So I was originally going to wait till I was caught up in my rewatch liveblog to talk about the finale but I am taking far to long and I want to get all my thoughts out right now then I’ll be more in depth when I talk about them in the finale!
So without further ado, let’s get started!
Also…
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
Going to be completely real with you all, not since Steven Universe have I felt this emotionally impacted by a tv series I’ve watched literally two weeks after I initially saw it and when I rewatched it last Friday. Like I’ve teared up over movies before but on my rewatch of the episode on YouTube, I broke down so many times.
I’m honestly surprised with myself though cause I was worried that because I got into the show fairly late that the emotional impact wouldn’t have hit me that hard.
BOY WAS I WRONG
I don’t even know where to begin. I guess the biggest thing which is..
1.
HOLY SHIT JAX ABSTRACTED!
I always felt like Jax was going to abstract, but I also thought they might fake it out—like she’d come back or the trailer was misleading. So when it actually happened, it threw me off, especially since it was offscreen.
But thinking about it more, it makes sense. The show had been building to it, especially with that moment where she was already starting to abstract before Pomni stopped it.
What really makes it hit is how sudden it is—the one moment Pomni looks away, and Jax is just gone. No buildup, no goodbye. That’s what makes it feel real. And knowing Gooseworx confirmed that was intentional makes it land even more

Caine is alive! I KNEW he wasn’t gone for good.
When I first watched Episode 8, I was upset he got accidentally deleted, but I also loved how tragic it was. It’s just bad timing and miscommunication—he genuinely thinks he’s helping, but over the series you can see him losing control, so him getting deleted mid-spiral with no resolution hits harder. It also would’ve felt weird to build all that up and not follow through in the finale, which is why I never fully believed he was gone.
I love the void sequence and how much it says with barely any dialogue. Caine freeing the blue AI and making himself less powerful is such a strong moment, and the fact that the first being he hurt is the first one he apologises to just hits (especially with the “I’m sorry, little brother” line in the Spanish dub). And when he reaches the exit door, he could’ve left—but chooses to stay and make things right, which really feels like the payoff to his arc. The confirmation that the moon genuinely loved him also just adds to that, because it shows he actually is capable of being loved.
And honestly, I just love that he’s part of the group now. He’s finally learned to listen instead of just trying to manage everything, and he actually feels like part of the family, which is just really sweet.
I also love that it’s canon that Caine and Gangle bonded over drawing—it’s just such a sweet detail, and it makes all the fanart of them drawing together feel even more real now
And speaking of Gangle…

Abstragedy is cannon! I repeat, ABSTRAGEDY IS CANNON
I’m so happy that they’re official! Zooble even got thier wish granted of wanting the ability to have sex!! I’m so happy for them yay ❤️❤️
Side note, I was getting so worried in preparation for this finale cause people kept theorizing that something bad was going to happen (specifically to Zooble who’s my favorite character) . It didn’t help that neither Zooble or Gangle spoke in the trailer which freaked me out even more.
4.
Ribbit and Kaufmo 💔💔💔
I love that we finally got to meet them. I loved their friendship with Jax, and it was so sad seeing it fall apart because that was genuinely tragic. It also makes me sad because it feels like one of the few times Jax really had something genuine before everything started falling apart. It also makes their breakup hurt even more, because the finale shows just how much of Jax’s behavior was already shaped by everything she went through at home. And in the finale, it really stood out to me how their friendship wasn’t just funny or cute—it actually mattered to Jax in a way that makes the breakup hit so much harder.
I also love how the fandom correctly guessed that Kaufmo was just a chill guy, because that was so true. Also, it’s still so funny to me that his name is literally just Doug. He looks like a Doug. 😂
Jax’s backstory
Ok right off the bat can I just say that I am so happy that the hit & run theory was 100% wrong. Normally I’m not against fan theories cause thier all in good fun and not hurting anyone but for some reason since ep7 came out and people kept saying ‘oh Jax hit Gangle with her car’ or ‘oh she hit a little girl’ it just really rubbed me the wrong way and for a while I couldn’t find the words to why I took issue with it But now with the finale out I can finally articulate why.
Basically I didn’t like this theory because so many people immediately jumped to it and treated it like it explained everything—like her panic attack in Episode 7 had to be because she hit someone, and even her feminine-looking bedroom got tied into that. But the more you think about it, the less it actually makes sense. If that were true, Jax and Gangle would remember it, since Gooseworx confirmed they remember their lives, just not their names. It just feels like people went straight for the most extreme answer instead of what the show was actually building toward.
Especially when there was already a more grounded reading there—that Jax is a closeted trans woman—which the show had been hinting at through her feminine bedroom and those quieter moments where she deflects or shuts down. But people mostly brushed that off. And honestly, it’s the same reason I hated that Episode 8 theory about Pomni and the gummy gators being a metaphor for her getting attacked by a gang—it just feels dark for the sake of being dark and doesn’t really add anything beyond shock value.
Thinking about the finale and Jax’s backstory, the reveal about her parents—especially her mom—really recontextualizes a lot. She was basically given no way to exist without being “wrong.” When she was emotional, she was “too feminine,” but when she got angry, she was “too much like her dad.” There was no version of herself that was acceptable, which really makes it feel like she was set up to fail from the start.
And it makes that earlier moment in episode 5 hit harder too, when Ragatha was talking about her experience with her own mother and Jax had this really sad look. It felt small at the time, but looking back, it’s clear that struck something deeper.
What makes it worse is the way her mom responds when Jax opens up. It’s heavily implied Jax trusted her with something really personal—likely about how she sees herself—and instead of being supported, she gets laughed at, torn down, and then suddenly comforted right after. That kind of switch from cruelty to affection is just straight-up emotional abuse, and it really explains a lot about how Jax acts and why she struggles the way she does. It also makes her sarcasm and hostility feel less like she’s just being mean and more like she learned to keep people away before they could hurt her first
The “Isn’t She Lovely” scene really hits me because it feels like the girl Jax could’ve been if she’d been allowed to exist without being torn apart for who she was. It’s not just sad, it feels like this glimpse of a version of her that was always there, but never really got the chance to fully grow because of everything her mom put her through. That’s what makes it so painful, because it isn’t just showing what Jax lost, it’s showing the potential of who she could’ve been
The Reveal
I really believed the circus members were just brain-scan clones of their human selves, especially after episode 8 when we saw the brain scans on the computer. I would’ve liked to learn more about C&A, but the brain scan reveal in the finale still worked for me because it confirmed the main idea without overexplaining everything.
That also fits with the others too, like Pomni and Zooble being urban explorers, Jax putting it on while living in the abandoned building when he was homeless, and Ragatha being a real estate agent trying to sell the place. The only one I’m still not totally sure about is Gangle, since she was in a car accident and got injured. But overall, I’m okay that it wasn’t spelled out directly, because The Amazing Digital Circus has always felt more character-driven than story-driven to me. I cared more about the characters and their relationships anyway, so I was mostly just hoping to see things like Gangle and Zooble getting together, Caine getting redeemed, and learning more about Jax. All of that was present in the finale, so I ended up being pretty satisfied overall.
I really loved the presentation at the end where Caine showed the cast how their human selves were doing, because it gave them so much closure. Knowing that Abigail was finally able to open up and make friends, that Suzy cut ties with her mom, that Zoey made her webcomic, and that Riley opened a gay bar was so satisfying. I also loved that Grant and Destiny were still happily married, and getting full confirmation of girl dad Kinger was amazing. It made the finale feel way more complete, because seeing their human lives gave everything else so much more weight.
I’m especially happy that Leeroy ended up okay too, even if his story still feels tragic. It’s nice knowing she got a stable job and goes to Riley’s bar regularly, because it means there was still hope for him. At the same time, it makes Jax’s story even sadder, since she abstracted without knowing her human self was doing okay. For all she knew, he was still homeless and running from the law, and that’s honestly so tragic. Also, I was completely thrown by her human name reveal, because I was expecting something like Felix, not Leeroy. That name hit me like a freight train, because all I could think of was the main villain from that one direct-to-DVD Lilo & Stitch movie
Gangle’s complicated feelings
I really love how Gangle is allowed to feel so complicated about Jax’s abstraction. Jax has tormented her basically since day one, so I don’t think she was wrong at all for not crying when she abstracted. She has every right to feel angry, drained, and honestly kind of numb about it.
What I love even more is the later scene near the end where Gangle finally starts to break down, because it doesn’t feel like she suddenly changed how she feels about Jax. It feels more like she had been holding all of that hurt in for a long time, and the breakdown is just everything finally coming out at once. Zooble validating her feelings also makes it hit harder, because it shows Gangle doesn’t have to pretend she’s grieving someone who made her life miserable
Ragatha and Pomni’s talk
Oh my gosh, this scene hit so hard. I feel terrible for Ragatha, especially because she had to keep that promise from Jax, which ended up leading to her abstraction. None of it was really her fault—she was just trying to keep everyone together and make everyone get along because she didn’t want to lose any more friends.
That hug between Pomni and Ragatha was so beautiful. I cried watching it during the YouTube premiere, and the fact that Pomni is touch-averse but still gave Ragatha such a tight, loving hug made it even more special. The camera spinning around them while they held each other was so sweet.
I wasn’t even a big JesterDoll shipper before, but that hug and the long eye contact after was so sapphic. And with Gooseworx confirming Ragatha is a lesbian, the whole moment feels even more meaningful. Whether you read it as platonic or romantic, I definitely ship it.
Minor criticisms
If I had any criticisms of the finale, it’d mostly be that the show could’ve used a few more episodes to flesh out certain characters and ideas.
I got really attached to Kinger, especially after the reveal about his wife, so I wished he had gotten a bigger role after all the hints that he was a programmer. He ends up getting more focus in episode 8 and the beginning of the finale, but after that he mostly fades into the background.
It also made me sad that nobody clearly told Caine his deletion was an accident. Even if it was probably mentioned offscreen, I still think it should’ve been addressed more directly
Overall thoughts
Overall, I just adored this finale. I loved that it wasn’t as dark as I expected, because Gooseworx’s vision for The Amazing Digital Circus has always felt character-driven and emotional.
I had this wild theory that Jax would go completely crazy, try to reshape the circus, get thrown into the void, and then abstract. I’m glad they didn’t do that, because it would’ve felt really jarring.
It would’ve also been a weird shift away from the character-focused storytelling the show is known for. That’s part of why I was fine with the C&A stuff taking a backseat, since it was never the part of the plot I cared about most anyway.
I just really love that Gooseworx stayed true to her vision for where the show wanted to go, because that’s what made the finale work so well for me
