Milo Goes to College - Descendents (1982)
this tape was pressed recently but the recordings are from the 80s. im not a big fan of this band, but i picked them up to have a listen and try something new. not bad.
i like āsuburban homeā but i havenāt finished listening to the whole tape yet. when i do ill give a proper review.
sorry that this one is short. heres the jcard and the tape
there was a big storm last night but its sunny today
Good & Evil - Tally Hall (2022)
this one is a newer one. most of my tapes are from before 2000 but i have a few modern ones that were gifted to me by my contestants.
one of my contestants said i would like this one. I dont know why. its not my favorite but it reminds me of they might be giants so its okay.
the actual tape itself is very cool. the j-card is boring
overall this tape has decent sound quality. its not as good as my cassettes from the 90s which is weird but it still plays well.
i think my favorite track in this one is āhymn for a scarecrowā. but i dont listen to this one very often because the entire album isnt a good album to listen through front to back.
its not bad. the songs are ok. tally hall is also just not really my style of music. but they vary so wildly in style throughout the album that sometimes it feels like im listening to a different band. their songs are not very consistent and i get whiplash.
i only like āhymn for a scarecrowā, but i dont listen to it often because its too tedious to listen through the whole a-side to get to it. my second favorite song is āfate of the starsā but once again its the last song.
anyway. 6/10. not bad but not for me
Ten - Pearl Jam (1991)
im starting my series called airys tape collection where i talk about one cassette a day. starting off with pearl jams ātenā album
i really like this tape. my favorite album is āno codeā but i donāt have that one yet. it plays very smoothly on my player, and the j-card is very creative. probably my favorite out of my collection. you can see the whole image below.
i think my favorite track from this album is āoceansā. like an ocean itself: the suspense in this track heightens and calms like waves.
the guitar and bass have echoey, synthesizer-ish sounds. they dance and weave throughout the constant metronomic rhythm of the drums, which i interpret as symbolizing the oceanās currents, and the ocean floor, respectively.
the slightly distorted voice effects added to this track in particular mesh really well with the instrumentation, to the point where the singer himself becomes yet another instrument. he isnt trying to dominate the track or stand above the score, but rather he flows throughout it. gives me a visual of the singer becoming one with the water, rather than sailing or surfing on top of it.
8/10 tape. i really like pearl jam.
when i find out how to hook my player up to a speaker for my phone to pick up, i will post a video of the audio.
