Poisonous Predicament

âAh! Comme c'est impoli de ma part Je m'appelle Dust.â She smiled more gently now, wanting to at least try and sooth both his ire and his understandable distress. âJe dirige la boutique - Haelga est mon apprenti. En bateau, hm? Cela a dĂ» ĂȘtre un long voyage. Est-ce que Chikao, l'homme avec vous, est un membre de la famille? Est-ce juste vous deux?â
A soft laugh then. Dust shook her head, giving a sheepish grin. âPardonnez-moi, je devance moi-mĂȘme. As-tu faim, soif? Je peux vous obtenir quelque chose pendant que votre compagnon se repose, si vous voulez.â Â Â
Dust. Dust? An odd name, he thought. He didnât think heâd ever come across someone called Dust. Then again, most names were new to him; this one was just super new. His gaze returned upon Chikao, and he gingerly settled himself on the foot of the bed.
âDust,â he parroted, tasting the word on his tongue. A little shake of his head. âCe n'est pas juste nous. Ma famille, les Ishikawa. Et ... je suppose que vous pourriez dire qu'il est une famille. Sorte de. Je ne sais pas.â
At the notion of food and drink, he considered. Theyâd recently eaten but he could always go for more. His mother always semi-jokingly referred to him as a bottomless pit. âLa nourriture sonne bien. Ce que tu as?â
need me some more rps, so... like this post if youâd be interested in plotting with me, and in extension yemon and/or chikao! âš
Darkest Hour | CITY OF THE FALLEN
Poisonous Predicament

Dust winced in the face of Yemonâs anger, not out of fear, but sympathy. Surely the whole situation must have been frustrating, and with his - father, perhaps? Wounded, little wonder he was lashing out so. Haelga for her part straightened defensively, but softened some at Dustâs hand on her shoulder.
âCould you go check on Gwenny and Claire? I havenât had a chance since early this morning.â A nod and the Nord woman left, leaving Dust alone with her two guests. A small, sympathetic smile curved her lips as she saw his gaze move to his companion. âVotre ami va bien se passer. Il a juste besoin de repos, maintenant.â
A beat. She inhaled, chewed her lip, then finally spoke with brow furrowed. âJe suis dĂ©solĂ© d'ĂȘtre si sceptique. C'est juste - nous n'avons pas vu une Ăąme d'Akavir depuis des siĂšcles, comme le dit mon ami. Comment es-tu venu ici?â
Yemon briefly watched the taller, Nordic woman depart. Good riddance, he thought bitterly. He was still uncertain about this shorter, dark-haired woman, given her previous unintelligible (to him, at least) quips, but he supposed he had little choice but to conform lest they be kicked out on the street. Normally, Yemon was all for chaos and defiance; however, that was when he had a sturdy Chikao by his side. With Chikao ill, he felt unusually vulnerable.
"Longue histoire, mais nous sommes venus en bateau. Avec la famille. Ma famille,â Yemon replied. After a few seconds of silence on his side, he realised he didnât know the womanâs name. The taller one he presumed to be Haelga - it sounded very Nordic - but this one... He was completely in the dark. â... Comment vous appelez-vous?â

For a long few moments, it seemed neither Dust nor her apprentice understood at all. They both stared, Dust wide-eyed with a hand over parted lips, Haelga with her heavy brow screwed and lips pursed. Finally, a scoff. âHorseshit.â
âHaelga!âÂ
âIt is! Akavir doesnât have humans! Just snake-men. And no one comes here anymore from there, fer Talos sake, not for centuries -Â â
âWe donât know anything for sure yet, alright?â She flashed a smile at Yemon, meant to be soothing, then turned back to Haelga. She spoke lower, faster, hoping the young man wouldnât overhear. âAlright, yes, it does sound mad, but itâs possible he was poisoned, too. But letâs not antagonizeâŠâ
A beat. She stood from the older manâs side after enduring he was comfortably asleep. Bretony? âTu parles Bretony?â She switched to it, hopeful. âEst-ce plus facile que commun? Dites-moi si vous le pouvez. Avez-vous Ă©tĂ© blessĂ© du tout?â
The look on his face swept away from confusion and onto anger. He pointed accusingly at both.
âYou pe- people know nothing! Nothing! You have only come once - once - to our land, and then you were chased out like nezumi! ăăăăă! ă°ă âŠâ Yemon didnât like how the shorter woman, whoâd previously been accommodating to his wobbly standing on Tamrielic, was suddenly speaking faster to her company. It felt like she was trying to say something that he wouldnât understand by speed alone. He folded his arms, maintaining defiance, but after a few beats of silence on his end, reluctantly yielded to her question. â... Non, je n'ai pas Ă©tĂ© blessĂ©.â
His piercing gaze shifted from the women onto Chikao, who seemed to be comfortably resting. His gaze softened.

A nod. Cognitive impairment suited the other symptoms, too, and her guess of nightshade poisoning. Lucky it was a watered down one, then, one of the few times she wouldnât curse the shoddy work of lesser alchemists.
For now, Dust focused on her patient. Once he seemed to understand, at least as best he could, she began to feed him the thick black liquid from the vile. Smoky and noxious smelling with an unpleasant gritty texture, but it would do the trick, if all went well. In the meantime Haelga had occupied herself on the manâs other side, cleaning and bandaging the wound that had let the poison in, in the first place.
Once the vial was emptied she lay him down properly again, laying hands - one nearer to his wounded arm, the other above his chest, eyes closing in concentration. A warm ivory glow came, sinking in. Alone the potion wouldnât be enough, acting on the contents of his stomach rather than the poison in his veins, but with a little coaxingâŠ
At the end of it she released the spell with a sigh, glancing up at the younger man. He must have been worried. A gentle smile was offered. âThis should help. Weâll let him rest, now.â Finally, she indulged her curiosity. âWhat are your names? Where are you from?âÂ
Haelga joined in, more businesslike, but nevertheless polite. âWhat language was that? You speak any others?âÂ
Despite its foul scent and taste, Chikao swallowed the potion with little resistance. His eyes remained open - reluctantly - as the healer shifted his form and lay her hands upon him. Once a glow enveloped his vision, and warmth spread throughout his core and limbs like a lapping tide, gentle but inevitable, he permitted himself to relax against the relative softness of the mattress and pillows. Magick⊠yes, of course. That would help. Now, his eyes heavily drifted to a close.
Meanwhile, as Chikao was beginning to enter some sense of repose, Yemon was bombarded with questions. He blinked slowly, his gaze swapping between the two healersâ. It took him a moment to reply.
âI am... My name is Yemon. Ishikawa Yemon,â he gestured towards himself, before gesturing towards his bodyguard, âthis is Chikao. Weâre from Akavir. The language was... Akaviri. I speak Akaviri, Tamrielic, and some Bretony. Chikao speaks Akaviri, Tamrielic, some Bretony, and some of the Dark Elf language.â
A pause. Yemonâs face scrunched up.
âThat makes sense, right? You two understand?â

âWhat are they speaking?â Haelga, guarded around strangers, frowned as the two men spoke in such a strange tongue. Dust frowned herself as the younger translated, helping him lay the older down on the patient bed and muttering to her.Â
â⊠I donât know.â Strange. She was fluent only in Bretony and Common, but she at least recognized most other languages. This, however, she couldnât identify. And it was clear that though the younger man spoke enough Common to get by, this might be a struggle.
Still, first things first. Sheâd act on her suspicions of nightshade poisoning, get him treated. The poison seemed amateur, luckily, else the older man would already be unconscious. She took from Haelgaâs hand a potion vial and cupped beneath the manâs head, glancing at the younger man and trying to speak slow and clear.
âTell him, this will help stop poison - sick.â He hadnât used the word poison himself, maybe he didnât know it. Better to assume less than more, even if it made her seem condescending. She could apologize later. âHe must drink all, and not stop. I will use healing spell after, okay?âÂ
âOkay. Okay...â Yemon bobbed his head slowly, processing what she said. He attempted to translate it into simple Akaviri, gesturing vibrantly and accentuating his accent with pivotal words. He got the gist that the poison was fogging up Chikaoâs sense of understanding, especially considering Chikao was usually better at Tamrielic than he was.
It took the elder of the two a long moment to comprehend. Eventually, he nodded and parted his lips for the potion.
âI- I think the... sick is getting to his head,â Yemon added. âHe is better at speaking Tamrielic than me.â

Oh, shit.
Dust pulled herself from the ledger and various papers sprawled over her counter with a groan. Dammit, just as she was getting to the important bits, every damned time. But someone needed help - duty called. âHaelga, weâve got - â
âAlready here.â
The two met the group at the door, Dust giving a little gasp and reaching out. Sheâd expected the usual - a bad bite hunting, or a fishing hook stuck in the hand. But this, clearly, had been an attack. She took the strangerâs arm and looked over the wound through the torn material of his sleeve, then made a point of studying his face. A sheen of sweat, pupils heavily dilated. Likely a common nightshade-based formula.
âHaelga, get the charcoal potion and set up the patient bed, will you? The usual supplies for poison. â Her voice lowered some, gentle and firm as she addressed both men. Behind them, the local man waved and took off.
First her eyes fell on the younger man. âSir? I need your help to bring him to the bed, please, and anything you can tell me about the attack. AndâŠâ She sidled in to try and hook an arm around the wounded man, offer further support to lead him to the bed as she spoke. âTell me how you feel, please. Are you nauseous, stomach hurting? Anything you can tell me.â Â
âAh! Yes!â
Yemon was quick to flit back to Chikaoâs side, offering his shoulders for Chikao to loop his arm around. Chikao tried his best to remain upright, but the weakness only grew more pervasive every waking moment; before he could walk with only slight wobble but now he was wavering, hunched over with heavy legs. Everything felt like an effort.
âThere was... man. He tried to take our stuff. Chikao, he...â Yemonâs eyes darted towards Chikao, who returned a fogged gaze. âFight him. The man had a knife. Hit Chikao, here -â
He gestured towards the torn sleeve, where a dark red slash was visible beneath.Â
ăćăăăŸăăăăChikao grumbled upon realising he was being spoken to.
âUh, he said he does not understand,â Yemon quickly translated. Just as quickly, he tried his best to translate what the healer said back into Akaviri, which resulted in a sluggish exchange until Yemon felt confident enough to answer in Chikaoâs stead. âHe says... he feel a little sick. His body feel weak.â

This wasnât how their trip was supposed to go.
As they tread the dirt path, littered with the crunchy orange and yellow relics of deciduous trees, Yemon was busy soaking up the sights. Eyes wide and gaze flickering, he took in the surroundings with a hefty handful of awe. Chikao, meanwhile, wasnât as absorbed in the beauty that embraced them; he was more concerned with making sure nothing happened to the youngster beside him.
A rustle. Chikao jutted an arm out, bringing both himself and Yemon to a halt.
ăăĄăăŁăšćŸ ăŁăŠăă ăăăă Chikao croaked, his other hand reaching for his wakizashi.
From the refugee of a cluster of trees, a man emerged. A hairy hand held onto an old, chipped dagger, one that had an odd shine to it beneath the watchful afternoon sun.
âHand over âur valuables,â the man said.Â
Chikao narrowed his eyes, observant to the unusual shimmer. Poison? Poison. Newly applied; hadnât had time to dry. Either that or heâd recently washed the blade, but Chikao figured it was best to assume the worst in this situation.
âGo away,â Yemon snapped, âwe have nothing to give you.â
âAhâthink yâdo,â a crooked smile split his cheeks, unveiling yellow teeth.
âLeave now,â Chikao commanded, unsheathing a wakizashi and stepping in front of Yemon. He had the distinct feeling the man wouldnât heed his command and that this would end very, very messily.
âNo.â
ăæ»ăăă
The two fought. Chikao was quick, unnaturally so, and landed hard hits within moments of them starting. However, because he (stupidly) hadnât withdrawn his second wakizashi, he had little means to deflect blows. The thug managed to just cut his arm shortly before Chikao delivered the final, fatal strike, reducing the man to a naught but a body on the ground.
Oblivious to what type of poison it was exactly, Chikao knew he needed to get to a healer - and fast. The duo backtracked their way to the town theyâd recently passed through, Ivarstead, and during the trip back, Chikao found his vision growing blurrier by the moment. His limbs grew weak.Â
âHello!â Yemon shouted, earning the eyes of many. âYes, hello, hello! Where is healer? Friend is... is...â
His mind blanked - he forgot the Commons word for poison. He bit his lip for a moment.
â... Really hurt. Please!â
A local, recognising the weakness in Chikaoâs form, darted over to help the man towards the local healers - The Dusty Cauldron.Â
âAye, Dust!â bellowed the burly Nordic man moments before he swung the door open to the quaint little medical establishment, âI think this guy needs y'help!â
