It was midnight, dark, stepping out of the theatre as a wannabe ghostface fanatic jumped at me. “What’s your favourite scary movie?” He asked.

I laughed. “Your mom.”

He growled, lunging at me. His plastic knife hit my neck, the cheap Halloween costume less effective than he hoped. The position left him open for me to twist his arm and spin him around to pin it behind his back. I kicked the back of his knees, toppling him to the floor in front of the theatre doors. “what’s your favourite scary move” I ask. He sobs. I win. Everyone clapped. My boyfriend kisses me and the theatre employees are crying.
