Here is the presentation i am making in to a booklet for my final presentation.
Brief and solution.
My problem:
Whenever I put my sleeve down while wearing a watch, my sleeve always gets caught. This makes my arm cold and makes me feel uncomfortable.
Solution:
I will design a watch for the future that goes under your skin to allow a sleeve to go smoothly over the top of it.
After researching the cuttlefish I discovered its unique skin cells that have a sack of pigment chromotorphes (colour) surrounded by muscles. The fish can control the contraction and relaxation of the muscles controlling each of these individual chromotorphes. Opening and closing each of these sacks allows different levels of pigment (different colours) to emerge. This allows the fish to change its colour and texture to make different patters to allow it to camouflage and communicate with other fish.
I plan to use this call structure to design a genetically adapting watch that runs off neurons. These are sent from the brain alike the fish. Similar to old fashion watches it will have a less accurate more estimated time that is natural and free flowing rather than precise and machine like.
Here are the images of people having the watch on. It looks slightly different in the different lighting but overall it has the same design. I really like the way it has turned out and i think it successfully solves my problem and has a great design to it.
Here are my final models of my watch. You can see in the clear model the different layers and where the small sacks are that would hold the colour.
Here is my simulation model that demonstrate how each cell works. By using your hand as the muscle and squeezing the sack of colour (balloon), you can see the colour push upwards.

Here is a 3D model of my wrist. I plan to print this in the up printer and put my model watch into it for the final presentation.
Here are some images of the fish i researched for my idea. It is able to change its colour and skin texture using small muscles surrounding each skin cell.

Here is a lazer cut mock up of the layers of my overall model. This model is blown up to show the details of the model.
These are a few iterations at scale and layout of the cells. The model on the right is my overall scale and cell structure but in my final will be a multi material print.
This is my first practice at simulation how each cell works. Unfortunately this model did not work because when i sealed it the air had no place to go so the water did not push out into the top acrylic piece.
Here i started looking at the different layouts of the cells to allow me to successfully get the shape of my watch.
To further develop my design of the watch i need to look at the styles of watches that appeal to me. This will allow me to have an image to help me in the aesthetic design of my watch.
This is a model of the simulator i will make for my presentation. This shows how each cell works by the person squeezing the balloon which will squeeze coloured water into the clear dish at the top.
Here are the models of the basis of my design. They are based off the skin cells of the cuttle fish and have a sack of colour surrounded by six muscles per sack.
