Editor!Akaashi had been reading lots of shounen manga to study thanks to the nature of his job... And then this one pro volleyball player Akaashi's close with, aka Bokuto Koutarou, naturally joined him in his quest just because, & somehow Bokuto had this newfound love for Dragon Ball, to the point where he started giving his serve a nickname inspired by an attack from the series now...

...Or, maybe it was Akaashi who started comparing the spirits bomb attack to Bokuto-san's serve in the first place? I mean I wouldn't put it pass that dramatic literature guy to do that when it comes to his star.

But point is, Bokuto = Beam Weapon, and that "high spirit bomb!" serve... Spirits bomb/genkidama/元気玉... that's definitely a very famous shounen manga aka Dragon Ball's reference where you can see the characters firing spirits bombs & beams out of their palms okay.

So yeah.

Bokuto Koutarou"s "spirits bomb" serve and his "Beam Weapon"'s nickname... they all probably started with how a shounen manga editor Akaashi Keiji, reading some shounen manga... With Bokuto.
