“When making the garment themselves, people no longer have to fit their personality and body into a garment and then get rid of that garment when the season is over. Rather, they make the garment to fit them, and they make it to last. It’s a different way of looking at things, and it’s empowering. Sewing does take more time and effort than buying, but it’s very satisfying in a way that fast fashion could never be.” Meet Portland-based maker Jenny Gordy of Wiksten who discusses constructing a more creative and inclusive approach to personal style.
