Hell Yes Ma'am
Raleigh Brewing Company
Belgian Blonde/ Golden
ABV: 9.2%
IBU: 30
This beer was pretty good I must say. Had a crisp, bitter first impression which quickly transitioned to a smooth, fruity aftertaste that was cool, crisp, and refreshing! My only complaint about this beer is that I didn't buy but one!
Lonerider Brewing Company
Shotgun Betty
Brewed in Raleigh NC!!!
ABV: 5.8
This is one of those interesting beers to me. It is described as a German Style Wheat Beer with a body that wont quit, but when I think of wheat beer I think of Belgium style such as blue moon. I know it wouldn't be fair to compare this beer with Blue moon so I wont, instead I will tell you all what I thought. The beer is very sour-tasting at first, not particularly in a bad way, it just isn't one of those beers you would call "full-flavored." I did enjoy what the beer had to offer, and I love the location that it is brewed in!
Don't forget that April is NC Beer month, please go out and support your local venders!
A great beer from Asheville NC! This week I chose to do highland brewing company's Gaelic ale. This was a perfect beer to me! It is not to bitter, not to sweet. It is a dark amber color. I would like to try more beers from this brewery. ABV: 5.8%
Big Oak From Red Oak Brewery ABV: 7.00% This is a great beer from red oak, a golden brown amber ale, with a slight sweetness as it goes down. At 7% this is a very great buy!;)
Natty Greene's Southern Pale Ale
Natty Greene's Pub and Brewing Company Greensboro NC.
ABV: 5.3
I have to say for a Pale Ale this beer surprised me! When I poured it I got exactly what I thought I would get, a beautiful amber colored body with a nice thick white head, however, the taste was quite a surprise. The beer goes down smooth at first but at the very end has a bitter kick, much like an I.P.A. This beer ranks high on my list of beers I have reviewed so far, I might have to try another one from this company real soon!
Carolina Pale Ale:
ABV: 5.6
Not a bad brew, a very light mild tasting beer. Yellowish tint, taste more bold than it looks like it would. Needs to be available in more places. The label features a golden lion with a purple and black background, it reminds me of ECU (East Carolina University) whos colors are purple and gold.
People's Porter by Foothills Brewing Company.
ABV: 6.25%
Body: Thick and creamy
Taste: Superb!
This beer has a very dark brown almost black body, its head is a creamy tan. The subtle aroma of the brew is a malty chocolate almost caramel smell. The taste is smooth an inviting and the after taste that follows is alil sweet alil bitter, almost a coffee with cream. Overall a very good beer, I would buy again!
Hoppyum IPA ABV: 6.3% EST Calories: 189 per bottle IBU: 70 As the name suggest hoppyum IPA is very hoppy! When you drink it, it has a very smooth start but quickly gets very sour. This is due to the hops. Look wise the color is pretty, a mid-dark brown with plenty of carbination. It wasn't my favorite beer by no means but if you like a smooth start and a lasting sour after taste or other hoppy beers than this is the beer for you!
4th Annual Jolly Skull Beer Festival Review
This past Saturday I attended the Jolly Skull beer festival at the Greenville convention center in Greenville NC.
With over 150 brewers there many of which were local, I found it to be a very well organized event. With many sponsors a few including, G-Vegas Magazine and Costal Beverage Company, the event was able to feature live music as well as food and merchandise to be sold.
-Brewery List-
Below is the current list of breweries attending.
Abita Brewing Company Alcohol Through Fermentation Angry Orchard Cider Company Atwater Block Brewery Ballast Point Brewery Beer Alchemists of Coastal Carolina Beer Army Combat Brewery Blue Moon Brewing Company Blue Point Brewing Company Boston Beer Company Brooklyn Brewery Carolina Brewery Carolina Brewing Company Coors Archive Brewing Coronado Brewing Company Deep River Brewing Company Double Barley Brewing Down East Alers Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery Evil Twin Brewing Foothills Brewing Frog Level Brewing Company Good Vibes Brew Goose Island Beer Company Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. Huske Hardware House Humboldt Brewing Company Ipswich Ale Brewery Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company Kind Beers LoneRider Brewing Company Lost Coast Brewery Miller Brewing Company Mission Brewery Mother Earth Brewing Company Natty Greene's Pub and Brewing Company Orange Blossom Pilsner Oskar Blues Brewery Pabst Brewing Company Red Brick Brewing Red Oak Brewery Shmaltz Brewing Company Shock Top Brewing Company Southampton Ales and Lagers Southern Tier Brewing Company Spoetzl Brewery Starr Hill Brewing Company Stillwater Artisanal Ales Stoudts Brewing Company SweetWater Brewing Company Tenth and Blake Beer Company The Caledonian Brewing Company Ltd Thomas Creek Brewing Company Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery Triangle Brewing Company Vermont Hard Cider Company Weyerbacher Brewing Company White Street Brewing Company Widmer Brothers Brewing Company WM Magner Ltd.
This festival was very well orchestrated. I attended on Saturday January 25th in Greenville Coliseum. With over 50 brewers there (a lot of which being local) it shaped up to be an eventful day.
I tried many types of brews, everything from microbrews to pale ales.
Tickets cost $35 dollars and are $10 if you are a DD,
If you are ever able to go I would definitely recommend the event.

A different way to expierece frostbite...
Frostbite is a NC beer brewed in the wonderful town of Winston-Salem North Carolina (near Greensboro) it is brewed by the Foothills Brewing Company.
Ok lets get down to it...
THE BEER:
Color: Dark with a hint of redness.
ABV (Alcohol By Volume) 6.5%
SRM: (Standard Reference Method) 25 Oatmeal Stout
IBU: (International Bittering Units) 74
The beer itself has a very smooth almost twangy initial taste as it hits your taste-buds, towards the end of the sip(gulp) however you can really taste the bitterness of the roasty malt and twangy citrus hops.
Overall it isn't a bad beer, If you aren't a fan of a "high gravity" brew then this beer isn't for you. If you want to try something with a little citrus kick on the tongue and a taste that will stay with you then maybe you should consider picking up this southern born brew.
