WARNINGS: mentions of blood.
It was that time of year againâfinals. That meant one of two things; 1, that you and Jinyoung were holed up in your respective dorm rooms studying your energy away, or 2, that you were holed up together, pretending to study your energy away. However this year youâd decided to take a road trip with your mom before starting your intense study-sessions, leaving Jinyoung to his own devices for the next 2 days.
It was day one of âJinyoungâs 14 day cramming programmeâ (as he liked to call it) and so far he had managed to make it to 2am running on 1 cup of double shot iced americano. Just as he was about to call it a night, his phone began to vibrate on his bedside table causing him to drop his pen haphazardly on the desk to go answer it.
When he saw the silly photo of the two of you flashing on his screen, he immediately swiped right, bringing the phone to his ear.
âHey! Howâs your road trip going?â he asked excitedly, plopping down onto his bed.
âJinyoungâŚâ you whimpered through the receiver sending Jinyoung straight to his feet, his face scrunched up in concern.
â(Y/N)? (Y/N) whatâs wrong?â he panicked, hand already searching for his car keys.
âI donât- I donât know what happened! One minute we were laughing about something on- on the radio and then there were these bright lights and a crashing noise and-â you couldnât continue, your sobs wracking your whole body as you slid to the floor in the emergency room hallway.
âWhere are you?â the worry in his voice making you cry even harder, guilty that you were pulling him into all of this.
âChaeil General.â you whispered shakily, hiccuping after every breath.
âIâm coming over there okay?â he told you as he shoved his feet into his converse, âHave you called Ji Suk?â
The mention of your boyfriend made you feel uncomfortable, not because you didnât want him thereâin fact you had already thought about calling himâbut you had gotten into a big fight the night before and it seemed like your relationship was already hanging on its last string.
âWe uhm,â you sniffled, wiping frustratedly at the tears still falling, âweâre fighting.â you grunted finally, flashbacks of the stupid fight making its way into your mind.
There was a pause from Jinyoungâs end before you heard his door opening and shutting. âWell Iâll be there soon okay? Do you want me to stay on the phone?â he asked softly, ignoring the strange pulling his chest from knowing he was the person you were calling at a time like this.
âNo, drive safely. But fast⌠please get here fast.â you said as sternly as you could before hanging up, gently putting your phone down beside you and burying your face into your hands.
Your mind was instantly filled with images from an hour ago; the blood, the screaming, the sobbing. You had left the crash site barely scathed but the impact had been almost entirely on your momâs side of the car. You had never been more scared in your life and now you were feeling twice as terrified. Your mom was the only family member you had left and the thought of losing her was just too much to bear. Your body shook as you began crying again, the pain in your chest intensifying the longer you thought about it.
It wasnât long before you felt a pair of strong arms wrap themselves around you, pulling you into their chest. You didnât need to look up to know who it was, and knowing that he was there with you made everything seem just a little bit brighter.
âYou came.â you stated weakly, your eyes closing to try and dull the stinging.
âOf course I did. I would never let you go through this alone.â he murmured into your hair, stroking the side of your head gently.
âThey donât know if sheâll make it.â you whimpered pathetically, fisting his sweater in your cold hands.
Jinyoung seemed to freeze, a soft sigh escaping his lips before he pulled away from you to observe your face. Carefully he wiped the remnants of your tears away before pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. Your heart was beating a hundred miles a minute as he stayed there, letting the moment set in before pulling away and sending you a soft smile, your face still between his palms.
âIâm not going to tell you itâs all going to be okay, because I donât know that and itâs not going to help,â he began slowly, eyes locked hypnotisingly on yours as you stared back at him, âWhat I will tell you, and will tell you again later, is that youâre not alone. For as long as Iâm alive and breathing, there will not be a moment in your life where you are alone. Not spiritually anyway. I will never leave your side. So whatever happens next, we will get through this. Not you, we. Okay?â
His words stilled you, your heart melting as he pulled you back into his chest. Suddenly you werenât so scared anymore.
âMs. (Y/L/N)?â a voice called from behind you, pulling you out of your momentary haze. The nurse smiled apologetically, hand holding a towel and a small toiletries bag, before nodding toward one of the hallways. âItâs going to be a while until the surgery is over so would you like to take a bath whilst you wait?â
âI donât⌠I donât have any clothes to change into.â you explained hesitantly, taking the things in her hands from her.
âI brought you some.â Jinyoung said suddenly, reaching behind him to produce a small backpack. You gave him a confused look before he explained sheepishly, âI didnât know whether you were hospitalised too or not so I brought some clothes to change into in case I needed to stay the night.â
Your heart swelled, extremely grateful to have someone like Jinyoung in your life.
âThe shower rooms are down that way on the right.â the nurse informed you before walking back behind the counter.
You blanked out for a moment, not really sure what you were supposed to do next when you felt a hand on your lower back, turning your attention to the boy sat beside you.
âHey⌠letâs get you cleaned up, hm?â he urged you gently, helping you to your feet and towards the shower room.
