“Save Dniester”  Chisinau. 2018

The concept for this mural was developed in the framework of the open-call for a mural in the center of the city Chisinau (Moldova). With this work, I wanted to make this ecological issue of our region more visible.

Wall dimensions 2400x6500mm

The drawing was executed in scale 1:200 using black marker on paper.

Dniester River* is likely to reach a disastrous state in the next ten years. The warning comes from a group of 50 environmental NGOs in the country. The associations have expressed concern over the intention of the authorities in Kiev to raise six new hydroelectricity plants near Dniester.

*Dniester River - runs first through Ukraine and then through Moldova (from which it separates the breakaway territory of Transnistria)

This temporary installation was created during 10 days workshop, organised by Center of Contemporary Art [KSA:K] at former Mezon factory* (Chisinau). For it’s creation were used waste materials found on the factory’s garbage dump. Thereby, one of the abandoned industrial sites was transformed into one day exhibition space (MezonART - Shantier Industrial). 

*Mezon was one of the largest radio-electronic plants in Chisinau, which worked in the Soviet period for the military industry. After 1991, several unsuccessful attempts were made to redesign the plant. 

Mezon factory made an invaluable contribution to the exploration of outer space and sea depths, worked for the defense industry, producing for it ultra-precise and ultra-reliable devices.
