General Update 18 May
Just a short one today, in what may be the last blog post before release. However for now there is some information on the graphics in time for the third and last Viva.

General Update 18 May
Just a short one today, in what may be the last blog post before release. However for now there is some information on the graphics in time for the third and last Viva.
General Update 3 May 2015
An unfortunate set back in recording convolution reverbs meant I had time to prepare for implementing graphics, in the event of finding a graphic designer or not.
Graphic Designer Wanted
DrumLord is looking for graphics! DrumLord is a drum sampler to be made for Native Instruments’ Reaktor which will allow the user to choose from two whole drum kits to create their perfect set.
General Update 20 April
At the time of the last post I had created the samplers for all the non percussion rack slots as well as the sample selection section and the mixer. A big part of my work this month has been merging this work with the mouse area work I previously demonstrated on this blog.
Update 22 March 2015
I haven’t updated this blog as much as I’d like, but here’s one on my progress with the actual Reaktor patch.
The theme of the past few weeks has been stripping back, I’ve spent time looking at all the features that I thought up at the start of the project and deciding whether they were vital features or even whether they were worth doing at all.
Here's some pictures from some of my friends' work I've been helping with. The first picture is Rhodri and I recording for BrightLights TV while the second is from a session I did recently with Rhodri for his own major project.
I've been doing some recording and here is some photos from the first recording session I did with the help of Rhodri and my other friend Adam Davis. I am currently in the process of editing the files from the first session and organising the next sessions.
Here is the audio files from my drum test recording session the other week. It's the three mic set ups in a row, which are a spaced large diaphragm pair, a spaced small diaphragm pair and finally an XY small diaphragm pair, respectively.

I've updated my gantt this week to make it clearer and also to reflect my decision to postpone graphic design, both to free up more time for patching and recording but also to give me an opportunity to research graphics and GUIs.
I also added the test recording I did a couple of weeks ago and added a new one in January.
Here's a cool little video showing a bit of insight into recording libraries for samplers!
I went into the studio today with my friend Rhodri, while I still intend to record samples in January as Rhodri had asked me to help with his project which also included recording drums I thought I'd take this opportunity to get some more recording experience, especially in the university's BBC Hall which is a space I've not recorded in before.
Early problems arose which meant we couldn't experiment as much as we would've liked and we spend most of our three hour session trying to solve them. The system in this studio had two audio interfaces and one of them wasn't working properly so we were limited to 8 channels.
We had a Shure Beta kick mic with an SM58 next to the beater, which meant we had to reverse it's polarity, we had two 57s on the snare, one 58 on the floor tom and because of our reduced channel availability we placed a large diaphragm condenser with a 'figure of 8' polar pattern on its side for both middle toms. However what I was keen to experiment with was the overheads. Originally we had a spaced pair of large diaphragm condensers, which created quite a muddy sound, and there was quite a lot of ringing from the snare, our second attempt replaced the large diaphragms with small diaphragms and I was incredibly impressed with the result, the cymbals were crisp and clear, and importantly they cut through well, our third attempt had our condensers placed in a XY formation, which while it dealt with the snare ring better and complimented the toms quite well I feel it lost some of that crispness, therefore I would like to experiment further with this technique to see if I can get more out of it.
Mouse areas continued
Today I worked on one expansion to the mouse area patch which was a close button. And it was a lot simpler than I thought it would be.
General Update 24/11/14 - Mouse areas
Today I worked on figuring out the new mouse over capabilities in Reaktor 5.9.2. I was keen to learn this new feature as I hope to use this to make it possible for the user to be presented each drum's edit options by placing their mouse over it.
General update 05/11/14 - Gantt Chart
Here is the current Gantt chart, as recorded I started work on the preparations for the first Viva on the 27th of October, last week.
AL DrumLord Project Brief
In this document I will be outlining my proposal for my year 3 major project, I intend to thoroughly describe my aims for the project and research I will need to undertake to achieve them. Throughout this project I will be presenting my progress and eventually my finished project in three vivas, and I will also be outlining my targets for this first viva.
