the long walk baseball au because i'm just like that

pete mcvries - pitcher

the pitcher runs the game and there's a TON of pressure on them. the outcome of the game really depends on the performance of the team's pitcher--if he sucks, they'll probably lose, if he's good, they'll probably win--and i feel like pete would rise to the challenge. i feel like he's pretty even-keel throughout the walk, and that's good because pitchers can't let any negative emotions control them

ray garraty - catcher

catcher is undeniably the most difficult position to play, and endurance is really key. half the battle is physical, but a lot of it is mental too... you need a strong body and a strong mind and i think ray has both, since he made it so far on the walk. also a catcher really backs up their pitcher--calling pitches and whatnot...... these two positions rely on each other a lot and i love the idea of a gavries battery :33

billy stebbins - centerfield

centerfielders do a lot of observing, since not a whole lot of balls are hit in their direction (most stay in the infield). they also don't get a whole lot of attention, until a ball is actually hit towards them--then they have the opportunity to make a lot of really game-changing plays (home runs robberies??). idk i thought it fit stebbins' vibe lol and i can see him standing stoically in center :)

collie parker - third baseman

third basemen are typically reliable, and a lot of them are also really skilled offensively and often hit for power (basically in non-baseball terms, they're considered good batters). they need strong throwing arms and i can just see collie making that long toss to first like it's nothing. third base is also often called the hot corner because it sees a lot of action so. yeah

gary barkovitch - shortstop

the shortstop is typically the center of attention when they're on defense....... barkovitch is the type of guy that loves that kind of thing lol. shortstops also have to have high energy and quick footing..... both of which barkovitch has--proven by the hill scene i think :') not sure, he just gives me shortstop vibes

hank olson - second base

the second baseman is often overshadowed by the shortstop, but i think hank would be the type of second baseman that would field all the shortstop's balls as well as his own lol. not because he's being selfish, he'd probably just be That Good. i like to think he'd be the fan favorite because he's got that swagger :D

art baker - first baseman

i love art as a first baseman..... maybe just because the one i know is pretty friendly and cheerful? first baseman like. rarely get credit for their defense, but art doesn't seem like the type of guy who NEEDS credit. it seems like he'd do what needed to be done without fuss--definitely good for a first baseman. also he's tall so that'd be great for the long stretches first basemen often have to make :3

i gotta speak my truth about something real quick. y'all have gotta stop treating hank and clementine like a "do not separate" pair. i'm getting a bit tired of people treating hank shippers like they're crazy.

and to clarify: obviously, this is not clementine hate. i tend not to talk about her because she's not really a character, but i think what the fandom has done with her/her potential is, generally speaking, very cool!

however, we do need to remember that we don't really know anything about their relationship. the only character who talks about her is collie. i understand that there are some generally accepted things about her and thats very cool, but at the end of the day, she is completely up to interpretation. i could say anything about her and it might be true. we simply do not know!

i remember this being a huge thing on twitter back in november and have seen a couple shit takes on it lately but y'all have GOT to stop treating people who ship hank with the other boys like they're misogynistic for "ignoring a female character." i am not denying that female characters regularly get ignored for the sake of yaoi, but this does not apply here. it is not crazy to want to ship olson with a character who he'd have an established dynamic with! because clem isn't really a character, and they do not have an established dynamic. that's okay!

let's also not pretend that jan has ever kept people from shipping gavries (and she is an actual character). and i see this argument the most for why people hate bakeson and it's always rubbed me the wrong way. i don't even main bakeson (anyone who has spoken to me for .5 seconds knows i am a stolson enthusiast. i still like bakeson a lot though) but people who hate that ship make me a little bit wary. why are you so hesitant to ship a MOC (who, in all honesty, is a very shippable character)?? and especially hating on a ship involving two MOC who canonically have a v close relationship (which i do firmly believe is the reason bakeson is not more popular than it is. ideally it should be the #2 most popular and yet it's technically a rarepair)??? i also saw a super batshit post on twitter saying that shipping bakeson is ignoring a black woman??? where??? while i do share the black clementine headcanon, it is a headcanon. meanwhile art is a canonically black character and you are ignoring him. wider fandom ignores art baker to a criminal degree and he is actually a prominent character with a canon personality. let's put our thinking caps on for this one, shall we?

i'm also not saying you have to ship bakeson (this post is not about ship wars. i would like to make that very clear. idc what you ship) or even that you have to ship hank with any of the other walkers, but let's stop treating the couple that we don't know anything about like an inseparable pair. it's getting a bit boring and honestly a lot of people are using it as an excuse to further ignore and desexualize hank. because let's be real, most of you are not making hank-centered content. hank/clem is usually a background pairing.

as a hank fan and multishipper, i do get very annoyed when i try to bring up literally any hank ship and people are like "but clementine!" i Did Not ask. please Cease. let's all give him a little bit more love and variety, especially since hank week is coming up!

apollo 13: honestly, i don't watch a whole lot of movies, but this one comes to mind, since it kinda launched my obsession with the nasa space missions?

cars 1: i know, i know, it's so basic, but it's also kind of a nostalgic movie for me..... :) i used to be in LOVE with the cars franchise, and it's nice to rewatch the movies every now and then

the hunger games: i guess i have to put a hunger games movie up there, since i loved it for years. and idk, i just really like the first one for some reason :')
