Hi! I’m Scarlett and this is a side blog for all my writing stuff, both original and fanfic. My Ao3 is alchemistsarego
A majority of my work is Whump, that is an emphasis on physical, emotional or psychological injury and/or illness, often with comfort after the fact, that focuses on one or more Whumpee’s (A character that is receiving the hurt/comfort) that is tended to by a Caretaker and possibly inflicted by a Whumper.
As such, all fics may contain triggering content, please read all content warnings in tags and read with discretion.
All works are fictional. I do not condone nor support the referencing of real life injury/illness or tragedy as whump.
Please feel free to send any requests, just please be aware that I may not be able to get to them!

We’re so excited to reveal the cover for The Road Ahead (the road behind) by Scarlett Skyes (@alchemistsarego)! Art by the extremely talented Flore Picard.
“There’s been an accident.”
For two years, those words have haunted him, twisting in his chest as he wondered why he alone had not been in that car. The car that had left his parents dead, and Daniel as the sole guardian to three brothers with scars etched deeper than skin. For two years Daniel has been fighting to keep them together, to keep them whole, but now old memories are colliding with new accidents. This time, he might very well be the one to blame.
The Road Ahead (the road behind) will be released as an ebook on August 18, 2026. You can preorder it via our ko-fi or at your preferred ebook retailer. “Look, I know it seems counterintuitive, but, when you’ve never been free, when every decision has been made for you, when you have no idea what you’re supposed to do or why, restriction can feel like freedom. He needs these rules so he can start making safe decisions.”
“But how far do we go? What if we go too far and he won’t tell us that there’s something wrong? We could hurt him worse by trying to help…”
“Right now he’s terrified to move, he won’t get out of bed or drink water or speak without permission, we’re more likely to miss something without rules. And he deserves to feel like he’s not just flying blind, waiting for one of us to beat the shit out of him. He’s already aware that there are rules to the world, he just doesn’t know what they are and which ones are going to hurt.”
“So where do we start?”
“We start with what he needs to be doing. Bedtimes and what time to wake up in the morning, when to eat, what to eat, meds to take and when-“
“It’s not like he’s a child, and god if he wants to sleep in, shouldn’t we let him? If he wants to eat a midnight snack, doesn’t he deserve to decide that?”
“Yes. But right now he’s not sleeping in, he’s hiding in bed because he doesn’t know if it’s safe to get up. He’s not eating because he doesn’t know if he’s allowed, he’s not making any of those decisions because he can’t even exist yet without being fucking terrified. If we can get him on a routine, he can relax enough to hopefully start to trust us.”
“I know that, I know he needs some framework, but what if he takes these rules too deeply? What if they get too deep? Then we’ve just upgraded his prison instead of actually getting him out and safe.”
“We’re gonna have to be careful. That’s the only thing we can do with any of this.”

Stephanie stands in the foreground, wearing her purple costume with a bat emblem, a cape, and a yellow utility belt. Her hood and mask cover most of her face as she grips her grappling hook line, ready to launch away. Behind her, Red Hood appears tense and angry, his arms spread as he confronts her. He wears his red helmet with glowing white eyes and a brown jacket over his red bat symbol suit. The setting is a dark alley with graffiti and cracked walls under a harsh streetlight. The scene suggests Jason is frustrated at Stephanie for interrupting his investigation, while she is about to leave after dealing with the criminals.]

"What an attention seeker," the kids whispered as Tyler once again lay unconscious on the school's track. it wasn't enough that it was embarrassing, now it's on purpose, why does he even bother going to class anymore.
I absolutely love this so much! All of your art is fantastic! I hope you don't mind but I kind of wrote something for this...
Content Warning for passing out, light injuries and implied chronic illness, please read with discretion.
Attention Seeker (Word Count 2012)
The whispers were distant, even as they swirled all around him.
They were sounds more so than actual words, their meaning long since lost.
His own body was lost too, the emptiness that filled him having forced out all else. He knew that he needed to push through it, he needed to make sense of just what was happening, but it was almost nice to simply lay here and do nothing at all, exhaustion too great to ever want to fully stir again.
The words grew fuzzier, the whole world alongside them and Tyler forced himself to focus, knowing somehow that everything would be so much worse if he allowed himself to return to the darkness.
Tyler couldn’t stay here forever, no matter how tempting it was to do just that. He needed to push through the emptiness that swirled within him but when he breathed deeply, Tyler’s entire right side ached.
He tried to open his eyes but even before he fully managed it they were snapping closed once more, a thousand suns burning through him.
It was the dizziness that was worst of all and Tyler genuinely didn’t know if the world really was spinning all around him or if it was him that was spinning.
Tyler tried to return to the unfeeling darkness but it refused to claim him and Tyler was left laying right where he was, all too aware of the whispers that were still echoing even if the words still didn’t make any sense to him.
Tyler breathed, he breathed and he focused, taking stock of his body.
He… Was laying on his side.
The ground was hard, so rough against his skin it was as if a thousand razor blades had been cut into him. He had laid here before, on this ground, though why the hell Tyler would have ever thought that was a good idea, he had no clue.
Tyler tried to push himself up to his feet but his fingers barely even twitched let alone go to support his weight. His legs didn’t even bothering to move whatsoever, not until he tried to curl into himself instead.
It was then that the previously distant aches flared into outright agony, his knees protesting as he shifted them. The skin was raw, every slight brush of wind against them making brand new pain slam through him.
Tyler bit back a whine as best he could but the trembling in his body only made everything hurt so much more and now that there were quiet laughs interspersed with the whispers now, Tyler’s eyes stung almost more than his knees did.
“Did you see that?” Someone said.
“I know, right,” A laugh then, so loud it made the world spin faster. “What an attention seeker.”
Shame stirred deep in his gut and Tyler knew instantly not only where he was, but what had happened too.
Tyler was on the Track Field, and those voices were that of his classmates which meant that not only had he passed out again on the Track but he’d done so in front of them.
It wasn’t enough that it was embarrassing to have passed out in the first place but apparently he had done so on purpose just for attention as if it didn’t feel like the whole damn world was spinning all around him, his stomach protesting almost as much as his head was.
Honestly, Tyler didn’t even know why he bothered to go to class at all anymore, not if this was just going to keep happening.
The shadows looming over him parted at last and Tyler only curled more into himself, not wanting to see just how disappointed Coach was with him this time.
“Tyler?”
“I mean look at him,” One of the students chuckled. “He’s such a freak.”
“Richard, that is enough.” Coach said firmly. “Tyler, can you hear me?”
Of course he could, just like how he could still hear the whispers that were might as well have been shouts about just how ridiculous he was, wasting their times when they should be training instead.
Tyler just wanted the ground to swallow him whole but the universe had never been that nice to him so it instead forced him to stay exactly where he was.
“Tyler.”
“I’m fine.” Tyler said.
His voice was wrong even to his own ear and Tyler could feel a tear slip down his face at last.
Tyler just wanted to go home. He wanted to go home and never come back to this stupid school ever again.
“Tyler,” Coach said. “Do you know where you are right now?”
“I’m fine,” Tyler said again, forcing his voice to remain steady this time. “It’s fine.”
“Do you know where you are?”
Of course he did, just like how he knew how all this was going to go. Of course he knew how it was all going to go, he’d had this same fucking thing a thousand times over in the last few months.
“I’m fine,” Tyler said. “I didn’t faint, I, uh, tripped. My shoe lace was untied. Sorry Coach, it won’t happen again.”
Coach blinked. He shifted his gaze from Tyler’s face towards his shoes instead but Tyler shifted his legs until one shoe was hidden beneath the other, cursing himself out for his stupidity. He should have come up with a better excuse, said that it had been a rock or a simple misstep or literally anything other than something that could be disproved so easily.
Tyler tried to rise but even without standing he knew that his legs wouldn’t yet be able to actually hold his weight, not without support and he very very much did not want to have to have one of his classmates brace him against them, not when they were still sharing jokes at his expense.
Attention, they claimed it had been.
He’d slammed so hard onto the ground that his whole body ached and his knees bled but it was all just for attention.
Tyler didn’t even know how any of them had been around to see him go down in the first place, he’d been so far behind the next runner that he’d been certain that they’d left him all behind.
If he was being really honest, he would have preferred if they had left him fully behind if only to be free from all the eyes on him.
Tyler’s head pounded as he was coaxed into sitting but the moment that Coach tried to lay him back down instead, Tyler waved him away.
“I’m fine.” He said. “Sorry about all this, I’m fine, really.”
“Tyler,” Coach said. “You fainted, you need to be checked out at the infirmary.”
“I’m fine.” He repeated. “I didn’t faint, I, uh, tripped. My shoe lace was untied, sorry Coach.”
Coach blinked.
He shifted his gaze towards Tyler’s shoes but Tyler shifted his legs, hiding one shoe beneath the other as he cursed himself out for his stupidity. He should have just said it had been a rock or a simple misstep or literally anything other than something that could be disproved so easily.
Tyler tried to rise fully but he knew even without standing that his legs were still tingling too much to actually hold his weight.
The class were still whispering to one another, sharing stupid joke after stupid joke about just how ridiculous he was.
He didn’t even know how any of them had been around to see him go down in the first place, he’d been so far behind the next runner that he’d been certain that they’d left him completely.
“Tyler,” Coach said.
Tyler forced his eyes to lock onto Coach’s own, ignoring just how the whole world was still spinning.
“I’m okay.” He said. “Just tripped.”
“Tyler, you know that your guardian has to be-”
“Only when I faint.” Tyler said quickly. “Which I didn’t do, so you don’t have to do anything. I’ll be just fine.”
He shifted his elbows until they managed to support his weight, forcing himself to not wince as new dizziness slammed right into him.
Coach was kneeling now, a hand hovering behind Tyler’s back as if they expected him to immediately slam back down on the ground or something. Tyler didn’t of course, managing at last to get up onto his legs.
Tyler staggered and all at once a hand was gripping onto his elbow, keeping him upright.
He should push them away, prove once and for all that he really was fine, but his hand gripped onto them right back instead, leaning hard against them.
“Tyler,” Coach said. “You shouldn’t be moving so quickly, take some time to rest and-”
When Tyler tried to shake his head his stomach swooped, needing to squeeze his eyes shut if only to stop everything from swirling all around him.
“I’m fine.” He said faintly. “Just… Need a sec.”
Despite Tyler’s assurances, Coach coaxed him back to the ground, Tyler’s legs all but collapsing beneath him.
Tyler breathed hard, all too aware of all the eyes on him. The whispers had changed, not so jovial as somehow tight now.
“What’s going on?” One said.
“Is he… Actually sick?”
“No way,” Someone else said. “He’s faking it for attention.”
“Nah, he just didn’t want to do the run.”
“Of course he’s faking it, the asshole didn’t need to ruin it for the rest of us though.”
“Hey, it’s not like I want to do it either.”
Tyler tugged his long sleeves down, digging his nails into the fabric.
He needed to walk away, walk away and never come back again, but his stupid body still wasn’t listening to him.
“That is enough.” Coach said firmly. “Jackson, Hugo, detention at lunch time.”
“What? I didn’t do anything!”
“Coach, you can’t do that, we have football at-“
“Enough.” Coach barked. “Tyler, I need you to squeeze my hands.”
Tyler didn’t want to do this whole thing again, the ‘squeeze my hands’, the ‘do you think you can try some water, small sips’, the ‘are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital, I think you should go to the hospital’, he didn’t want to do any of it.
He was fine and even if he wasn’t, it’s not like the Doctors would find anything wrong with him this time. Everything would come back as normal, he’d be told that it’s just that he isn’t drinking enough water and maybe he’s under too much stress even though he’s literally not doing anything stressful apart from completely embarrassing himself each and every time he passed out in front of other students.
Then again, maybe Tyler really was just doing all this for the attention.
“Tyler.”
“I’m fine, Coach.” Tyler said.
Tyler stood and by some miracle his legs managed to not only support his weight but do so without any shaking whatsoever. Sure, his vision may or may not have whited out for a moment or two, but the important thing was that he hadn’t collapsed all over again.
“Just tripped.” Tyler said.
Coach eyed him.
“You tripped.” Coach said.
Tyler nodded and holy shit, nodding was a really bad idea right now.
Standing was too, his torn knees screaming the longer that they were exposed to the fresh air for.
“On your shoelace.”
Before Tyler nodded again, he glanced down to his tied laces. Looking down also was a bad idea apparently, that emptiness swiftly returning.
“Actually,” Tyler said. “I think it was more so my shoes than the laces.”
“I have warned you to have the appropriate footwear next time.” Coach said.
“They’re already on their way.” Tyler promised.
That is, new shoes would be on the way as soon as he ordered them and he would order them as soon as his marks came back as perfect and he was given the agreed upon allowance for said perfect marks.
Tyler went still.
“Coach,” He said. “Is… Is tripping over going to fail me for the semester?”
Coach looked at Tyler so strangely that Tyler snapped his mouth shut.

So I just messed up. Big time. Decided to be lazy and edit all works as one to add the tag whump since the numbers weren't adding up and they're all whump anyway.
NOW EVERY SINGLE FIC'S TAGS ARE GONE
So guess who's going to have to re tag 205 works...
I adore fantasy whump because there are so many ways that they can get hurt or sick and it doesn’t have to be so realistic. The only issue with fantasy though is that I really like hospitalisation too, which isn’t very common in fantasy and while I love healers and infirmaries and the like, it doesn’t quite hit the same as a hospital for some reason. In normal books, I really don't like comtempory settings but in writing I've been doing it a lot simply because I love oxygen masks, IV's and characters at least knowing basic first aid...
Q: Share your favourite whump creations (others or yours!)
I think that there’s a few stories I’ve made that I actually really liked how they turned out? ‘Your Name Is Tim’ is still one of my favourites and the new Podfic by Vox_la (which can be here) is literally so incredible that it’s been rotating in my brain non stop. (Tim Drake has a TBI that causes memory lapses and confusion. He is not impressed)
I’m really happy with how ‘Sparky Sparky Boom Brain’ turned out too given that not only did I write nearly 72k in like 17 days or something but I was also doing classes at the same time and working and yet I’m still really proud of it. (Tim Drake is diagnosed with Epilepsy and Mommy Issues. He is, now get this, not impressed.)
I’m also really happy with ‘I Think I Broke The Wings Of A Little Song Bird’. It was a little different to try to focus for so long on Damian but I’d like to think that it turned out pretty well. (Damian Wayne's cybernetic spine malfunctions and causes him to be paralysed from the chest down. He is not impressed. In fact, he is very much absolutely not impressed.)
Oh, and ‘Don’t Let Them See’ for Eternals, I’m still quite happy with some of that one even though it's a few years old now (Sprite uses her illusion powers to hide an injury), as well as ‘The Abyss’ for The Bad Batch it was the first story I ever actually finished and I really like how it turned out even if I like to think that I've improved my style since then! (Omega is not only unwell but she's hurt too, something that Hunter absolutely hates that he missed)
For other creators content, I’m not sure if these really count as Whump as it depends on the author if they’re okay with that, as well as some of them are far less 'dark' than others, but I found each of these specifically because of the content and they are all absolutely incredible.
I absolutely LOVE ‘Salvage’ by MuffinLance, Zuko’s development is so well done and the crew are so much fun. Every single time I see any art associated with it I literally get so excited to see the little beads in Zuko’s hair and I absolutely adore how Hakoda reacted to realising that Zuko’s dad didn’t care about him, the whole fic is literally so good. MuffinLance is currently writing a vision impaired Zuko fic too (Blindsiding Badgermoles) and it's also brilliant!
‘Casting Moonshadows’ by Moonsign is the only Harry Potter fic I’ve ever read and it has literally shaped how I see the world of HP to the point where I was talking to someone and mentioned something and did not realise that it wasn’t canon. The characters are fantastic and I really like how Remus’ childhood affected his later behaviour and beliefs and just in general how rich and amazing the writing was. It was great to see the boys slowly grow up, and it was so damn cute when Remus and Sirius started outright dating.
‘Whatever Happened To Captain Rex’ and its sequels by LongLiveTheClones are genuinely some of my favourite works ever and I really think it’s a massive part of why I’ve absolutely fallen in love with clones and it has some of the best disability representation I’ve ever seen in anything. Every single character is so fleshed out, the humour is so good as well as the development of Rex and the others.
‘The Medium Between’ by ASmallVoice has been on non stop rotation in my brain ever since it first came out and I still distinctly remember some of the scenes that happened in the last few chapters of it that literally had me needing to put down my phone in order to process what just happened, it is absolutely fantastic!
Of course, please take into account any tags for triggering content within these works and read with discretion.
I am an absolute sucker for hidden injuries, especially when the whumpee knew full well that they were hurt but chose to down play it until all at once they can’t anymore. Fevers, my beloved, you will always be famous.
I have a running joke that Tim Drake doesn’t like oxygen masks and IV’s and honestly it’s so fun every single time but I also just really like the idea of someone waking up and their very first thought is NOPE not dealing with this shit! So I love making him just immediately try to book it each time he wakes up in the infirmary or hospital. But also, connected to that, when a character who usually adamantly refuses treatment or is usually stoic and in control? Those very same characters instead clutching onto an oxygen mask, desperate for it to stay instead of go? Or burrowing into their loved ones, begging them to just make the pain stop, no matter what it takes? Fantastic.
Bridal carries are so soft, especially when the caretaker leans down and kisses them on the head. Oh! And also when multiple characters are hurt so they kind of need to do triage on themselves and work out who needs what while there’s always at least one character, if not literally all of them, who are constantly downplaying their injuries as to keep focus on the others until they inevitably pass out. Seizures and dissociation are always fun too!
I also much prefer to not write the explicit harm itself, it's just never really interested me, I much prefer focusing on recoveries or illnesses but those establishing moments where the character is finally safe again even if the reader (or myself let's be honest) knows the full extent of what they've gone through yet? Love that shit!
While I'm taking a short break from writing for a few days, I figured it might still be fun to do the community fills for Whumpuary because it's such a great idea! I will try to get to each of the questions (they are every second day for the month of Jan) and hopefully I will be able to get to one of the prompts to write for the event too.
Q: How did you find the whump community?
While I can’t quite remember exactly when, I think I first found the whump community through a mixture of Tumblr and Ao3. I distinctly remember reading a few fics again and again because the angst was so good back when I was using fanfiction.net but I didn’t know that there was a specific word for it until one day I just found the tag on Tumblr and started using it to find works before eventually realising that the things I was already writing had a name and a community.
2024 was the first time I started interacting with people though because I’m a very anxious person, but I gathered up the courage to sign up for the Batfam Big Bang 2024 and so now I'm in the discord for it with other Batfam creators and it's been absolutely amazing being part of a 'community' for the first time, especially because at the moment there's still a few whump writers that are very active on it so it's really fun to bounce ideas off of each other. I've told myself this year to try to have a little more confidence to start interacting with more people with the whump community because while I've been writing whump ever since I was thirteen, it's really fun to see what other ideas and creations people have and everyone is literally so sweet
this is a me question. i have this question for people. when you write whump. are you also writing it as like. a slash fic? like, ahh this character has been impaled but also by the end of these 2,000 words they're gonna kiss their crush?? or are you just writing them getting impaled and that's the deal. because i have written four febuwhump fics so far. and each time, out of no where, the main character is in love and now i gotta deal with that as well as being trapped under a building. you know?
I mostly write gen fic but always like focusing on different platonic relationships while dealing with whatever the whump of the day is, especially familial relationships. Moments of vulnerability in front of loved ones? YES!!!!!!! Give it to me, every single time, love that shit. I also really like building in those platonic relationships into any character growth arcs in longer stories or even in short ones too.
There has absolutely been a few fics though where I hadn't intended on ever even mentioning their partner/s or crush but then near the end they just show up or have a love confession at the crux of the fic because they realised just how much they love the other person only after someone was really sick or hurt. It's especially fun when all their friends already know full well that they are in love with each other but for some reason they themselves never realised it or never thought that they could pursue it.
Whenever there is a longer story I like going into how it might affect romantic partners / close friends if there has been a life changing injury or illness because while the character being stabbed/trapped/whatever is going through hell, their family and friends have to process their own worries and fear too. But again, I tend to do gen more so than romance so my focus is almost always on the more platonic relationships.
I love just adding the occasional Tim Drake being teased about Kon by his family because it's just so funny to me or the occasional references to Dick and Babs being on again off again and absolutely loving each other while acknowledging that they don't work as a couple for various reasons. In my Fire Emblem stuff, there's nearly always at least references to romantic relationships even when I didn't intend to (Mostly Sylvain/Felix or Sylvain/Felix/Ash) just because it feels more natural to mention romance for those characters because it's more prevalent in the source material than Batman stuff is I guess? But if it's Percy Jackson or Magnus Chase stuff? Near exclusively at the very least mentions romantic partners if not have really cute cuddles or forehead kisses because they're all so sweet with their partners it's so damn adorable that I can't resist. I don't tend to write actual sexual content though, for some reason I've never been too interested in writing it compared to the angst side.
Hi! I'd like to request something if that's okay? I'm a Dick girlie personally so I would love some angsty Dick whump if that's okay. The idea I have is not very fleshed out in my head so bare with me if this seems a bit rambly? Lol. Basically Dick gets really really hurt in a battle and ends up flat lining in a hospital or whatever and is pretty much declared dead or and everyone is distraught and sad and they are all saying their goodbyes and crying about how much they love him and then he just comes back. Like in the movies you know when the person is thought to be dead and their heart just starts up again?
I absolutely love this idea! I'll start messing around with it tomorrow, thank you!
