Missing You | Dexter & Ailene
"Frankie," he said under his breath angrily. Who else could it be? That bitch was almost as vicious as Ailene. He looked over to the woman. "She needs to pay."
"There's nothing we can do right now. We signed a treaty and if we attack them again another war will erupt. This time it will be the entire town against us."
Just Alright || Aidan & Ailene
He shrugged. “I’m alright. Wanted to talk to Soph for a bit, but it looks like she ain’t here.” Granted, Aidan wasn’t angry that she wasn’t in the house like she said she would be, but she could have given a warning beforehand.
"Of course." Aliene folded her arms on top of the desk and leaned forward. "What are we doing now Aidan? What's left for us in this fucking town?" She had been dancing around the subject for a long time but it was finally time to discuss it.
Missing You | Dexter & Ailene
The story angered him. "Which one? Which lady?" Ailene was right. If Dexter had been doing his job, Connor would be alive, much to his dismay. Dexter would make this bitch pay for what she did, if that's what it took.
"You know damn well who was more than likely behind it." They never could get confirmation on who ultimately killed Connor, but everyone had their suspicions.
Missing You | Dexter & Ailene
"You’re right," he said quietly. "I shoulda." The normally rough man seemed distraught at the fact that Connor was pushing up daisies. Normally Dexter would be thrilled at the idea of Ailene being available, but not now. Anything that made the older woman upset didn’t sit well with him, especially when it was something he could’ve prevented. "How’d it happen?" Dexter looked back up at her, hoping he hadn’t pushed a wrong button by asking.
The woman couldn't believe he was asking her to retell the story, the worst day of her life. She was angry at everyone these days, they had all failed her husband. "Tha' Italian bitch cornered him alone in the barber shop and slit his throat. If you had been doing your job, she wouldn't have even tried."
Just Alright || Aidan & Ailene
Hearing Ailene enter the library, he looked up to see that stoic face of hers a little more clearly. Aidan heeded her advice as he looked at the title of the book, shrugging it off completely before placing it back on the shelf. “Wasn’t all that bad. Reminds me of Hamlet in a way.” He said with a slight nod of the head. “How was the trip?”
Ailene walked around to the other side of the desk and took a seat. "Not long enough." She slumped in the chair, looking at everything on the desk. It hadn't been touched since Connor, everything was still in its place. "How are you holding up?"
Missing You | Dexter & Ailene
He looked at her for a moment, "heard things went from bad to worse. I guess I heard just a little too late." Dexter took a drink from his cup. "How are you holding up?"
"A little too late?" Ailene scoffed and downed her drink before pouring another. "Ye should have been at the shop with him when that bitch showed up."
Just Alright || Aidan & Ailene
Aidan stood in the old office in the McReary’s home, flicking through a few pages of one of the books Connor loved so much. Through the years he’d been following the man, he never understood the context that sat between the lines of this cynical tale. But now, Aidan understood it all; word for word. Line for line. Each time he read a page, memories of him and the old man sauntered its way into the Irishman’s mind. Some good, some bad, all of it was something that he didn’t want to deal with. Especially not at this very moment.
As Aidan closed the book with one hand, he placed it back in its place on the shelf before picking up another one.
Not dealing would be the best way to describe Ailene after her husband's death. It had been unexpected but not surprising. She had always feared that they might have taken on too much with Montford but she always followed him through every decision she made. There was nothing left for the woman here, but the men of the gang were all she'd known for so long. She would stay, until Sophie made a decision on what she wanted to do.
Stepping into the office, she spotted Aidan browsing their small library. "Rubbish that one is."
Missing You | Dexter & Ailene
Dexter's body went rigid when he heard Ailene speak up. He looked over to the woman he cared about and just took in the sight for a moment. Damn, he missed her, but he doubted she felt the same way. Her old man was killed and he wasn't there to save him. Sounded like she would be holding a grudge. "Hello yourself," he said after a moment.
Ailene just shook her head and moved behind the bar. She pulled a bottle of whiskey out from the hidden shelf and poured herself a glass. "I thought we'd seen the last of you." She downed the drink and lead back against the wall. "What brought ye back?"
Missing You | Dexter & Ailene
Dexter almost cracked a smile as he entered his favorite bar. Moriarty’s. He gave a fond hello to all the men and women he had missed while he was away. After speaking with a few people, he say down and ordered himself the usual.
Ailene came out from the back of the pub. She wasn't sure what she was still doing in this godforsaken town but she couldn't manage to uproot herself just yet. When she saw Dexter, she pulled her apron off and tossed it on the bar. "Well look what the cat dragged in."
