“We’re in nature, Maia, there’s plenty of ‘pets’-” the boy made quotation marks in the air, “- around. Although, I’ve been here for 3 months and still can’t get used to the bugs... everything is trying to kill me here.”

Hadley’s smile only grew as he continued to talk about his class, it was without a doubt the cutest thing she’d ever heard him say. “You’ll live without them because you’ll know that you were just the first step for them to continue on to greatness…and also, you will get to meet a bunch of new adorable and defiantly crazy little people next year.”

"I guess that's true.." the boy trailed off, kicking into a pebble, "you just... get so grown to them, you know? Letting kids go is.. hard for me."

"If you're trying to kill your customers–," Aiden coughed as he tried to find a glass of water, "–then it's great."

“You’re lying, I didn’t do that….Aiden.” Zach covered his face in embarrassment for a moment and flashed him a smile. “I’m sorry for that. At least you finally got to see your boyfriend absolutely trashed.” he shook his head before eating a forkful of eggs Aiden prepared for him. “Why are you so far away from me? Come sit in bed, your bed that i’m actually in finally.” he said teasingly as he smirked at the boy.

"It was certainly an experience," Aiden smiled and finished his cup of tea, setting it down on his bedside table. "You were so handsy last night it took forever to get you to sleep, I'm scared you'll keep me hostage again." He had tried to keep a serious expression but eventually let out a chuckle and slid in beside Zach, letting his head fall onto his shoulder. "I miss the days I could just get drunk like that..."

“I’m not completely sure how I ended up here last night but thanks for being the only one out of a million people I probably drunk text last night….and for letting me crash here.”

"You literally leaned on the doorbell for a good 3 minutes straight and sang Whitney Houston until I let you in," Aiden chuckled, leaning against the doorframe with a cup of tea. "Mi casa es su casa, or at least, now it is. I don't know why I haven't invited you over before..." Aiden knew the exact reason but took a drink of his tea instead, looking at the tired boy leaning over a plate of greasy eggs he had made him.

"Never. What's a pot of that worth? Like 10? 15 dollars? Reckon it's a small price to pay to keep my luscious locks."

“That’s reassuring.” She teased, “Hopefully the ocean will be on our side today.” Hadley quickly added, a smile on her lips. Looking at him while he spoke she laughed, “I feel like this may be a little late, but congratulations on all your children, you must be pretty busy.” She couldn’t even imagine being in charge of that many children all at once. “Your kids are lucky to have you, you know? Having teachers who love their job is one of the best things to ever happen to my scholastic career.” 

"Thank you," a genuine smile radiated off of him, a rare one. "They're not my first class, but they are the first I'm this attached to.. they're going to big school next year, can you believe it? These little munchkins with their tiny lunchboxes and socks too long for their tiny feet... How will I live without them?"

“Well you also don’t have long hair, its probably more common in people with longer hair because you know more to get stuck into. But if you like soak your head in oil it counters it basically, I said baby oil so you would smell nice after less like glue. Or you could try waiting it out, glue is non-toxic”

"Guess I'll add baby oil to my grocery list," Aiden laughed but quickly surpressed it as his mind started wandering. Baby oil, as he imagined, was around the childcare section of store. Seeing all those baby things probably wouldn't have a great affect on him, especially seeing a cute toddler outfit. "Is there like an alternative to baby oil? For like.. adults?"

Thanking him as he held the door for her she laughed and shook her head. “I’m glad you think so, I’m really just banking on the idea that if I say it out loud that it may actually happen.” Tucking her hair behind her ear she looked over at the boy, “How’s work been going?” She asked as they walked.

"It all depends on the ocean, even the best surfers get hammered into the ground." What had originally started as a joke soon turned into a sad realisation for him, staying silent for a few seconds. "It's nice, tiring as always, but I love them all so much. I'm a proud dad of 30."

echo managed another small chuckle, before giving a small shrug of his shoulders, “i have to admit that it might be a little bit funny. i do feel like some hot water and lots of scrubbing should do the trick, though. also think I’ve read somethin’ about leave in conditioner?”

"leave-in conditioner," aiden echoed, "so I have to buy a whole tub of some product I'm never gonna use again. worth it."

”yeah, cocky too,” zion snaps playfully, rolling his eyes at the others comment. it feels oddly comforting to him however and he hopes its more of a case that HE’S more nervous than she will be. “i really hope so. you know, i don’t know how you do it. like — raising evelyn can be so difficult at times, don’t get me wrong i’d never have it any other way. but it’s so stressful and i definitely wouldn’t be able to do it alone. like —— staying composed and looking after a class of children. that’s something i’d never be able to do. not the way you probably can.”

aiden rolled his own eyes at the comment, he couldn't hold back that goofy smile though. "It's very tiring, I can't argue about that. I've.. loved kids all my life and I've always wanted a big family, my class is that for me. these little children.. they're the future, we have to make sure they get the attention they deserve."

"you'd think something made for children would be water-soluble, not like super glue...  i'll try but I don't know if I can scrub that hard, cheers mate."

lips press firmly together as he bites his lower lip with heavily consideration. “ah, i see the dilemma. you know i reckon you could try the conditioner. just leave it as long as possible. you can come over and borrow evies’ if you wanted?” he suggested with a knitted brow. zion’s smile is laced with vibrancy at the question, how could he not when she was his LIFE? “she’s good. i’m still pretty worried about her moving onto ‘big’ school. she still cries a bit when i drop her off at daycare but the teachers said she stops as soon as i leave so i’m not sure how i feel. what do you reckon?”

"wouldn't want to steal her's, lancy's will do. cheers though," aiden smiled, leaning back in his chair. "she'll be alright. big girl going to big school. I heard she's getting one of the best teachers as well-" aiden let out a chuckle, "-kids are usually excited to go to primary, make new friends, feel all grown up... it'll take her a week at tops and she'll love it."
