Tutoring | Felicity x Ailyn
felicityxdiggle:
Felicity was certain that Ailyn was a nice woman, but truth to be told; the blond was a bit; NERVOUS about tutoring the woman. And by nervous; it’s safe to say Felicity was actually terrified. “Hi, I’m Felicity. I’ve been, well, I’m going to tutor you, as I’m really sure you know.” slight tremble. By now, the small blond was judging herself harshly. She shouldn’t act as if Ailyn was some horrible monster, but this was a strong willed woman. She’d find Felicity some pathetic ‘stereotype’ Hufflepuff.
Ailyn had long ago accepted the fact that she wasn’t a p a r t i c u l a r y good witch. After all, while she might be incompetent when it came to magic, she was pretty capable at plenty of other things. Still, when she had been assigned a tutor, she had felt shame -- an emotion rare for Ailyn -- and she approached Felicity Diggle with feeling of annoyance in her stomach ( which was very much directed to herself ).
“I know your name,” said Ailyn, raising her eyebrows. “We’ve been in plenty of classes together, after all.” She looked at the blonde for a moment before sitting down. “But cheers, you know, for helping me out.” Her tone was far from sincere and she curled her lips in a smile that was even less sincere. “So what’ve you got for me?”
lucindatclkalot:
“Surely rolling up your skirt makes it easier to move in, which is useful for duelling?” Lucinda asked, not looking up from where she was analysing the breakdown of the last League match—Appleby Arrows vs Tutshill Tornadoes—instead of paying any attention whatsoever to her DADA essay. “If they’re going to enforce bullshit rules, they ought to at least have a defensible reason,” she said in disgust, finally looking up to meet Ailyn’s eyes, expression disparaging at the ridiculousness of the rule.
“Ah; you know how they are, don’t you? Stuck in a mindset where sex is just for marriage and girls who dare to be sexy must have nothing in their heads,” said Ailyn. She, too, was avoiding her DADA essay, much more interested in angrily discussing how close-minded her professors could be. “We both know there is no proper reason for this. If those stupid boys get distracted by the clothes I’ve decided to wear, then that should be their problem.”
antheaxdelafuente:
“Any child of yours will automatically be brilliant, Ailyn. How could they not? And even if they earn a little judgement, that just helps them develop as people, don’t you think?” She thought for a moment, lips curling into a smile. “It’s treating me very well, thank you. And today is especially good because I ran into you. How’s the year going for you?”
“Why thank you. I would want my hypothetical children to be brilliant above everything, after all; I’d not be able to deal with a bunch of fools,” said Ailyn, laughing a little. “And you are absolutely right! A little judgement and tough love only helps people.” Eyes twinkled as she looked at Anthea, and she smiled. “Oh yes, you are very lucky to have bumped into me. My year’s been treating me quite nicely, tooo. What’ve you been up to, then?”
blvckheir:
“Oh, he knows this gets him attention,” he shrugged, shifting his attention away from the cat. “I’m hoping if I leave him up there for a while he’ll stop pulling stunts like that. He might actually be less dramatic than humans in that regard,” he admitted with a chuckle. “I try my best to ignore the dramatics the seventh years seem to thrive off of, but there make it quite difficult to escape.”
“Cats are -- while admittedly adorable -- the weirdest creatures I’ve ever intracted wit. And I’ve seen some weird creatures,” said Ailyn, clearly amused as she looked at the cat. “Oh, same here; I do not have the time nor energy to keep track of whatever is keeping them busy. It’s ridiculous, really, if you look at how little drama we have in contrast to them.”
rvbvstvn:
Barely suppressing a grin, he listened to her tirade. It had been some time since he’d felt well enough to laugh and really feel the joy of it but Ailyn had a way of making all the terrible facets of reality go away with simple life and he was truly lucky she liked him enough to put any effort into being his friend. “Those heels were terribly distracting, I think Travers almost blew up the Potions room he was so captivated. Your fashion shouldn’t disrupt the learning of others.” He teased gently, prodding her just a bit.
She knew he was teasing ( or at least, very much hoped he was ) and rolled her eye playfully at his words in response. “Well, that should be his problem, not mine. Maybe I should buy him a pair of blinkers,” said Ailyn, chuckling softly. “Besides, it’s real unfair to blame his incompetence on my appearing, if you ask me. I can’t help it that I look good in heels, but he can definitely help it that he’s shit at Potions.”

“ at least, i thought you looked fabulous, ” smile gracing daena’s lips as she settles down next to her FRIEND. month having passed since they last spoke ( in the midst of a new years’ party) and after days of silence the slytherin decided to pretend like NOTHING at all had transpired between the two. even if ailyn’s lips pressed onto hers still HAUNTED her. “ ––– then again, i always do. was it slughorn who said such a vile thing? wouldn’t surprise me. ”
“why thank you,” said ailyn, curtsying at the sight of dee with a smile curling red-painted lips. it had been QUITE a while since she had spoken to the brunette and she was somewhat surprised that she had addressed her, but she was not necessarily complaining; in truth, she had missed her friend. “it was him, indeed; are you a seer? it’s incredibly depressing, knowing some of our professors are stuck in this bloody mindset. ugh.”

lucindatclkalot:
The assignment was thus: an extended analysis on a particular charm, hex, jinx or piece of magic with an intensive use of spellwork, in the form of a critical research and theoretical essay, as well as a practical demonstration. It struck Lucinda as having its roots in Magical Theory as an assessment, but she wasn’t complaining. Magical Theory was something she enjoyed greatly.
Having converged around Anthea at the outset of the assignment, it had been agreed that Ailyn, Anthea and Lucinda were to work together on this assignment. Frankly, Lucinda was incredibly confident with them as a team. Lucinda, admittedly, approached most things with a brisk determination that did not allow much room for nervousness or flinching, but this was definitely a merited confidence. Honestly, what couldn’t they do?
The three of them were seated around a bench, preparing to begin. “Given the assignment, I thought it would be interesting if we did the Patronus Charm,” Lucinda said. “A lot of people will be focusing on things like Flipendo and Alohamora, which are absolutely doable, but honestly, I think they’d be boring. Might as well do something worthwhile, right?” A Patronus was built with theory and language, much like many spells, but there was an emotional art to it—emotions were always important with magic, but the Patronus relied on it more than most.
Ailyn only took DADA because it seemed logical; a war was whirling outside the castle walls and there was no way she’d let herself get caught in a crossfire without any expertise in duelling ( not that she was any good at it, but she supposed she’d be a tad better at it if she’d taken two more years of the class ). The practical side of the class were a downright disaster, but when it came to the essays, she performed excellently. After all, while Ailyn may be no good at performing spells, she was damned good at understanding them.
As she formed a group with Anthea and Lucinda --- because who else was there, really, who she would perform perfectly with? --- a determination was flowing through her veins. While she was not much looking forward to the practical demonstration, the research of whatever spell they would choose was something she was looking forward.
“I agree,” said Ailyn, nodding along to Lucinda’s work. “It’ll be a challenge, but that shouldn’t be a problem, now should it?” Ailyn liked challenges, only liked classes when she really learned something and she could not do that if she did was what simple; she would rather fail while taking a chance than choose the easier option. “There’s a lot of sides to it, too, which means we have many ways to approach the analysis.”
@antheaxdelafuente
“So apparently rolling up your skirt and wearing pink heals is not ‘appropriate’ and I should really learn to dress more properly for a learning environment .... I didn’t know that you needed to look a certain way to learn shit,” muttered Ailyn, running a hand through her hair. “I know this school is a castle, but that’s no reason to be medieval when it comes to clothing.”
“Seriously?” Regulus tsked, shaking his head at his cat who refused to come down from its perch on top of a statue. “I swear cats are the most dramatic creatures on Earth.”
“Hm. And here I was, thinking you were smart,” said Ailyn, looking at the cat for a moment. “I mean, humans are obviously the most dramatic beings on earth. Just look at the people in our house, for example.”
“What’s the point of a student being sorted into Ravenclaw if they’re not even bloody smart enough to get into the common room? I could solve those riddles in my sleep, yet some people stand out there for hours waiting for someone to come along and let them in with the correct answer. The sorting hat should’ve done them a favor and just sorted them into a house that requires a simple password for entrance.”
“My name is Cadmus Travers and I’m SO MUCH better than all of you,” said Ailyn, voice dramatic as she suppressed a grin. “Honestly, Travers, while you might be right, you sound like a total ass. And that’s coming from me. I mean, c’mon, don’t tell me you’ve always been able to solve those riddles; sometimes they’re downright ridiculous and lack logic.”
evan’s mind raced. his brain ran wild with thoughts of no apparent origin, something like anxiety riddling its way up his spine, sending chills down his arms. he was tired. exhausted, even. he felt like the masks he had been wearing were melted onto his face;; it was becoming increasingly hard to remove one in favor of the other. and so he sat in the library, cold and unnattentive, not quite reading the passage in front of him, almost oblivious to the person that had settled in the seat across from him, had he not flicked his eyes up momentarily.
“seat’s taken,” he lied through his teeth after a moment of careful assessment.
the library was like her sanctuary; it brought peace to the chaos that had become her mind, allowed her to escape in books and information. ailyn had a fascination with broadening her mind and learning more, and so the great amount of books in the library made the space one she would almost call home. the opportunities were big and grand and when she was a first year she had been filled with amazement when she’d first seen the library. when she had sat down next to evan she hadn’t paid much attention to the other. in stead, her mind was already writing her arithmancy essay and her eyes had been scanning the pages of the book in her hands, and so when he spoke up she looked up with some confusion.
“well, whoever was sitting here should have put their bag on the chair if they wanted to reserve it. that’s how the world works, is it not?,” commented she, before returning to her book with an amused shake of her head.
antheaxdelafuente:
“Exceptions must be granted sometimes. Once a child can speak though, the judging should begin. After all, their parents ought to be able to teach them to speak properly, don’t you think?” Tilting her head to the side, Anthea leaned in a little closer.
“Hmm, this is exactly why I don’t want children ... I’ll be much too judgemental. That might benefit them, though,” Ailyn mused, a small smile curling her lips. “Anyway --- how is ‘78 treating my favourite Slytherin so far?”
Under the cut is my full application for Ailyn, minus the ooc info!
