It took him more than an hour to cut the paper snowflakes. Ethan didn’t realise they would be this complicated, it was paper for god’s sake, but here he was burning midnight oil to get these done before the sun rose. The night started off with ten sheets of crisp white paper, and by the time sleep took over, he had cut six successful flakes, the others…well an attempt was made. He woke up feeling groggy but somewhat accomplished. Leaving his apartment in more of mess than usual, he rushed off to work, feeling excited for once.Â
He’d gotten the idea to liven up the record store when he came across some old decorations stored in the back room a few days ago. Ethan hadn’t noticed them before, mostly likely because never cleaned back there. It wasn’t a lie, he had avoided cleaning at every situation that arose, but finding himself rostered on the slowest day, with a stern note saying he needed to do it, there weren’t any excuses left. It was a lucky find and with Christmas around the corner, stores already went to town with decorations, so why shouldn’t he give this shot? The plan was in motion and Ethan was ready to reap the rewards. Â
“Oh hell.” Was his response when he stood back to admire his handiwork. The store window, once bare, was now home to an assortment of baubles, crooked paper snowflakes, one Santa holding up a sign that said Have a Groovy Christmas, and the explosion of colourful tinsel just added to the chaoticness of it all. What started off as good thought, ended with him hanging his head in shame. Ethan was sure a three year old could decorate better than him, hands tied and eyes closed. He had half a though to rip it all apart and pretend it never happened but catching a figure move in his peripheral vision, told him it was too late for such wishes. “Please tell me it doesn’t look bad. Lie if you must.”Â
Christmas undoubtedly used to be Alessandra’s favorite holiday. The decorations, the food, and her family in one place. Her home life had never been your typical image of parents with their children however. Her mother only came around on some days, preferring to spend the holidays with a new boyfriend somewhere even warmer than Cuba. Yet her father always managed to make Christmas a special time. When they were still living in Cuba, they’d spent it with her grandparents and lots of cousins from all over the country and when they moved to America, it became a smaller affair.Â
Since her sister passed away, however, there wasn’t much to put her into the mood for Christmas. There would be a dinner but it couldn’t be compared to what they used to have. Caterina would still be dead. So, Alessa occupied her mind with other things. Decorations and music for her club would be enough to keep her busy until Christmas would be over again and then New Year's Eve would be the busiest of nights for her. Thankfully.
Capsule Records was one of her favorite places to be whenever the blonde needed a moment to herself; to keep her thoughts out of her head for a change. Ethan wasn’t a stranger because of how many hours she’d spent in his shop and when he spoke to her, Alessa was pulled out of her thoughts and back into the present,  “It actually looks good.” She smiled at him, taking a few steps closer to the window to inspect his work,  “Not going to lie.. when you said you were cutting the snowflakes out yourself, I didn’t think it would turn out this well.” Her smile was now replaced by a grin,  “All jokes aside, this is amazing. I wish Legacy had windows I could decorate.”
