Brady felt a wave of relief when the man agreed to share the cab and she sank into the seat with a clear look of graciousness. “Totally fine. I’ll cover both of our fees, it’s really no big deal,” she promised with a half shake of her head, already digging into her wallet to grab some cash out. Money was one of the few things Brady had to worry about in life, her hard work over the years having paid off in spades when it came to her personal finances. “I’m not too ah…too far out, though. My office is over in the Shoreditch area?” Office was a bit of an understatement, considering how much space the company now took up. From a small flat to a series of warehouses, the company had burgeoned in growth in the last year, a fact that Brady was endlessly proud of. “Whereabouts are you headed to?” Brady asked, cringing slightly at her own deeply Southern accent. Despite being away from Arkansas for years, the twang worked it’s way into her voice more often than she’d have liked.

Aidan was relieved to hear that she was only heading to Shoreditch, he was catching up with his suspect near Liverpool Station, so the travel time would be brief between their two stops. “In that case, we’ll split the fee, I’m only going a few minutes further than you are.” He admitted lowly, glancing out the window as they manoeuvred through the familiar streets of London. “I’m just heading to Spitalfields.” The detective was surprised that this was the first time something like this had happened to him. He’d lived in London his entire life and had somehow managed to get by with his own cabs. Until now. “So, rough night or rough morning?” He questioned, looking towards the brunette. “I assume it was one or the other that led you to the stressful start you’re having.”

Some days, Brady wasn’t even sure how she managed to keep herself alive. After waking up and realizing she had no food in the house, thirty minutes before her first meeting of the day, and a lost pair of keys, Brady knew it was just going to be one of those days. Were it not for the fact that she was hungry, she likely would have called off the meeting and just stayed in bed, but food was a sound motivator for Brady. Rushing out of the house with her hair a mess and various things halfway falling out of her bag, Brady jogged across the street to hop into the first cab she could find. Uber and any other ride apps were a no for Brady, who trusted them very little. Not, of course, that a cab was really any better, but the established history of them made her feel slightly more secure with her decision. Tossing her stuff into the cab and vaulting in, Brady looked up with a groan when she realized that someone had just started to get in from the other side. “Fuck. I’ll pay the fee if we can share it. I’m like. Mad late right now,” she pleaded with the other person, her eyes imploring them to cut her a break on a morning that just wasn’t going her way.

When it came to pursuing a case, the pace of it could vary. Some cases seemed to drag on infuriatingly, the evidence remaining hidden in the darkest corner of the deepest pit, trying it’s hardest not to be revealed. Other times, like today, the possibilities were endless, the suspects clear from almost the first moment. That’s where he was headed. Out to have a chat with someone who was almost definitely guilty. With a coffee in one hand, he raised the other to flag down a taxi, moving to get in just as a seemingly stressed woman began throwing her things in from the other side. Luckily for her, his interview wasn’t on a time schedule. “You’ve got yourself a deal, although, if you take me out to Stratford or something then you’re paying more than half.” He commented lowly, sliding into his side of the cab and closing the door firmly behind him. “Where are we headed?”

ABOUT

Aidan has spent the entirety of his life in London. He lives and breaths the city, the crisp winter mornings, the sweltering summer days, the bleak dampness of the rain that showers down in endless torrents, or at least, that’s what it feels like to the detective after weeks of leaving the precinct in those conditions. But regardless of that, his work is his life. From a young age he knew he wanted to be involved in law enforcement. After all, it was in his blood. His Father had been the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police London for years, only recently did he retire. His brothers much like himself, followed in their Father’s footsteps as well, all three boys working in the police force. As a kid, his Father was constantly busy, he’d lost count of how many soccer games and school events that he’d missed out on because he had work commitments, but he never resented him for it. Aidan knew that he was committing himself to an excellent cause and he was positive he would be doing the same thing eventually.

Following graduation from high school Aidan attended university. It was a personal goal, he knew he wanted to be part of the police force but he also wanted to achieve some form of academic credit before that, so he studied a Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine, earning him skills which he still uses in the police force. Following on from that he immediately applied for the police force, and underwent all the training that went with it after being accepted. It was a difficult process but one that he thrived in.

From there he climbed the ranks, earning himself a position as a homicide detective, something he’d been aspiring to for quite some time. He enjoyed the problem solving aspect of a case, piecing the information together until it all culminated in a result. A result that led to justice.

In his field he dealt with a lot of shocking evidence, things that your normal everyday person would never have to expose themselves to. As a result, he didn’t sleep well. Not just from the things he’d seen, but because he struggled to silence his brain. He was constantly trying to figure things out, see evidence in everything he’d come across. This distraction is what made him a terrible romantic partner, he knew he wasn’t suited for a serious relationship and he didn’t allow himself to get in to deep with any woman. He was terrified of what his job would do to them if he did end up in a relationship. His line of work was dangerous, and he refused to put someone he loved through that. Not after Emily. After an altercation with a suspect, Aidan came home to her bloodied and bruised, refusing to go to hospital. She’d tried to force him and he’d lashed out at her, not physically, he would never, but he did shout. As a result, she tried to make him promise to be safe in his job, but he knew that wasn’t possible. After that, he had to end things. It was the only fair thing to do.

PERSONALITY

Aidan is a determined man. His work is everything to him and as a result he can come across distant or reserved, sometimes stubborn. He doesn’t take nonsense from anyone, and when he gives a genuine smile it’s often a surprise to everyone. Despite this, he’s incredibly loyal to his family, they’re his life since he’s decided to distance himself from relationships. So, he supports them through and through.
