haerin chews on the inside of her right cheek, left leg bouncing as she feels nerves crawl up her spine. even though the hard part of getting the role was over, rehearsals always made her anxious. romeo and juliet was her favorite play of all time, all the romantic ones just never came close to the concept of star-crossed lovers. granted, they both died at the end, but it was dreamy until then. a major part of her nerves was the highly anticipated kiss scene between the two, and the sight of hansol walking into the auditorium as if on cue causes her breath to hitch in the back of her throat. soon, she was hiccupping. kim haerin never had her first kiss. she almost came close last semester, when she was having a fling with a girl from art class, but that came to an end once their eyes were set on someone new. this would be her first kiss … with hansol, of all people. she doesn’t hate people and hansol wasn’t the exception to that either, but she’s heard about him more often than she liked, and stories about him always ranged from one extreme to another. crazy parties, wild adventures, and out of this world stories that sometimes felt like it was fake. haerin recalls seeing his face across campus once in a blue moon, often with a crowd. they weren’t really the type of people haerin would hang out with, but her friend list was rather small, anyways. " hi, " she replies with a smile. a hiccup follows suit. it wasn’t the most ideal situation, as she heard through the grapevine that the only reason he auditioned was to prevent himself from being kicked out. at least he’s trying, she thinks, he’s just doing the best he can. " i’m haerin. " her smile grows wider, if that was possible, and she extends a tiny hand straight out at him. " no, no. that’s totally fine. of course i don’t mind. " she scoots a little over. " oh, i was just reading over the script ! i guess we have to kiss, huh ? " an awkward laugh escape her lips. how smooth.
hansol quirks an eyebrow at her mini hiccups, and his expression is quickly accompanied by a tiny, amused smirk. he fights the urge to ask if she’s okay, deciding it would probably go smoother if they ignored it all together. ‘ cool. hansol. ’ he returns the greeting, swallowing her tiny hand with his much larger one and giving it a sloppy shake-- it’s probably obvious that he doesn’t do a lot of handshakes. at most, he dabs up his friends at the skatepark or jaemin whenever the two met up. he runs a hand through his hair as she speaks, trying to recall anything he bothered to read in his copy of the script. at the mention of the kiss, hansol gives a nonchalant nod. ‘ yeah, and kill ourselves too, ’ he adds, probably a bit too casually and somewhat oblivious. to him, the kiss wasn’t that big of a deal considering he’s had his fair share of girlfriends and makeouts at parties. ‘ isn’t that so fucked, making them both die ? ’ he continues, ‘ like, what’s this dude’s problem ? ’ last night he skimmed through the play. everything near the end, anyway. hansol was too impatient to read the stuff in between. his eyes suddenly widen with realization, ‘ oh, damn ! i left my script at home-- it was on my bed. i forgot to take it with me this morning. ’ he explains. ‘ uh, is it cool if we share yours? ’ he scoots just a little closer towards haerin anyway. his hand reaches out and grabs the other side of her script. ‘ have you read this whole thing already ? ’ hansol asks, staring hard at the words printed before looking up to meet haerin’s eyes. ‘ you must really like this play, huh? ’ he’s genuinely curious, mostly because he can’t wrap his head around why someone would enjoy reading something where all the characters talk funny and die.
