"I could tell as muchâŠ" Ci said, her lips pursued. "Where are you from, Sarah Jane?" The womanâs name sounded foreign in her mouth.Â
"London," Sarah said. "Iâve come a long way, as you can see. Just visiting. What is your name?"
"London.." She rolled the word around with her tongue. "Think I may have been there before actually." Ci stared at the woman some more, "How id you get in my closet?" She asked, ignoring the question.Â
"I don't like when training is interrupted. What do you want?"
Only this time Charlie Chaplin was Elwood Blues. Jim would change characters up every so often to keep his job different each time. As well as be ready to fill in for different roles. Rolling in the famous âBluesmobileâ with âJakes Bluesâ and the Peter Gunn theme song roaring from the roof mountain loudspeaker. The duo was driving from the hidden garage down the streets of Universal to a New York Street stage for the Blues Brothers Revue.
The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail. The band was jumpinâ and the joint began to swing. You shouldâve heard those knocked out jailbirds sing. Letâs rock, everybody, letâs rock. Everybody in the whole cell block was dancinâ to the Jailhouse Rock. Spider Murphy played the tenor saxophone, Little Joe was blowinâ on the slide trombone. The drummer boy from Illinois went crash, boom, bang, the whole rhythm section was the Purple Gang. Letâs rock, everybody, letâs rock. Everybody in the whole cell block was dancinâ to the Jailhouse Rock. Number forty-seven said to number three: âYouâre the cutest jailbird I ever did see. I sure would be delighted with your company, come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me.â Letâs rock, everybody, letâs rock. Everybody in the whole cell block was dancinâ to the Jailhouse Rock. The sad sack was a sittinâ on a block of stone way over in the corner weepinâ all alone. The warden said, âHey, buddy, donât you be no square. If you canât find a partner use a wooden chair.â Letâs rock, everybody, letâs rock. Everybody in the whole cell block was dancinâ to the Jailhouse Rock. Shifty Henry said to Bugs, âFor Heavenâs sake, no oneâs lookinâ, nowâs our chance to make a break.â Bugsy turned to Shifty and he said, âNix nix, I wanna stick around a while and get my kicks.â Letâs rock, everybody, letâs rock. Everybody in the whole cell block was dancinâ to the Jailhouse Rock.
Ci hummed along to the sound blaring around her, oblivious to Jim's connection to it. She walked to where she had met 'Charlie' the previous day, but was disappointed. Before long, the woman began to ask around for Charlie.Â
Ci smile, cute name. âOh it doesnât matter, so much as set you apart. Anyway, the objective of this conversation was to try to form a sort of alliance with the Shawnee people and my crew. We wonât ask of much, just shelter if weâre near your land. Youâll get the same in return, of course. â
The Shawnee womanâs eyes narrowed slightly. So thatâs what this is aboutâŠ. âAnd what reason would I have to accept this offer? What authority do I have? I am no chief or even an elder. Who on earth would listen to me?â
"Well I had hoped that you would suggest my offer to your chief. Or someone he would listen to. Perhaps, even arrange between me and him a meeting?"

Although it wasnât entirely necessary, Ci felt the fastest means of escape would be back out the window. Without giving Jim much, or any, time to respond to the change in situation, the thief was out of the apartment and sprinting home. All this happened so quick, however, that she accidentally left her bag full of Jimâs, and many of her own, things behind the clock.Â
"Remember if you take too much of one thing, sooner or later itâll be taken back!" He called out to her. Spotting the bag he began to sort through his belongings..and finding some of Ciâs. "So your name is Ching Shih.." It didnât ring a bell but he found her weapons, list of targets, and other things she would likely need.
"Look like youâll be back sooner than you think."
Breathless, Ci finally made it to her ship. It wasn't unusual for her to be returning 'home' so late, so she attracted to odd looks as she walked to her cabin. Although she was now in her own bed, she was in a completely different world. She thought of this strange man and his sad life and his ability to make her empathetic and how he coaxed her easily in to speaking of her past. The woman could not believe that she'd not stolen anything, in fact she left her whole bag the- "Shit!" Ci exclaimed upon realizing this fact.Â
She threw her head in to her pillow. Looks liked she'll have to see Charlie Chaplin again.Â

As Jenny pressed the button on her vortex manipulator, every zoomed and whizzed and changed as she suddenly felt herself materialize. Well wherever she was, it was darkâŠ
Closing her eyes she tried using her other senses to determine where she could be. The floor was wood so she was in something man-made. Taking a deep whiff, she noted the strong musky odor⊠Basement or storage place of sorts. Than the gravity itself, it was swaying.
'Boat?' she thought. Fumbling around, she tried to find a door.
Ci was drawing maps, a hated, but necessary pass time of the captain. This one was coming along, slowly, when suddenly one of her crew members came barreling in to her cabin.Â
"CAPTAINOHEARGODITWASTERRIBLEOHGODIT'SDAVEYJONESHIMSELFWE'REALLDEADOHGAWWW-" The man started, his composure as distressed as his raggedy clothing.Â
"Slow down, damnit. What the hell are you speakin of?" The captain responded, her curiosity hidden by her resting bitch face. The other crew member's fear of his captain overtook his fear of whatever had made the commotion in the mop closet. "Something has happened, you might want to come and take a look." As they made their way to the scene, he filled Ci in on the "horrible noises" and "the blinding light' and the rest of the details.Â
Finally, the captain was before the closet door. Motioning to her crew to ready their weapons she asked, "Who's in there?"Â

"Not a rough life. Just one thatâs taught me lessons others are yet to learn." Ci said, her voice hardly as sincere as she intended. "And my parents, they were not bad people. Trust me, Iâve had a life many others would envy. " Â
"I can say my life taught me some lessons, I wonder how different they may be though. Considering our chosen career pathsâŠ" He replied. "What kind of a life can be for a person who was pretty much sold?"

Ci narrowed her eyes at him. âYou have this personality like diamond, ya know that?â She asked, the sympathy in her eyes becoming disbelief. âYouâre so flawless and charming and completely transparent, but in your perfection, you almost appear too good to exist as you are, so people mistake you for crystal. â As the woman said this, she really had no idea what she was saying, or really why she was saying it at all. âI mistook you for crystal, and Iâm sorry for that.â The thief added for good measure.Â
All he could do was raise an eyebrow at what she was saying. âI have no idea what you just said, too be honest usually Iâm the one with the obscure saying.â He replied, joking about himself.
"Wait, wait, waitâŠ.You were sold by your parents? Damn I thought I had the worse parentsâŠ" He said to himself and looked at her. "Now Iâm sorryâŠ" For what he didnât figure out.
"Was it really that rough of a life for you to tell me things in such obscurity?"

"Call me CiâŠ" The woman responded, her voice steady. "Thatâs⊠unimportant. As I  said earlier your feature suggest you my be Sawnee⊠Am I correct?"
"Alison," she replied, "although I prefer Allie or my tribal name: Alsoomse." She gazed at Ci, trying to connect the dots. How could she be missing this? Something wasnât adding up in her head. "And yes, you are correctâŠ. Iâve got to admit, I donât think Iâve ever been in a situation where that mattered in a certain situation."

Ci was taken aback by this womanâsâŠÂ enthusiasm. "Yea, Iâm a real swashbuckling rogue, sorry I forgot my peg leg at home. " The pirate narrowed her eyes and studied Sarah. "But, now that you know what I am, I am very curious as to who you are. Youâve not called for guards to hang me so you must be, how should I say it, different?"
Sarah smiled, than shook her head. âOh yes you could definitely say different. You see, Iâm not exactly from around here,â Sarah said. âMy name is Sarah Jane. Nice to meet you!â

Ci nodded, her face the picture of empathy, as Jim told his story. When he showed her the scars, all breath left her body. Now, as a professional âbad guyâ Ci was no stranger to scars, nor did the sight of one make her terribly squeamish, but for some reasons this manâs marks affected her. Perhaps, it was because they made his story real. Someone so damned happy all the time just couldnât have lived through marks like thoseâŠÂ
 "Ther.." She stopped herself, not wanted to speak when she was so lost for words. With a deep breath, she began again.  "Iâm so sorry." The response felt dumb to her, but she couldnât find anything else tâo say.Â
Jim shook his head and sat down next to her. âI umâŠItâs okayâŠReally too be honest I am the kind of a guy that would take a bullet for someone. So Iâm alright with the fact you choose to try to rob from me and not someone elseâŠâ He replied running a hand through his hair.
"Hey, I told you my storyâŠthanks. It means it gets easier each time I tell itâŠWhat about your own life?"

"My story..." She started, hoping he'd change his mind and choose a new topic last minute. She was not so lucky. "Umm... Ruined my 'rents life too. They really wanted a boy. But um, badabingbadaboom I grew up, sort of got sold to some dude as a bride-wasn't a cool guy so I left and some other stuff happened so now I'm here. Stealing for you. An actual real life saint." Her voice throughout the whole 'story' was light and cheerful, as though she was speaking of Disney and pastries.Â

"Are youâŠa pirate?"
"Oh hun, I am  much more than thatâŠ"
"Really?" Sarah asked. "Thatâs amazing! Iâve never met a pirate."
Ci was taken aback by this woman's... enthusiasm. "Yea, I'm a real swashbuckling rogue, sorry I forgot my peg leg at home. " The pirate narrowed her eyes and studied Sarah. "But, now that you know what I am, I am very curious as to who you are. You've not called for guards to hang me so you must be, how should I say it, different?"
Ci bit her lip, this dude was born waaaaay after his time. With a giggle she said, âNo, the Jeremy Sumpter and Jason Isaacs oneâŠ?â She doubted Jim had seen it so she continued without waiting for a response. âAnyway you asked about me, I guess I can be described the way a little kid would describe Peter, or the way an adult would describe Hook.â  She didnât enjoy talking about herself so she tried to make all her personal biographical statements vague and hard to understand.  âHowever..â The thief continued, â Iâve become very interested in your storyâŠ? Will you indulge me?â
"Oh you mean the one from 2003? I think I saw it when it first came out, though I donât remember it much." Jim replied quickly as Ci went on. "So does that mean youâre a pirate or a modern equivalent?" He replied with a sly wink.
"There is not much really to say, my parents were deadbeat leftovers the hippie era and drunks. When I was born I apparently ruined their lives so they dumped me at an institution. The nuns there made âThe Penguinâ from Blues Brothers look like a saint!" He began.
"Anyway myself and the others would be beat for the smallest reasons, like we forgot to tuck our beds in.." With that he rolled up a sleeve to show how big the scars on him can be. "When I was five I managed to break through a hole like on Alcatraz and ran for Coney Island. There I saw my first old movie âCharlie Chaplinâs The Kidâ. There I laughed for the first timeâŠ"

Once he mentioned Charlie being his first. non-horrible experience, Jim made a whole lot more sense to her. It was like the man finally found sanctuary and now, to this day, he's become it for others. God knows, that was the charm her worked on her earlier that day.Â

Ci noticed Alsoomseâs change in demeanor. âIt isnât so much something to say as it is something to ask⊠Iâd like a treaty. Between your people and mine.âÂ
"I beg your pardon." Alsoomse quirked an eyebrow. She wracked her brain trying to recall what this woman was on about. She didnât even know who her people was, although she obviously knew who Alsoomseâs were. "Care to elaborate? Your name would help, too."
"Call me Ci..." The woman responded, her voice steady. "That's... unimportant. As I Â said earlier your feature suggest you my be Sawnee... Am I correct?"
