murphy’s law dictates that anything than can go wrong will go wrong. i didn’t understand it enough when i was watching Interstellar, but i think i get it now.
it’s almost two months since i got here, which is 6 weeks longer than planned, so you can imagine the amount of disbelief i carry with me daily. my friends call it #justalahnatingzzz, as in those circumstances that are most likely to happen to me. like, getting stuck abroad during a global pandemic.
i’d like to think i’m doing fairly well, though. we’re lucky enough to be staying at my tita’s place so accommodation isn’t really a problem. but the time difference sure is.
i usually start my day at 6 am. that would already be 10 am in the philippines, which means i’d be scrambling to get out of bed (that i share with two people) and respond to messages i missed while i was sleeping. our clients know about my current situation and they’ve been more than accommodating but it’s still absolutely embarrassing for me. i’m trying to fix my sleeping pattern though (still failing miserably at it but i swear i’m trying).
anyway. i have this crazy (and stupid, but bear with me here) theory that the things i swore i’d never do always end up happening. first it was moving to manila. second, working in an advertising agency. third, being in an LDR (this is the second time and it’s making me go cray-cray, lol). and now, circumstances are almost pushing me to do what i avoided for so long: working abroad.
well technically, i am working abroad. but i’m earning in pesos, which just makes living here a hundred times more difficult because everything is expensive as hell. i’ve done more mental maths during the past few weeks than my entire college life, tbh. conversions are hard.
the only consolation i keep clinging to is that dubai’s healthcare system is waaay better so if the worst comes to worst, maybe i have a better chance of surviving. the debt will be crippling, but as what wise ilonggos often say: ‘portante buhi.
i guess it’s what i’ll be living by until we can finally go home.
