The Running Man movie is hardly a faithful adaptation of its book and for once that's not a bad thing. For everyone complaining about the movie you should try reading the book and then see how well your complaints hold up.

one decision I really loved in the long walk movie that I think really reflects king’s original themes is to age up the characters. The U.S. and fandom culture have this massive problem of acting like the moment anyone turns 18 they’re No Longer A Child and suddenly an Adult who deserves it, so the fact that all the boys and young men in the movie are above the U.S. draft age of 18 and this is said on screen felt like such an angry condemnation of the draft itself. The boys drafted into Vietnam WERE this young (or younger) and it’s later action movies that have shifted the image into huskier and older action guys. This is what the *draft* of 18-25 year old guys looks like! This is what it looks like when those big strong Adult Men America stops considering youth in any way past that number 18 get mown down like flies!

I love when the fanfic just inserts Olson as the plot device. Big fan of “Olson knew this guy that knew this guy and now he’s giving Ray Pete’s phone number” or “Olson drags everyone to a party and then immediately passes out/goes home/is not mentioned after they enter the door”. This guy is not relevant to the story (usually it’s a shipping thing) but he’s still there and he’s just the best wingman or weirdly effective at moving the plot along.
