It had been almost two weeks since Beau had left on his mission. It had been four days since the secure communication letting the base, and her, know it had been a success and they were returning home. It had been three days since her monthly med-scan. Beau’s ship was supposed to arrive today, and Adrian was more nervous then when she was on call for a mission team’s return. Even if it was Beau’s team. Not only was she worried about his condition, but she had something they needed to discuss. She watched his team’s ship land and ran to meet it once it was safe. Her hands clasped in front of her, nervous and happy and terrified all the same.

It is beautiful and fitting, she thinks, for something so important. She squeezes his hand and looks up at him, locking into those eyes that love her so much. “Beau…I’m… I’m just going to get this out into the open.” She swallows hard and takes a deep breath. “I am pregnant.”

Beau could only stand there in silence, eyes wide. Pregnant. If this was the First Order, this would be a problem, they would be making a plan to save this baby, to make sure they didn’t become a stormtrooper, but-

But they are part of the resistance. They are safe. This is a baby that will know freedom, a baby who will be happy and unafraid.

“Pregnant..” he repeats. His free hand trail down, low on her stomach. This is where a baby is being created. He feels dizzy. “With a baby. Our baby.”

Adrian studies her love’s face. He looks so scared and in that moment her heart sinks. Her mind swims with concern that he’ll leave and then his eyes warm from fear into something brighter.

His voice is so gentle, as is his touch as he runs his hand over her stomach.

“Our baby. A new member of our little family…” She puts her hand on his and smiles up at him softly, some tears start to develop in her eyes.

“You’re going to be a father Beau.”

“Dammit.. Dammit… I have lost my foot.”

“Y-what!?” Beau looked around the dark street. He wouldn’t exactly call him and Adrian partiers, but they had spent a long time in the cafe, then for a nice walk at the park, and before they knew it, it was two AM and they were walking along the street, giggling to each other, drunk on lack of sleep.Emphasis on ‘Lack of Sleep’. How could they possibly lose Adrian’s prosthetic in the middle of a walk? “You’re…was that a joke?”

“Afraid not, look.”

Adrian finds herself clinging to Beau’s arm for balance, she’s laughing hard and holding her leg up slightly, the foot and half a broken bolt half a stride back. She’d completely forgotten how worn the bolt on this foot attachment was, of course it would break on this date. Normally she’d be pissed at her self but she’s too tired and happy.

“This is embarrassing, I’m sorry.” She tries to shift onto her own weight but clings tighter when she starts to fall. She’s blushing terribly as she looks up at him. “This is a bit of a problem for the rest of our walk, isn’t it?”

By the time MK-2913 whispered the Nurse had left Adrian bundled under blankets with a droid watching her every move. “Well for one, we need passion in the Resistance. We value it. And to be fair it was an aggressive outburst to help me. So I think its safe to say we’re winning you over.” She smiled at the trooper, and immediately started coughing again.

“I’m not going to forgive myself if I gave you this flu.” She weezed out when she caught her breath.

“I don’t really need my health at this point,” he said and shrugged a bit. “I still am not even quite certain why I’m here. Do you really think I will warm up to you? Do you want me to fight on your side?” He sighed and shook his head.

“Sorry, you’re sick and need rest. I’ll go to sleep.”

The next week the two were really the only company either had. Adrian slept much of it, and her dreams weren’t always peaceful, but they had a lot of time to talk as the two healed. Adrian was released before MK-2913, but the day came that his injury was healed enough to release him back to his cell… Adrian hoped for a better option for him.

Adrian is flooded with relief when she lays eyes on Beau, the towering man running towards her. Her nerves are washed away in that flood as he wraps his arms around her and she cups his face as if it was the most precious thing in the galaxy. His kiss felt like breathing again even as it stole her breath away. “Welcome home, Captain Zhang.” She pet his bruised cheek with her thumb. “I missed you so much.” She wants to focus on this moment, to forget about whats making her worry, to ignore the wounds she knows he has. She wants to focus on his arms around her and his lips on hers and how he looks at her. She hopes the news won’t change any of that. She knows it won’t. “Hmm.” he kisses her hand as she uses it to touch his face, and smiles sweetly. A talk. He loves talking with Adrian! He always learns so much about himself or her, or each other. If she wanted to speak like this, it must be very important. Sometimes it hurt, but he knew it would get better.

“Our spot, I think.” he took her hands in his, squeezed them gently. “I’d like to be with you there most of all.” He liked their room, but it was their special spot that was their true home.

Adrian gasps and does cough, it is the worst coughing fit yet. It sounds like she’s ripping the lining off her lungs. She hadn’t broken skin on MK-2913′s hand. “Damn it Adrian not again.” the nurse sighed, “Why do you do this every-time?”

Adrian looks away from the nurse and MK-2913, looking very much like a child whose been caught stealing cookies. “Have you even scanned yourself? Your cough sounds horrible.” The nurse touches her forehead, feeling her fever.

“I was going to when I got back to my quarte-” she starts coughing again. “I’m getting a bed and a droid. MK-2913, thank you. Please keep and eye on her a while longer.” The Nurse runs off.

He let Adrian go and rubbed his bitten hand a little, looking away. It was all good. Adrian would be given a bed, so she wouldn’t have to be locked in her quarters, and she would not die from exhaustion. He expected her to yell at him now, or say some horrible things again, since he understood this was not what she wanted, and he wasn’t looking forward to it. He just kind of curled up on himself, angling himself away from her.

He tried to not dwell on the thank you he received. He was not sure if he could recall anyone in the First Order ever thanking him for anything, other then sometimes the other troopers for some crucial assistance and personal favours. Better not dwell on things like this.

Adrian had been keeping herself going based on sheer stubbornness alone. Having been caught in her already weakened state she felt completely embrassed and small. She looks at the trooper apologetically. She got him yelled at and she bit him, a whole other level of terrible for her to feel. “I’m sorry for biting you MK-2913… I j-” She starts coughing again, covering her mouth with one hand, and bracing herself on his medical bed. How had she let herself get this bad? She was definitely not going to hear the end of this from the staff. The cough was rough and raw. She pulls her hand away when she can finally breathe. She’s shaking and weak.

He sat up and supported her as she coughed. “No need to apologize,” he said simply and patted her back lightly. “I did attack you after all. I do hope the Resistance will take it into account when doling out the punishment that I at least got you to rest through the assault.”

He supported her even as she stopped coughing. “Do not faint on me, Doctor. I’d hate to be blamed for it too.”

“I’m not going to let them punish you for me being stubborn and self neglecting. Knowing them they’re probably thankful you figured me out and held me down.” She tried to joke, but it sounded more than a little self deprecating on her part. “You’d be right Adrian. I’m sorry for threatening you MK-2913.” The nurse came a round the curtain with another medical bed and a droid. The nurse stepped over to Adrian and took her weight off of MK-2913, helping her onto the bed. The droid beeped and started analyzing the doctor turned patient. As more time passed and calm quite talking transpired between the nurse and Adrian it became more apparent that she would be staying near MK-2913 while she recovered, as the staff didn’t trust her to take it easy in her own quarters.

He listened to her with a frowned and then listened to the nurse confirming her words. What? He would not even be punished for attacking his captors?

He kept frowning through the arrangement of Adrian so close to him. Did they not even see him as a threat anymore?

Well, maybe they shouldn’t, if he’s stupid enough to help one of their own.

“I don’t think I will ever understand this place,” he whispered finally. “If you tolerate such aggressive outbursts, how do you ever hope to win the war?”

Jace hadn't been in med bay for a long, long time. But when you crash a ship and then jump off at the last second, you tend to get hurt. This was no exception. The elf was brought in on the brink of death. He'd need a very good doctor to live.

Adrian got the alert of an incoming emergency as her shift was starting. The surgery room and Bacta tank were both prepared to her specifications. When the transport finally arrived she was in the hanger with an automated gurney, two med-droids, and a nurse. She winced when she saw the patient brought off the ship. This was going to be a tough day for the both of them.

Jace was removed from his ship and laid onto the gurney very carefully. His left leg was very badly mangled with the foot almost crumpled. The shoulder on the same side was clearly dislocated and bruised, not to mention the ribs that were cracked and broken all over the place. Then finally there was the head wound, bleeding pretty badly. Somehow, he was still conscious though. “You must be the good doctor. I’d shake your hand, but I don’t want to sprain anything,” he joked, coughing out a laugh.

Adrian manages a small smile, the damage is extensive but he’s in good spirits when he should be unconscious or a screaming mess. “Well that’s promising, a good sense of humor goes a long way in the med bay. I’m Adrian Nasser, and yes I’m your doctor.” She lightly ghosts her hands over his wounds, not wanting to touch until they got him some pain management. As soon as he’s secured by the nurses they’re rushing down the halls. “Can you tell me your name and how you were injured, your stunning wit aside I need to just make sure you’re all there.”

Jace laughed a little once more. “Uh sure. My name is Jace. No last name. I was on an unsanctioned rescue mission that sort of went south. Near the end, I had jumped into the wing of the enemy ship, pulled the pilot out, threw his face into the engine, and then secured the target. Holding her and protecting her body, I jumped. The impact is what did all this,” he explained, wincing slightly at the damage. “There’s something else you should know.” The elf bit his lip nervously. “I, uh, I can’t feel my left leg.”

Adrian listened intently as she was looking over his wounds. Reckless and self sacrificing, the Resistance seemed to run on these types of people.

“That confirms that I’ll be dealing with mostly impact fractures… Jace, thank you for telling me. I’ll do what I can for you alright? I don’t need to tell you that your wounds are extensive, but I will do everything in my power for you alright?” She finally looked him in the eyes, there was a reassuring smile on her face with eyes focused and determined.

They slid into the surgery wing of the med bay. Adrian’s nurses pulling a mask and goggles onto her face, her gloves changed out for fresh ones. She called out for equipment, her voice authoritative but not harsh. “With the amount of work I have to do I’d normally put you under completely, but with as alert as you are… we could just do pain management. I will have you in a Bacta tank by the end of this regardless.”

Jace smiled and nodded. “Thank you. Thank you so much. I appreciate you being so blunt about this. Too many doctors just try to lie and say “Oh, you’re fine. Nothing to worry about,” and shit like that. Glad to know I’m dealing with a real professional,“ he said, still smiling a little. Closing his eyes for a moment, the elf sighed. He was in good hands. He could tell. She seemed to know exactly what she was doing and commanded respect. Exactly what he wanted in a doctor. “Oh. Another thing. My muscles are a bit weird. I dunno how to describe it, but just please don’t sever any of the odd glowing bits. Or let me know if you do. Or if the bone pierced one. That could explain why I can’t feel my leg,” he explained and bit his lip nervously.

“I deal in honesty with my patients. I’ll do the best I can.” She gives a slight, amazed he was so lucid through the pain. Droids rolled around the bed, bringing tools and equipment while nurses prepped Jace for surgery by cleaning the wounds.. “So that’s a no to going under then. Do you know how fast you metabolize drugs by any chance or should I have a nurse tending your pain medication at all times? Also these… ‘glowing bits’ as you call them. Are they part of your nervous system? A modification?”

Jace winced slightly as the nurses cleaned his wounds. It didn’t really hurt all that much, but it stung. All except his leg. He didn’t even notice when they cleaned that. “I have an abnormally high metabolism. Inhumanly high. In case the ears didn’t give it away, I’m not human. Well, same basic anatomical features. Except for the glowing bits. Their natural. Essentially, they increase cellular respiration rates and bring pure ATP into the muscle cells, allowing them to use a lot of energy very quickly. It lets me run faster, jump higher, and hit harder. But it’s also connected to my nervous system and can’t be repaired artificially. Takes a decade to heal too,” he explained. Slowly, he was feeling the shock of the situation fade away and he was getting tired. His lucidness wouldn’t last.

Adrian nods, mentally noting to be careful around those organs. She turns to the nurse. “I want a droid on pain medication at all times, monitoring the levels in his system along with vitals. Manage what we can.” She looks back at Jace. “We’ll do you’re leg first. You’re telling me those glowing nerves are a vital system. That’s our main concern then” Adrian is fully scrubbed and ready to operate. She carefully starts removing damaged tissue, working into the wound to see the extent of the damage. He can’t feel it but she’s still careful, still precise. She explains what she’s seeing to Jace, in case he can tell her more. But she does find the glowing nerve like organ…

Jace leaned his head back so that he didn’t have to watch her take apart his leg. It was far from comfortable, even though he really couldn’t feel it. But the idea of someone digging around inside of him wasn’t a good thought. The damage was extensive. His fibula was shattered and his tibia was cut in the half with part of the bone piercing the skin. The foot was surprisingly intact, though it almost seemed like it had forced itself back together. But the worst part was the strange glowing organs. They were cut off at the hip and the rest were hanging loosely off the muscles “Alright, give it to me straight, doc. How bad is it?” he asked, biting his lip.

Adrian winced looking at the damage, the bones would be repairable with a second set of hands (or a droid, which she had), but the glowing organs were completely severed. “Well we can repair the bones, it will be a long process but doable. Bacta will help with tissue regrowth… but the glowing nerves are severed at the hip which is likely why you can’t feel anything. I am going to reattach them, but I’m also going to call for our prosthetic and support armor specialist. If it takes as long to heal as you say, you will likely need some level of mobile aid. I’m sorry, but please know she’s very good. I myself have a prosthetic from her.” She looks Jace in the eyes as she tells him this, serious but understanding, then waits for his reaction and any objections he may have.

Jace’s eyes grew wide and some tears started to form, slowly trailing down. But he nodded. “Huh. A prosthetic for me. That sounds… Y'know, if you look at my record, it says I’ve been fighting with the Resistance since the Rebellion. And that’s not an error. I’ve been fighting for a long time. I decided long ago that this was inevitable,“ he said and tried to laugh a little through his tears. It wasn’t convincing. He was understandably upset. There was a large influx of emotions; so many things going through his head. Then his eyes did something weird. The green one turned blue and the blue one turned green. Jace sighed. "Ok. Alright. Just…do what you can,” he murmured.

Mercy

[Intro] BO-1289 had been called down to an interrogation room by a lieutenant. The trooper had been given a special assignment that only he was suited for, or so he had been told. As he rounded the corner the sounds from the interrogation room were confusing.

The lieutenant was cursing, there was a repeated sound of something being hit, and something like... laughter? Or was that sobbing?

When the doors opened, the first thing the trooper would note was blood. Blood on the lieutenant’s face, running down from under the hand clutching his nose. The back of the interrogation chair was to him, but he could tell that whoever was in the chair was presently being hit about the face in return. Flashes of long black hair flying with each impact. The sound continued regardless, not sobbing. But gurgling, choking, laughter.

Eventually the lieutenant noticed BO-1289 and straightened himself out, spitting on the prisoner before waving the trooper over beside him. “Took you long enough Trooper. I have a prisoner for you to guard. Come here.” His voice muffled and still raw with anger and pain. The source of such damage to an officer must be a truly dangerous prisoner indeed. The laughter stopped at the mention of a trooper. In that chair was a small woman, smaller than the lieutenant, smaller than most people the trooper had ever seen. Her skin dark and covered in cuts and bruises. Her dark hair buzzed at the sides with the long center part hanging in her face. Medic was written on her chest and shoulder under a very clear Rebel logo. “Meet your new duty, BO-1289.” The lieutenant sneered. @bigtrooperbeau

Beau would have barreled through his teammates if it weren’t for the fact that they had made room for him so that he wouldn’t have to. They knew he was making a bee-line for Adrian, regardless of what condition he was in, so today was no different; he had sustained a pretty nasty bruise on his right cheek, and a blaster had grazed his shoulder, but he was over-all fine.

The mission had been a success, and the fact that everyone had made it home safe brought a wave of happiness through him that he honestly couldn’t begin to describe, although he would try later that night, by lamplight in his bed with his tiny book.

Beau ran forward, and, with a burst of joy and relief from seeing his love, pulled her into a hug, kissing her deeply.

“Dr.Nassir.” he murmured, smiling against her lips. “I’ve come back.”

Droids rolled around the bed, bringing tools and equipment while nurses prepped Jace for surgery by cleaning the wounds.. “So that’s a no to going under then. Do you know how fast you metabolize drugs by any chance or should I have a nurse tending your pain medication at all times? Also these… ‘glowing bits’ as you call them. Are they part of your nervous system? A modification?”

Jace winced slightly as the nurses cleaned his wounds. It didn’t really hurt all that much, but it stung. All except his leg. He didn’t even notice when they cleaned that. “I have an abnormally high metabolism. Inhumanly high. In case the ears didn’t give it away, I’m not human. Well, same basic anatomical features. Except for the glowing bits. Their natural. Essentially, they increase cellular respiration rates and bring pure ATP into the muscle cells, allowing them to use a lot of energy very quickly. It lets me run faster, jump higher, and hit harder. But it’s also connected to my nervous system and can’t be repaired artificially. Takes a decade to heal too,” he explained. Slowly, he was feeling the shock of the situation fade away and he was getting tired. His lucidness wouldn’t last.

Adrian nods, mentally noting to be careful around those organs. She turns to the nurse. “I want a droid on pain medication at all times, monitoring the levels in his system along with vitals. Manage what we can.” She looks back at Jace. “We’ll do you’re leg first. You’re telling me those glowing nerves are a vital system. That’s our main concern then” Adrian is fully scrubbed and ready to operate. She carefully starts removing damaged tissue, working into the wound to see the extent of the damage. He can’t feel it but she’s still careful, still precise. She explains what she’s seeing to Jace, in case he can tell her more. But she does find the glowing nerve like organ…

Jace leaned his head back so that he didn’t have to watch her take apart his leg. It was far from comfortable, even though he really couldn’t feel it. But the idea of someone digging around inside of him wasn’t a good thought. The damage was extensive. His fibula was shattered and his tibia was cut in the half with part of the bone piercing the skin. The foot was surprisingly intact, though it almost seemed like it had forced itself back together. But the worst part was the strange glowing organs. They were cut off at the hip and the rest were hanging loosely off the muscles “Alright, give it to me straight, doc. How bad is it?” he asked, biting his lip.

Adrian winced looking at the damage, the bones would be repairable with a second set of hands (or a droid, which she had), but the glowing organs were completely severed. “Well we can repair the bones, it will be a long process but doable. Bacta will help with tissue regrowth... but the glowing nerves are severed at the hip which is likely why you can’t feel anything. I am going to reattach them, but I’m also going to call for our prosthetic and support armor specialist. If it takes as long to heal as you say, you will likely need some level of mobile aid. I’m sorry, but please know she’s very good. I myself have a prosthetic from her.” She looks Jace in the eyes as she tells him this, serious but understanding, then waits for his reaction and any objections he may have.

Adrian wanted to check on her patient herself, she didn’t need the staff or droids to do such a basic task for her. No matter that she was burning up and breathing hard. She pulls the curtains around MK’s medical bed only to find him sitting on the edge of it.“You’re supposed to be relaxing.” She leans heavily on the rail of the medical bed, her eyes hazy.@behindthetroopermask

Adrian gasps and does cough, it is the worst coughing fit yet. It sounds like she’s ripping the lining off her lungs. She hadn’t broken skin on MK-2913′s hand. “Damn it Adrian not again.” the nurse sighed, “Why do you do this every-time?”

Adrian looks away from the nurse and MK-2913, looking very much like a child whose been caught stealing cookies. “Have you even scanned yourself? Your cough sounds horrible.” The nurse touches her forehead, feeling her fever.

“I was going to when I got back to my quarte-” she starts coughing again. “I’m getting a bed and a droid. MK-2913, thank you. Please keep and eye on her a while longer.” The Nurse runs off.

He let Adrian go and rubbed his bitten hand a little, looking away. It was all good. Adrian would be given a bed, so she wouldn’t have to be locked in her quarters, and she would not die from exhaustion. He expected her to yell at him now, or say some horrible things again, since he understood this was not what she wanted, and he wasn’t looking forward to it. He just kind of curled up on himself, angling himself away from her.

He tried to not dwell on the thank you he received. He was not sure if he could recall anyone in the First Order ever thanking him for anything, other then sometimes the other troopers for some crucial assistance and personal favours. Better not dwell on things like this.

Adrian had been keeping herself going based on sheer stubbornness alone. Having been caught in her already weakened state she felt completely embrassed and small. She looks at the trooper apologetically. She got him yelled at and she bit him, a whole other level of terrible for her to feel. “I’m sorry for biting you MK-2913… I j-” She starts coughing again, covering her mouth with one hand, and bracing herself on his medical bed. How had she let herself get this bad? She was definitely not going to hear the end of this from the staff. The cough was rough and raw. She pulls her hand away when she can finally breathe. She’s shaking and weak.

He sat up and supported her as she coughed. “No need to apologize,” he said simply and patted her back lightly. “I did attack you after all. I do hope the Resistance will take it into account when doling out the punishment that I at least got you to rest through the assault.”

He supported her even as she stopped coughing. “Do not faint on me, Doctor. I’d hate to be blamed for it too.”

“I’m not going to let them punish you for me being stubborn and self neglecting. Knowing them they’re probably thankful you figured me out and held me down.” She tried to joke, but it sounded more than a little self deprecating on her part. “You’d be right Adrian. I’m sorry for threatening you MK-2913.” The nurse came a round the curtain with another medical bed and a droid. The nurse stepped over to Adrian and took her weight off of MK-2913, helping her onto the bed. The droid beeped and started analyzing the doctor turned patient. As more time passed and calm quite talking transpired between the nurse and Adrian it became more apparent that she would be staying near MK-2913 while she recovered, as the staff didn’t trust her to take it easy in her own quarters.
