Story: Before I begin work on any of the items, I try to learn as much as possible about their symbolism, history, and cultural reasoning behind their original inception. The story of Atlantis Power Ring has captured the attention of many people for a very long time now. In part, it remains a mystery. The symbol so simple in form has so much to offer. First, is the fallen cross, which was copied from the famous Via Delorosa street in Old Jerusalem. The story tells us that Jesus, while carrying His cross to the Golgotha, fell the first time, and being shouted at, was able to get up and continue his journey. This is very symbolic to many believers in that they ought to continue their ways despite the hardships for such is their fate. The memorable event is honoured with a fresco on ancient Armenian church called Santa Maria De la Spasm and numbered as 3rd (III) station, which is also a place where Jesus and His mother met that day. Second, is the Russian Orthodox cross, which, in many ways, is different from the Catholic one. First, it has a small crossbar at the top, which is said to symbolize the tabled with the name of Jesus, secured after He rose to Heaven. The tilted crossbar at the bottom, suggests that the person who accepted Him as his God, was taken to Heaven as well, but those who deny Him, are sent to Hell. Price: $180 CAN The story: This ring depicts one of the oldest orthodox crosses - the cross of St. Nino, which is a cross of Christians from Georgia. The original cross was made out of grape vines and secured by the hair of St. Nino, and brought to Georgia at the end of 400's, giving the rise to Christianity on the continent. Grapes made out of amber and vines from cedar symbolize the old connection between culture and religion. The natural colour of the antler contrasting with amber provides a true sensation of a handmade artifact. This ring is made to complement the bracelet I made earlier. It is interesting to note that the smallest parts of this ring required more time and attention compared to other items I have had made in the past. Price: $240CAN Story: This necklace is inspired by a church of St. Lazarus in Suzdal, Russia. Built in 1617, this curch belonged to a monastery, hence the black set of domes. Lazarus, the final sign of the coming of Messiah, was resurrected by Jesus 4 days after his, Lazarus, death. The event is mentioned in the Gospel of John, Ch.11. The necklace presents 4 beads rising from a pendant to the first set of two-sided hand carved beads of crosses, followed by another 11 beads to the second set of crosses. These numbers are chosen to highlight the significance of the resurrection and its history. The four black beads and the pendant signify the 5 domes of the church, while the connecting bead, between the pendant and the necklace, bear letter "Л" in old-Cyrillic (Russian "L") for Lazarus. Also, five domes in Russian churches stand for Jesus (the central dome) and four of evangelists. Orthodox Christians believe that after the resurrection, Lazarus traveled to Cyprus and became there a bishop of Kition (Larnaka) where is believed to have lived for 30 years to his death. I framed it into a wooden frame and secured it in place by an anchor made out of deer's antler. Some of you may know that setting stones or other solid artifacts in the wood is a major challenge. This pendant is held by braided leather cords and seats at about 49cm long.
