reveal the iniquities of my heart? Or do I seek Him because I want to know the heart of GOD.

Do I seek Him because He loves me? Or do I seek Him because I love Him, and I want to be more intimate with Him.

Who’s with Me …..

FAITH WITHOUT FAINTING

“Yet those who wait for the LORD

Will gain new strength;

They will mount up with wings like eagles,

They will run and not get tired,

They will walk and not become weary.” - Isaiah 40:31 (“.. they will walk and not faint.” - NLT)

Many of us, in the pursuit of GOD’s promises and direction for our lives, grow weary waiting.

We get tired seeking because we don’t see the hand of GOD in our current circumstance.

Yet that is what FAITH is - “Faith is the assurance of things HOPED for, the convictions of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).

GOD gives us a vision, a calling, a dream, a Promise.

He impressed these things in our hearts in our early walk with Him as a Christian - an intimate walk - not a walk of complacency.

And as we sojourn, GOD continuously reminds us of His vision, His dreams, His promises -

for us to continuously seek Him and search Him with all our hearts, souls and minds.

The vision, the dream – they can be blurry at the start .

Like a puzzle, you only have a certain piece and not see the whole picture.

Yet what you have as you continuously seek Him, something which is certain and unchanging

and cannot be tampered, is His Promise which He had said in the beginning.

The fulfillment of the vision, the dream coming into fruition comes after many years of that journey of faith.

And I guess that is the reason why they call it a JOURNEY OF FAITH

because you don’t stop seeking, you don’t stop searching.

You press on, you continue your intimate walk with Him.

You persevere despite seeing the odds or experiencing uncertainties.

You press on.

You continue your walk – a walk of prayer, fasting and seeking –

filled with HOPE and ASSURANCE that GOD will fulfill His vision, His dream for your life.

And as He said in Isaiah 46:11b "I have said what I would do, and I will do it.”

The Prideful Heart

“… a true Jew is one whose heart is right with GOD. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a CHANGE of HEART produced by the Spirit. And a person with a CHANGED HEART seeks PRAISE from GOD, not from people.” - Romans 2:29

There is real transformation. True circumcision. It is not merely obedience, but transformation. The result of that obedience is transformation through the power of the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is more than just an overflow. It’s a lifestyle – that is, it is lived through out – daily. Truth applied. Word applied. It is lived out.

And a change heart seeks praise from GOD, not from people (v29:b). His desire is not to please men, but to please GOD.

The heart has a tendency to become proud because of the knowledge one has gained overtime. It becomes boastful; full of pride. It has a tendency to look down on others; and we sometimes praise ourselves for thinking highly of ourselves over others.

Is it human nature? How does one remain humble?

And Christians are not exempted from this. We become biblically intellectual; we gain so much knowledge overtime. We learn GOD’s truth, but we become like the Pharisees, too because of our prideful and self-righteous heart.

God, how do we avoid that? We become great with theology; we pride about knowing apologetics and other theological terms. What has happened to the heart?

The once child-like heart – one who is pliant, teachable, innocent, obedient, a heart that listens attentively. What has happened to that heart? We grow in our knowledge, yes. We grow spiritually, but we too become offenders to others who know little about Christ because of spiritual pride.

What are we building on? Is it our relationship with GOD? Or is it our mind – to fill it with theological truths but not practicing them?

Jesus, no wonder Paul tells us to fix our eyes on You. Our example – One who knows all yet is humble. You are a King, yet You lived with the outcast. You chose Your disciples not among the people with rank; but You chose fishermen and tax collectors, and even prostitutes. They were not highly educated. But You used them mightily. You used them to share the Gospel. They were not to boast about themselves.

“He chose what the world looks down on and despises and thinks is nothing, in order to destroy what the world thinks is important.” - 1 Corinth 1:28

They didn’t think highly of themselves, but they were were to proclaim GOD’s truth. The glory, honor and praise were for GOD, and not for them. Who was their focus? It was You, Jesus and not themselves.

Life is not about us. It is all about Him.
