"If you respected the sanctity of the game, you wouldn't call it soccer. You know...we had just about broken Rebecca of that nasty habit..." Giving Steve a pointed look, she headed to the kitchen to grab him a beer. England's departure had put Jacqueline home from Brazil much sooner then she anticipated and so...in the spirit of football and all the was sacred she had actually agreed to spend a week or two in NY, staying with her father.

Aka at World Cup Central. At least for the Commandos.

Handing him one of the two bottles she returned with, she settled on the couch beside him. "You just like that they say your name about twenty times again. Admit it, you're searching the crowd for people dressed like you."

"A Cosmo type night?" Now if a drink could make promises, a Cosmopolitan usually promised a damn good night, if not for the both of them then at least for Jackie alone. It was one if those I want to stylishly get drunk drinks and Manelli was more than happy to deliver just that. “A Cosmo for the lady then and a martini for me.” He flashed a smile at the barkeeper and only then took his time to properly glance around the club.

Jac, of course, had been right. He loved Bijou.

The right music, the right crowd, the right drinks, the right level of exclusivity. Not one of those places where one got drunk off their ass, no, people in here had class. And a certain image to maintain. "So, at the risk of sounding painfully fuckin’ dull-", the cheeky smirk firmly planted itself on his lips and he tilted the hat a little. "Come here often, milady?"

"Dull? You? I'd never believe it." She accepted her drink from the bartender, flashing him a fangless smile as she led Dino towards the upper levels reserved exclusively for those with titles. Sipping at the red concoction, she shook her head. "Not as much as you might think. But if I'm ever in London and the mood strikes...or the company's right, I pop in."

Sliding into a velvet lined booth, she looks over at the Italian, settling. "Tell me you love it as much as I thought you would...and even if you don't, lie. Because I guarantee before the night is over you will be head over heels in love. And have the number of several Middletons."

"Then you work far too much." Oh that comment about being Lady Falsworth. Fine. She can be Lady Falsworth. Peggy’s never even wanted the stupid title anyways, and if that’s what’s got her so angry she doesn’t care. She never wanted to be a lady. Director of SHIELD? Sure. Lady Falsworth. She can live without. Unfortunately when she marries Jack - because that is going to happen - the title will become her’s.

They’ll cross that bridge when they get there.

Jacqueline shrugged. Perhaps. But she had nothing but time ahead of her and she needed some way to fill it. Work seemed the easiest way to do that. And she hardly considered most of what she did work. She loved the manor, loved taking care of it. Loved seeing that the people of Dymhurst were provided for. And she loved the Industries.

Not to mention her work with MI:13. With Joe and all of them. 

Work was probably the least stressful thing in her life. More an outlet than anything else.

While he had believed that the sarcasm and sass would hurt, he obviously had no clue that Jac would find a way to inflict pain even worse than the one he had felt before. Open mistrust. In his sincerety, his honesty-

—obviously also in his wish to make amends. To make it right again. Jack was prepared to cut her some slack but quickly learned that she obviously wasn’t able to do the same for him too.

"I know it might be too much to ask at this point, but please give me a chance here, Jackie." This time his voice sounded almost pleading. Still calm and controlled, typically Jack after all but with a touch of something else. Something Jackie probably had never heard in her father’s tone before. Despair maybe? Fear that she would shut him out for good and not even give him a chance to prove that he meant it this time? "Please."

That's not fair, Jack. How can she stay angry when you sound so sad? She had expected a good tongue lashing, but this...this was far worse. Because this made her feel guiltier than any lecture could. Maybe not about her stance on Peggy, but about how hard she was being on her father in general.

"You really want to come back to England?" It was hard to imagine. The boys were in America. SHIELD was in America. Bex was in America. The deck against England seemed fairly stacked. Yet, if he truly meant to move back...

Jaqueline enjoys karaoke nights with the rest of the team. Her favorite thing is to sing stuff by popstars like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift with Meggan. By the end of the song they’re both tend to be giggling senseless. Jaqueline swears one day she’s going to get Joe to sing something as well.

Why not it is a topic to talk about that isn’t necessarily touchy, unless you make it that way.

"I didn’t mean to intend it as implying you like it, I apologize." There’s a little sigh. It’s not her fault that Jack prefers to work away from home, in America. She would be fine if he chose to move back home. Would she follow? If he wanted her to, but ultimately she could stay and run SHIELD. She’d miss Jack terribly, but his choice to remain in America is hardly her choice, sorry you feel poorly about his choice, though.

"But that’s a lovely resume, though that isn’t what I asked."

"Yes it is. You asked what I like doing. I like running the estate. I like running the Industries. I like being Lady Falsworth." She also liked horseback riding, yelling during football matches, clubbing, and beer -- which she actually preferred to wine (she was Jack's daughter, after all). 

She might also occasionally do the hero thing.

But none of those really matter. At least not right now.

The phone clamped between shoulder and ear, he casts another glance at the TV before disappearing into the kitchen to get a beer.

"I’ll book the first flight tomorrow morning, sweetheart."

No worries, Jackie, your dad would have your back there. A slow manipulation of a worldcup via unusual dinner habits. Well, why the hell not. 

"Beginning to agree." Jack all but glares at the TV screen. Such a disaster hasn’t happened in 60 years. He knows, he’s been there.

For a split second he holds his breath, only to sigh again at yet another missed chance. “This is embarassing.”

You know...that's not a bad idea. And she's pretty sure they could get Dino's help too...provided she told him who she was going to eat ahead of time so that he could bet on the appropriate teams. Ooooh. She was going to have to text him with this. This was actually an awesome idea.

Why couldn't it be France fucking up again? Or Portugal. She'd love to see Portugal choke. Why did it have to be their boys? 

Oh. Right. Gerrard. "OMG. STOP GIVING THE BALL TO GERRARD. Ugh. I'm eating him too. We're going to do so much drinking when you get here."

"I might actually agree that football is a good enough reason to do just that." All ‘no feeding on humans’ rules aside, in certain cases human simply didn’t apply anymore.

"Ouch", he pulls a face again at the foul and sighs. Please, please let them turn that game around. A visit by the Union Jack himself might be entirely useless if they lost that one today. "That referee likes his cards a bit too much if you ask me."

"Excellent. Well then, I know what I'm doing for dinner tonight." Was she joking? Probably. Most likely. But it was a bit hard to tell over the phone. So. Should one Portugal player be found drained of all blood come morning...well...it wasn't her.

"All the refs have liked their cards a bit too much. Beginning to think most seem them as a substitute for the balls they sacrificed to FIFA."
